Both are good cameras for those in the market for a used camera but I wouldn’t recommend buying either new. I had an RP for the past 3 years and it is a great little camera but the R8 is far superior to both the RP and R for not significantly more. If the R8 is out of your price range and you want in the R system, get a used R or RP and spend the money you save on lenses. You can always upgrade the body later when you have all the glass you want. Just don’t buy a new R or RP in 2023.

I've watched so many videos comparing the two cameras, most much longer in length, that never make any conclusions. I appreciate that you took the time to explain how they compare in a quick and concise manner. Liked and subscribed!

Just bought the RP for the second time. I guess I wasn’t ready for mirrorless the first time because I went back to the 6D. Now I appreciate the RP much more. I use it for stills only and I find the DR acceptable, especially at high ISO, where I believe the difference with other cameras is much less. I use it for events mainly. Focus is not a major problem - in low light, find a contrast edge and it works fine. I use mainly focus and recompose because in a crowd, the automated face recognition mode it always chooses the wrong face! But I do use it for speakers and performers with tracking because you have to take lots is shots to get a keeper. The only thing missing is a joystick. The focus point wanders randomly if the touchscreen is live. I often turn touch focus off when things are moving fast. Good value for money but not the best for video and maybe landscapes. Good video.

I am also tossing between the RP vs R (2nd hand market though) I managed to find one on marketplace RP with low shutter count, warranty until 2025, 50mm 1.8 lens, EF to RF adapter and Lowerpro camera bag for only $1050AUD. The Cheapest R body I found was about $1350 body only so bang for the buck I think ill go with the RP. I hope I am making the right decision here haha

I have the RP and really think it's a very capable camera for professional work. Obviously, if you are able to get something better, I would go for an R6mki or mkii but if you have an RP and want to make a significative upgrade I wouldn't recommend de eos R.
The thing about the dinamic range is true, it could be better, also the lack of af in 4k, and the tiny battery. In my case, when i'm shooting in low light, I am able to get focus where I want most of the time (I usually take photos of rock bands at dark places).
If you are on a budget and find it maybe on second hand, you should give it a try.

I'm between the EOS R and the Nikon Z5, used.
With the Nikon i can adapt Nikon F, Canon EF and Sony lenses, with AF even in video, and have third party AF Z mount lenses. The Z5 have IBIS.
With the Canon I have a seamless path, and can adapt my EF lenses from my DSLRs. No IBIS, no third party lenses

Good video on the two cameras. I own them both and the R is a more robust camera. One of the reasons I bought the R was the sensor cover that covers the sensor when the camera is turned off. You have to go to the Nikon Z8 and Z9 to get a sensor protector. I change lenses often, so this saves me in time spent cleaning the sensor. This is a feature I miss having on my Nikon Z6ll, Sony a7Rlll, and the various Fujifilm cameras I shoot.

I've been using the RP for stills for just over a year now and it's great, but the R has come down in price significantly and it's really tempting to make the switch. It would only cost me about £100 to do so.
I would genuinely value the extra battery life, dynamic range, faster shutter, higher FPS and grip size (I have lanky fingers so the extension grip for the RP is a little too much, ironically).
Would you say it's worth the switch for that cost?

    • @cosmindanes9435
      @cosmindanes9435 10 месяцев назад

@@spazbandicooti would do it. The only thing i like about the RP against the R is the weight. I am tempted to get an R8 because of it's weight and better performance over those 2 but the price is a problem. I also don't like that the RP in MF has not that guide line to tell you when you are in focus , which all others have it. And about sensor protection you can trick your RP to do that either

Tho my main purpose is night club and portraits, which don’t show much of difference with both the bodies but considering future proofing and my thoughts to enter wedding photography. Will go with the R.

I always use two bodies on a job. Two RPs is a better option than one R, R8 or R6. Having two different lenses available (could be two primes or zooms) is very useful but having a backup is even more important. My first one broke while out shooting. The warranty repair was pretty quick but getting stranded mid session is awful. My backup is currently a 6D but another RP would be better.

@@juljanskurani you have to use the right cable that has the pd spec. as well as the correct transfer rate otherwise you’ll get USB 2 speeds. I wouldn’t trust it for transfer anyway though. Just nice that it charges the battery right in the camera for those times I leave my charger behind not thinking I need it.

I have many Sony, Olympus and Canon M50s and RPs, but the photo and video results are the worst with the Canon. Especially the noise in the video is brutal. The Olympus MTF sensor and the one-inch Sony RX100 VI make less noise than the Full RP, and I'm not even talking about the M50. Canon is fine in terms of the menu, the possibility of manual intervention in video and AF is fine, but otherwise they make terrible noise and snow.
