I actually got every single one. The RP doesn't have as deep blacks as the R and it also looked a little bluer. I really had to pay attention though, and I'd be happy to have one in my bag, so no knocks on it and I'm sure the lens/filter selection or some layer adjustments could remove these (assuming you really care that much).
That's because Canon decided to push out the pro-level lenses first so professionals with like a 5D Mark IV for example can easily switch over their gear right away, rather than waiting. Take a look at the RF 35mm f1.8 lens which is currently priced at $450 which is definitely an affordable and reasonable price. Where it's EF counterpart is the EF 35mm f2 lens which is $550. Ultimately the RF lenses are lighter, faster, brighter, better, and sometimes less expensive than it's EF counterpart. Each year we will be getting more and more lenses. It just takes time. ... In the meantime, the EF to RF adaptor works perfectly with no issues at all and sometimes the EF lenses work even better on the mirrorless counterparts. And that costs $99 for a simple adaptor. Or if you want the fancy settings ring, it would be $199. ... But yeah, I see no reason why not to switch over unless if you are needing dual card slots.

If you want to wait for good 4K shooting id wait a few more months for the EOS R6 that is about the be announced, should be just a little more expensive than the EOS R currently but is rumoured to have full frame 4K 60FPS with dual pixel AF (the EOS R has a crop in 4K).

@@joshuaavalos213 yes! spot on mate. To be honest though it wouldn't make me think that i need the more expensive version. i actually liked the RP footage
I miss the days when I thought a 760d was expensive 😭
right
I'm actually going to replace my 760D with R.
chucktfp not a bad idea. 760d is a great camera but it’s definitely getting on a bit 😜
Peter: Good morning
Me at 12:30 at night: Good morning!
that transition 4.45 is really awesome
Anyone want to talk about how the rf lenses cost more then both cameras? Is it a drawback to anyone who HAS the r or rp?
Or if you want the fancy settings ring, it would be $199.
...
But yeah, I see no reason why not to switch over unless if you are needing dual card slots.
cheap ones are coming out...and the 35mm is good .... 50mm1.8 is coming out...so that is not the problem. worse case..use EF lens and use the adapter.
That exactly why i think the RP does not make sense
#1 reason I went Sony Mirrorless
Ef to eos R adapter...
I love Kirk's reaction when Pete asks aboot the ice cream cake.
So glad I've stumbled across your channel. Just started my own channel where I am buying salvage wrecked auction cars to rebuild and give away to people in need. I had a brain tumor removed 3 years ago and almost died from the operation. I feel compelled to spend the rest of my life trying to help those in need. So i decided to start my own channel. I know how to fix cars but as I'm quickly learning I have no clue about filming and cameras. So I really appreciate all the information I'm about to learn from you. Thanks so much.
Just bought a GoPro Hero 8 and I'm struggling to figure it out. Gonna upgrade to something better one day but wondering what you would suggest for something that has has easy to learn features a without a steep learning curve.
I have an EOS R. I preferred the RP every time 😂😂😂
You win. Finally a comment that doesn’t hate on the RP, but in fact celebrates it. Cheers to your honesty.
I swear I did not eat all of the ice cream cake 🤞
Legend has it Kirk is still eating said ice cream cake at this very moment
How’d you comments before the vid was posted 🧐
Kirk pls tell Pete to upload a tut on color Grading in Premiere pro pls

