- Today we take out the Sony Xperia 1V and 1IV for a friendly little lowlight shootout using the main camera. Focused on Auto mode, these are some examples to help you decide if it's worth the upgrade or not.

Tbh I expected a bit more of a tangible difference between the two, however most shots seemed to have only minor differences. I did notice that the two portraits seemed to do much better on the 1V, so I will have to look into that more. Again, the files can all be downloaded in the description. Let me know what you want to see next! Have a great week ~
Portrait shot improvement could be due to an algorithm update and not really a hardware-inflicted improvement, it seems that 1V had a faster shutter speed. Tbh, some 1 V shots look more processed and artificially sharpened compared to 1 IV, seems they've applied more sharpening, which is not a good thing.
@@dukiduki899 I rarely opt for auto mode, especially in low light. I'm hoping to see better differences when I choose my own settings!
You should go take even darker scenario shots. It's where the difference really comes in. Again fully auto / basic mode. Then post the ISO and shutter speed and compare again.
@@dukiduki899looks fine to me. But yes it's supposed to be automatic in auto.
@@dukiduki899looks fine to me. They're not as exaggerated like many phones but are just enough to have some details. The 1 IV is using native 12MP capture while the 1V is pixel binned 12MP. It's probably why it looks sharper. Otherwise, the bigger sensor is a bit cleaner.
Wow that lowlight quality is amazing 🌃
i really like your content. Don't stop
Your wish is my command!
Great shots! Yeah, the differences in the Basic and Auto modes are really only minor. In some of the shots I found that the colour on the V was more natural and didn't have as much wash out.
I'd be really curious to see how they compare in Pro mode.
I'm expecting that's where the differences will shine the most. I'm excited to dive into it more between the two
loved the portrait shots on the 1V!!
The model is criminally underpaid 😮💨
@@ShibiChan haha! 🤣🤣
Thank you for making this comparison! I don't plan on getting the 1 V but it is still interesting to see the improvements made. Both devices seem to produce similar results though I did notice some slight difference in colour science. However, the 1 V definitely took the better looking portrait shot there
Thanks for watching! I was surprised how small the differences were, but then again it is auto. I agree, it handled challenging people shots a little better!
I know right?! I would've expected more of a difference but an improvement is an improvement in my book
I already made the decision to stick with my 1iv awhile ago It looks like I made the right decision.
I know that your channel its more foccused on Photography but i would love to see how it perfoms in night video against its predeccesor
I can do that! If you haven't seen already, I have a night walk video using the 1V posted. I also have previous 1IV walks.
But I'll also do some direct comparison shots too. Thanks for watching!
@@ShibiChan thanks!
Thats the thing, its very different see the videos of device alone that seeing an actual comparasion.
Keep it up like that Shibi, you are amazing
Thank you for this comparison.
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you found it helpful
I see that there's more natural blur in the 1 V in the portrait shot. Can't see any real difference between the V and the IV.
I have the sony 1 mark 4 and watching this I noticed a little difference but not really a lot to me.. I am still keeping my Sony Xperia 1 mark 4
And I am very happy with it.. I will upgrade to the Sony Xperia 1 mark 5 when my contract is up but I will still keep my sony
Xperia 1 mark 4..nice
Video much appreciated and your time doing this but one thing to know is if it's not broken why fix it.. 👍👍
So basically they are the same except 1 V makes sky lighter (something that previous models were praised for not doing)
Guess software did not change a bit.
Feels like 2015-2018 when Sony were selling the same phone with different Qualcomm processors, memory size, storage capacity and called it a revolutionary device each time.
Remember XZ2 Premium with its dedicated BW camera 😂
I do notice more of artificial sharpening on 1 V
Portrait shot improvement could be due to an algorithm update and not really a hardware-inflicted improvement, it seems that 1V had a faster shutter speed. Tbh, some 1 V shots look more processed and artificially sharpened compared to 1 IV, seems they've applied more sharpening, which is not a good thing. Or it could be demosaicing. I'd much more appreciate zoom camera improvements over the main sensor "improvement".
Try some comparison with Xperia 1v and new iphone 15pro max
I'd love to but I doubt I'll get my hands on the iphone haha
been debating on getting the 1 iv, 1 v or 5 iv.
upgrading from my 5 iii
but this helped me on narrowing it doing to one
I'm glad I could help! Thanks for watching!
That was Awesome!😊
What do you think of the removal of RGBC - IR Sensor and iToF?
I was thinking that these are supporting modules to help the camera sensors itself in producing better photos and videos.
And sony did remove this in Favor of AI, but why other phone maker does still have those ToF while they have these superior AI, (example pixel, iPhones, samsung)
That's a great question. To be honest, I didn't notice a major difference in focusing ability between the two, but maybe I can dive even more into that. Color science between the two does seem to be a bit different.
The iPhone seems to be utilizing their depth scanner really nicely on the new models, and I think it'd be nice to see some sort of implementation by Sony.
My ideal device would have a double one inch sensor setup, with one lens at 20-28mm and the other at around 50, with a lidar scanner like the iPhones use!
Mark V has a new main sensor.
Video in low light was good.
Video did appear to be a much better improvement!
I’m not seeing much difference between the two. I mean the better processor that doesn’t overheat makes it a worthy upgrade.
It's a little hard to explain but it definitely FEELS better to use overall. I'm going to release another one this week that shows a bit of a bigger difference than using auto mode when choosing your own settings!
Which camera shoots faster at night or low light. I have the OG xperia 1 and the only problem i have with this phone is it takes very slow photos in the house with house lights on. If anyone is moving a little. Its all blurry and useless.
Hy man really good vide, its so helpful for me,keep going🥰😍
Super pictures and i like the music too. Weird that the basic mode on the v model made everything so bright yet on auto it was fine
Thanks for watching! I rarely use auto mode myself, so I'll be doing some tests between manual as well
Do you still have the green tint from xperia 1 IV to xperia 1 V? my 1 iv has this horrible green tint. Any reply would be very much appreciated.
It's actually much improved for me! I haven't had a single time yet that I've noticed it being too green. I don't know if it's to do with software or hardware in my case though
@@ShibiChan is this the Xperia 1 iv or 1 v? Mine I just got like 2 months ago, I want to upgrade to 1 v but I am worried about the green tint might appear again.
@@finetunemusic25 The 1V is better for me. But I think my 1IV may have also improved a little with further updates
Is Xperia 1 V better than Pixel 8 Pro?
Great question, I have no idea since it's not out yet. I also doubt I'm big enough to receive a review unit, but I'm still going to try
@@ShibiChan is Xperia 1 V good enough? For camera usage
Do you think the RGBC IR sensor on xperia 1iv has an effect on the images?
It seemed to me that even though the 1V doesn't have some of the extra sensors, the new AI algorithms or whatever they introduced seem to be much better than the 1IV!
But most users in forums or some RUclipsrs believe that the previous sensor took more realistic photos than the new sensor.
@@andrew-uq2zn I think I disagree. I've found in all of my usage that it performs much better in low light. If you're talking about jpegs, I don't really have an opinion on it. I always shoot RAW if I'm going to post. But autofocus and general performance is a notable improvement for me
What about green tint on display? Suffer from?
@@andrew-uq2zn My 1V is the first Xperia device I've had that I don't notice any significant green tinting
Try shoot portrait mode this phone plzzzz 🫡
