- What you need to know to remove your turbos from your RB26dett with your engine still inside the car of your Nissan Skyline GTR R32 R33, R34 and Stagea 260rs The Nissan factory service manual says that the engine needs to be removed in order to remove the turbos. I will show just how to remove the turbos with the rb26dett still inside the car. I will go over what tools you need to remove the twin turbos from the rb26dett engine. You will watch me figure things out while I go. I wish I would have had a better understanding of what tools I needed before I started. If you have all the tools from the tools list below I would think this to be a 3 to 4 hour job to remove both turbos from the Nissan Skyline GTR rb26dett. Good luck and give me some comments on what you think below!

“Start from the top work your way down just like with a beautiful woman.” 👊🏻🙌🏻😂
I did this once back in 2004 on a friend’s R32 GTR that had one blown turbo and the other was on its way out. Now I am about to do this on my R33 GTR. This was a great refresher. Thanks!
Glad to hear this older video is still helping the GTR boys. Good luck to you and thanks for the comment.
I don’t even have a skyline and I’m just watching this 😂😂😂. Great content and instructions!
Thanks for the positive words. You should get yourself a Skyline someday.
Having the right tools is a must to remove your twin turbos. I hope this video helps you guys! I tried to capture what I believe you guys needed to see to have the confidence to do the job! Leave a comment down below with some feed back! Thanks for watching!
Pretty cool how you removed the turbo with the manifold still attached to it. Most other videos, they would try to remove it separately. Learning something new today.
Thanks, I was instructed by Erik @upgarage USA to do it that way! I cant take all the credit I was just sharing the info with the community.
Great video. This job would’ve taken me an eternity without it. Thanks!
You're welcome! Thanks for the channel support. Glad you are able to get the satisfaction of doing the job yourself! Nice work.💪
You're a better man than me. Taking the twins off was a pain with the motor out of the car. I cannot imagine taking them out with the motor in the car.
It was challenging for sure, but it can easily be done in about 3 hours with the engine in the car. Thanks for watching and have fun with your GTR.
Great job man. So many parts that can leak it is scary to think doing this more than once. I finally see why so many go single turbo route. I will keep my twins and this vid helps immensely. Thanks.
That's nice to hear. Glad this video will help you. And yes it is crazy how many water and oil lines there are with the twins. Banjo bolts and copper washers everywhere, which could all leak at some point.
Wow! I've been waiting for this kind of video about removing the turbos. Other youtuber video was good but this one was very detailed for dummies like me. Keep it coming. Good Job Bro!
Nice video. In the same boat where if it's a bolt on/bolt off job, I'm most likely gonna attempt it.
Yeah considering how old and popular these cars are, there's not a lot of walk-through video guides that are detailed. Would like to see a clutch job replacement, but that's probably a 2 man job with hoists and other equipment needed.
Glad you liked the video. I would love to due a clutch. But my stock clutch melted on the dyno last summer. I had UP Garage install a ATC Carbon Clutch for me!
Thanks!!! Helped my buddy with his turbo removal and reinstall with new turbos on his R32 awhile back in Oki but getting ready to do my own turbo swap on my R33 this winter in GE and this is deff gonna help. Need to buy another set of crows feet’s though bcuz my other are in my Z back in the states 😑. Thanks for the help in advance!
No problem, I am glad the video helped. Good luck with your project, I hope it turns out the way you hope!
I have a broken engine mount and I need to remove the front turbo to gain access to replace it. Thanks for the video, very detailed info. I'm using the video with the shop manual to get the front turbo removed.
That is awesome that you found this video helpful. That was exactly what I was trying to accomplish when spending all the time to make it in high detail. To help the GTR community and people just like you. That Engine mount broke on my car when it was on the dyno testing new turbos. It was old and could not handle 470WHP. I replaced it as well and when I did quarter mile racing the drivers side mount under the intake plenium broke as well. Good luck with your project, I hope it all goes smoothly for you. Thanks for watching.
@@JDMRightHandDrive thanks for the reply! I have a broken transmission mount as well as the left side engine mount being broken. Depending on how hard it is to change the drivers side mount I've been thinking maybe I should do that one as well. How hard was it on that side, did you need to remove the intake?
I might just watch this a few more times before I try it on my gtr
This was not to hard of a job. You can easily do it with the right tools! Go for it!
Absolutely love the video! Very detailed and I love the tips you give about the pains you had. This is so helpful and incredibly appreciated. Thanks for filming! I’m sharing this on IG!
Thanks for spreading the word on IG, it's much appreciated!