Sriracha bottle flex 💪
Image: R > RP, The RP looks better in these examples.
Battery: R < RP, The R uses the widely used LP-E6 battery which is easy to find.
Batterygrip: R < RP, The R uses a real batterygrip for dual E6 batteries while the RP only have a grip extension plate.
Display: R < RP, The R has the extra display on top.
Price: R > RP, The RP is way cheaper i MSRP. But used it only differs about $100 (Sweden)
"What camera should I buy?"
"I don't know anything about you."
YES THIS! :D
Lol people ask me this all the time and my answer is always the same "well what are you looking for, what are you trying to shoot, what do you want in a camera?"
WHAT"S Up Mr. McKinnon!!!!!!! Hey, one thing you didn't mention was anything about the auto focus. What's the stats with duel pixel auto in 4K? Does it have it? Does the EOS-R. Really torn on which way I should go since I would prefer to start shooting more in 4K. Besides that the timing of the video was perfect. Thanks again for everything. 💪✋👌
I want to know the same thing.
If you want to wait for good 4K shooting id wait a few more months for the EOS R6 that is about the be announced, should be just a little more expensive than the EOS R currently but is rumoured to have full frame 4K 60FPS with dual pixel AF (the EOS R has a crop in 4K).
From what I have seen is that you lose dual pixel auto focus when you switch to 4k on the RP
@@Ben.Royals thanks man. That crop factor is a bit of a bust for run and gun vlogging.
@@Ben.Royals any idea what the price on something like that is going to cost?
I got all right but the first. Wasn’t exactly easy but the dynamics are a bit better on the R
I’ve made up my mind! Definitely getting the RP after this video!
Totally was waiting for "maybe you CAN have your cake and eat it too" line 😂
Literally just went and got the RP! Thanks for the comparison
The 90d is a good in between right now! It's not a full frame but it's a beast.
The first one, I got wrong, but everything after that, I was picking right. I think I was more focused on the color's darkness or something like that.
Either way, Both of them still looked great to me!
I can't believe that Camera is around $1,000
Perhaps on my next investment, I'll aim for one of those RP baddies! :D
Nah bro the EOS RP is 1299 USD to me lol
If you find anywhere where it is 899, can you tell me please? Thanks
@@calmfree620 same I clicked on the Amazon link and it says is $1299. 🤔
I
I swear I had saw it for like $1k! Maybe it was like the body only or something.
That was fun, I picked it all but 2 of the clips. RP had more SOOC contrast, i just bought it recently to up my game. Thanks for this video.
* notification pops up *
Me: * drops everything to watch Pete's new vid *
Honestly... that caught me out half the time.
So damned close in those settings. Obviously, there's a benefit to the R over the RP, but for the price for certain people... it's phenomenal.
I have an rp and I’m loving it!! Highly recommend it
I missed 1.
Waiting for my RP and 35mm stm in the mail this Friday. Woohoo!
How do you like this combo?
Who else just loves his content?!
who else is tired of such questions?
Donell Omondi I didn’t realize the comment police came through. Who else is tired of A-holes who always have negative comments?
Great video Peter. , great comparsion and giving your thoughts on pros and cons of EOS R AND EOS RP.... very hepful.
Who is here to read the comments? :) I'm from Austria. Hallo aus Österreich! :)
Me :)
Ich auch, hallo! :)
Ebenfalls hallo! Peter hat die coolsten Videos jemals! Dein Kanal ist aber auch super!
Auch Karl Wallner Piping ist aus Österreich, hallo aus Wien!
Yes bzw. Ja! Ich spreche auch Deutsch!
Next video's intro: *So I've had the EOS R5 for a few weeks now...* 😂😂😂😂
P.S. 4:45 was some Zach King-esque type of magic haha
Nope that MKBHD stuff 😂
Thanks so much for this video. I’m getting back to it after a long break. Going with RP and a few fixed lenses for my coming back kit.
I only got 60% right and I was literally just guessing.
Rajjo rancho n bzrnrbt
@@xell2085 LMAO that's absolutely untrue. I could literally guess, without even looking, and get 100% right by pure luck.
This was amazing I really enjoyed the clean visual, music and overall editing of the video. Keep at it and hope your channel grows!
believe me, as long as the camera is in good hands tht who knows well how to handle it, the outcome we'll be pretty much outstanding. i know u wont see this @peter ,but been a fan of your work for almost 6 years & counting, fan from Malaysia ❤
The "About/Abooot" argument is moot. That's fun to say!
I preferred the RP shots every time. It felt like there were slight differences in camera movement & focus.
does it have overheating issue?
I love these comparison videos, these are the best ways to review cameras... also shows us you cant blame your tools for bad craft!
I noticed that there's a crop on the RP. So I basically got everything right after the first 2 photos 😅
There is no full HD crop for the Canon eos RP or Canon EOS R
They both have a crop factor in movie mode
JD C only in 4K. But he was shooting in HD so there’s no difference in crop. He probably just had the camera slightly closer in one of the shots
I just 2 days ago bought a Sony A6600 with a 18-105 G OSS Lens.
Thanks man this video has exactly the look im going for . RP it is
The RP has noticeably more aliasing and moire. The R is just more refined.
When that Canon R5 will come out?? I need a second camera and I'm not sure if I want to spend a money for another Panasonic GH5 (Plus all those new lenses :)
It will be officially announced in July and probably shipping in September.
Your vids are amazing bro. You inspire me to be the best photographer out there! Thanks for keeping us informed.
Peter, I am a portrait photographer (shoot wildlife photo as well) who hasn't worked in the industry in 7 years. Mirrorless is a new thing for me. I have a canon t3i from my days hustling. Is the RP a good upgrade to jump into the modern era of photography? And I assume there are adapters out there for EF lens?
A rp is a big upgrade from a t3i
there are adapters to EF lens.
I got all of them right, the EOS R shoots a little bit more "highlighted"
I have the RP and it sounds trivial but I liked the size of it compared to the big brother. I love the camera, it smashes the 600D that I owned for years before it.
lokks like its pretty noticeable due to the fact the rp feels more cropped into during the b-roll giving it away as a reason
hey i got a question, why is no one talking about the 90D anymore. is it just because of the mirrorless hype??
Yes
Because the 90D is a crop sensor
Lol, not me watching this at 11:30 pm…….
*Sorry- my photography eyes aren’t that good*
RP has a different dynamic range or something with the “whites” the R looked much more moody in a good way. So the RP is more contrasty, but less “cinematic”. Aka I like the R look
love your content man, thank you!
All, but one. Some obvious differences between the two.
Yeah there was one or two that had me thinking because of lighting. But the MP stand out.
Same here. The scoop is out of focus in one r pic.