It's funny I had a way harder time loosening the silver bracket and oil return line from the bottom of the first turbo, but once I did that I was able to drop the turbo completely off the manifold and getting to the manifold bolts were really easy. Glad to see I wasn't the only one who struggled with the back turbo - the stupid water line kept catching on it. With the wrench I hate how 3 of the nuts you could only turn a tiny bit and then you had to reset the wrench. Great video, the tips on the first turbo helped.
Glad it help you out. I am still struggling to attach the Tomei manifolds to the new turbos and HKS elbows. The OEM stuff fits together so much easier. I have spent a couple days figuring it out.
@@JDMRightHandDrive Yeah I realized if I was going to go with upgraded twins, I would have wanted the tomei or r34 gtr elbows too and it would have been difficult since I had to bend a few hard lines in the first place. But I'm switching to big single so that cleans up a lot of the hot side of the engine.
Thanks for taking the time to make this vid.
You bet, hope it helped you do your project a little easier!
Great Video! After 3 years of being down because of a head issue I finally got the confidence to work on it myself and your video is the best. I now have even more confidence to do the job myself. Everything is off except for the turbo’s, lines, and brackets…I can do this lol! Thanks killa!
That is so awesome to hear. I am glad that my video helped you out. I really tried to put as much attention to detail into how to remove the turbos it as possible, just for people liked you to get that confidence to do it yourself and save the money of paying a shop! I know you can do it, turbo removal is not really all that hard of of job as you read on the internet forums! Stay strong! 💪💪😀
thanks for doing this video. it helps me big time, to change my exhaust manifold gasket. watched it like 20 times to do the same action like you do in the video. best GTR turbo remove video here.
Nice, thanks for posting this. I appreciate the detail in it, surely will save me time in future removing mine and installing larger twins. It reminds me a lot of working on the twin turbo's on my FD RX-7. Real PITA. I can see why some prefer the RB25NEO's with single turbo manifold on them. But the twins are 90s JDM cool.
I will be doing this within the next couple of days so thank you for doing this and giving me the info that I need before hand!
Hell yeah, no problem. Good luck on your project!
FYI, a couple of the tool links you posted aren’t correct. Sometimes with Amazon, you have to be fully on the end parts page and then refresh one more time before you get the correct link. I always end up copying and pasting into a new tab to test them to make sure they’re right before posting. Flex extension and 3/8 wobble appear to be wrong. Also, loosen up the black canister (power steering maybe) bracket on the strut tower to be able to move that out of the way without disconnecting for a bit more clearance to pull the turbos away from the engine. Would save from scratching the valve cover and scraping knuckles. 👍
Thanks for the heads up on the links, I fixed those. Great idea on the power steering fluid reservoir. I will loosen it for the turbo install job. I am going to remove the valve covers and get them powder coated as soon as turbo install is complete. I cant decide the the color for the valve covers! Glad you like the video! Thanks man.
Wow this is awesome info even though I have a Rb25det it’s still inspirational and it has given me a chance of doing my own turbo
You should have an easier time with that single turbo set up. I think Sammit had a good video of turbo swap on his R33.4 RB25.
Sorry your way more detailed the sammit will ever be besides that guy is arrogant
Great video, I'm about to swap mine out and this video is an awesome explanation of what to do. Where did you get the rb26 manual from?
Look at my newest video on my channel in the description at the bottom. The is a link you can click and download it. Hope that helps and thank for watching my channel. Glad my video help give you the confidence to get it done yourself! Good luck to you!
Bro!! You’ve done well👍 that’s no Job for a novice mechanic.
Thanks man, I appreciate that. I cant wait to film the new turbo install with the Tomei Cast Manifolds and HKS cast turbo elbows!
Great video man, love the step by step! Might have to call you for help when I eventually change my headers and elbows haha
No problem, I try to show as much detail as possible. Hopefully after watching everyone can be equipped to do it themselves. And if you get stuck, I could come give you a hand.
My son is working on his 93 r32 skyline turbos now
That is awesome, I hope that he finds this video helpful.
Yes I'm ordering wobble sockets for him
Amazing video great job. Working on my 26 also 👌🏼
Thanks glad you like the video. Good luck with your RB they are money pits when they have issues!
I will be doing this in a couple weeks cuz my manifold just started leaking so it's gonna be fun 😅
Sorry to hear your manifold has an exhaust leak. Its a big job to get them out, but you can definitely do it. Glad my video was helpful to you. Have fun with your RB.
Hey dude I did this job last month and that water line you struggled with is easier to get off if you just take the little circlip off and take the actuator bar off at the lever end it can then be moved up enough to get access to the water tube
I plan on swapping my RB25NA to an RB26DETT and have it changed to a single turbo in my R33 GTS25 hopefully next year. For this year it's just going to be cosmetics, body kit, wheels, spoiler, window tint, and maybe some interior.
great video! helped me a ton!
Awesome, thank you! Glad to hear that!
I’ll be doing this in a few days, doesn’t look to bad
You got it, good luck with your turbo removal. Its actually a pretty easy job. I got faith in you and thanks for watching! 👍
Rewatching a bunch of times because I’m doing this now. The crows foot is definitely a must. I’m waiting on a 1/4 extension to get the manifold nuts. How did you get the under side on the front turbo?
If your talking about the manifold nuts off the head. I used a gear wrench from the top. It was super simple to get the turbos off. Just a little time consuming. Leave the manifolds connected to the turbos and remove them as one piece. Take front turbo off first and then remove the back turbo.
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it! Best of luck with your turbo swap.
Grate job bro!!!
Appreciate it!
Love the information on this!! thanks so much! #NissanCommunity #Skyline #RBSeries
No problem, glad you liked it. Was just trying to help other feel confident to remove their turbo's themselves!
Thanks heaps brother
No problem 👍 Glad my video helped you out!
Great video.
Did you have smoke from your exhaust with the blow by? How were you turbo seals on your turbos? Any shaft play ?
I did not see any smoke from the exhaust from the rear view mirror while driving. I did not see the car on the dyno after I cleaned all the oil out of the system, so I am not sure. The DR600 did not have any shaft play that I noticed before I returned them.
Nice video.
Thanks! One of my older videos. But I remember feeling like the turbo swap was a huge accomplishment for me to do myself. Thanks for watching. Good luck on your turbos.
Hey mate, love the video, great help and just subscribed. Noticed there was quite a bit of coolant that came out when you undone the water lines. Did you flush/drain the coolant out before? Or just let it drain out? Thanks
Dont worry, i somehow skipped the start or the video🙈thanks
I drained the radiator about halfway before disconnecting those water lines from the turbos. I thought that that would be enough to drain most of the water out of the system but of course I was wrong. Hope that helps. I learned that next time I take the turbos off to drain all the cooling out of the system first to save myself from a big mess. Thanks for subscribing
@@JDMRightHandDrive ah ok then. Thanks again, will be doing mine soon and this is a great help. Thanks again
Nice video! Will def use this to get mine done. Are you upgrading to braided water/oil lines? What turbos you got goin in?
I have not decided if I will go with braided lines for the turbos. I have a set of DR500 turbos from Spectrum Motorsports in Canada. These are build off of R34 GTR turbos but upgraded with billet compressor wheels. They are good for around 480 wheel and are very responsive like stock ceramic turbos. Pairing up with Tomei cast manifolds and HKS cast elbows.
@@JDMRightHandDrive I’m on that as well, got a good Black Friday deal on Garrett -7 (34 N1 turbos) and HPI elbows. Please post a vid on the install! I’m right behind you.
@@alfredromero1839 I will absolutely post the install video. I am just waiting for the Nismo Catch can. I need to attach the oil return drain line to the rear turbo from the Nismo kit before installing the turbo to the rb26dett!
@@JDMRightHandDrive damn I wasn’t going to install my catchcan until later. I got a windshield washer replacement (with fluid level) but it came with no hoses! Do you think I’ll be ok for a bit without a catch can? I’m not upgrading ecu until Jan/feb
I know this was from 3 years ago. And you have since removed the engine. Would you say its worth it to do this job engine in car or easier to pull the engine?
Do you think you can get the rear turbo out without taking the front one off ? - I've got a blown gasket on the rear, was hoping to leave front one on ...
Yes, you can definitely remove just the rear turbo. You will have to remove the aluminum turbo inlet into the rear turbo for room and probably move the power steering reservoir. But yeah, you can definitely lift it up and out. Good luck with your project, thanks for watching.
You sir are a goood
Thank you kindly sir!
Where did you get that manual from???????
Just an easy google search. Here is the link for you! www.skyline.se/dokument/R32_gtr_service_manual.pdf
Is that a factory turbo
Yes those are the stock Garrett ceramic twin turbos that come on the R32 GTR RB26 from the factory.
nice👍
Dude i have a 1990 r32 gtr too.....this stuff isnt that complicated. Do you have to mention up garage in every friggin video like you are part owner selling youre product? Calm down son and just work on your car. It needs alot of work so just focus on that and not up garage.
