How many did you get right?!? What do you think of the RP?
idk
Please Pete upload a tutorial on "Color Grading in Premiere Pro"...
1DX Mark ii only
Love from India Pete !!!
Pete a tut on color grading in Preniere Pro pls..
I legit picked the RP 80% of the time 🤣 such a good reminder that I shouldn’t be buying a more “expensive camera”
Sup man! just finished watching your newly uploaded video 10 mins ago, seems like you're doing a lot of low key bitcoin content lately lol
This guy ! Just watched your dividends video lol.

Haha, same!
Hello there! Not surprised to see you here given the amazing quality of your RUclips videos
Me watching this video in 480p:
Mm, yes I got everything right
haha, sam here 😁
🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂
Bro...You won't understand what I understood watching this in 144p!
M watching on 240p😂😂
Spending $2300 on a lens & $1100 on lighting seems to be a key factor here.
With good lighting and good lenses the body doesn't matter...
@@samgerers and with a good photographer camera and lenses don't matter
TBH your right.... I forgot about that aspect... And its almost not fair because he's holding the RP back, no log... Big key factor
@@samgerers i hope you are kidding. get the sx740 if thats the case

Ahh, buying camera equipment is a neverending blackhole
I'm so undecided that i have been saving and saving money to buy a new one... and I'm still using my nikon D3300 xD

Lol that was me last month. Now I have an RP.😀
LOL i love everything about this comment

I hate when they label things "Entry Level".....It makes me NOT want to buy it.
Seriously. I will only buy the next one up from entry level every time lol

😂😂😂
It's good to see you watching this!
"Did you eat all the ice cream?" "You gave me an assignment and I completed it because that is what good employees do."
I think the point about asking yourself 'what could you spend the difference on' is a really helpful question, particularly when talking about camera models. It's easy to see how opting for the RP and spending the $900 difference on lens/lighting/audio etc - especially if just starting out - could make a lot of sense.
Looks like canon is trying to sell more R's and RP's before the announcement of the R5 and R6...I love it!
Im using RP now for almost 8 months and it’s great for my usual work
True man. And canon must be paying him to make these videos
@@harmandeepsingh9388 of course they are
Well since the r5 and 6 going to be like 6k
Canon will replace the R with the R5 and 6 but will continue to make the RP because thats their entry level mirrorless camera and there is a huge market for it, not one is going to drop $3-4K (R5,6) as their first camera
I’m not kidding, I got EVERY SINGLE ONE wrong...
Same I felt the RP looked better so I kept thinking it was the R
Same 😂
Yep
same hahahah
RP is somewhat brighter?
I just upgraded from the M5 to the RP. Main reason made the switch is because I wanted to move to full frame on a budget and didn't want to move to the Sony platform so that i could keep using my EF lenses with the adapter on the RP. Loving the experience so far.
Instead of getting the EOS R, get the RP, then save the $900 for lens or lighting.
Man that was a great comparison! I've been using the RP for 6 months now and still couldn't tell on most shots. The biggest difference for me is definitely in the highlight roll off. The R is just slightly better. But in good lighting conditions it's so hard to tell.
I was about 85% accurate, I found the RP to have sharper focus and detail vs the R
Me 2 mate
I agree
Yeah maybe it’s just me but the RP looked better in atleast half the shots
Me too.
Main difference is not sharpness. Main difference is codec. Black and white clipping. Watch again, and carefully look for the high contrast areas. The answer is right there.
I wasn't guessing as to which camera was which, as I was "voting" for the look that I liked the most. Of all the shots that I like the best, with the exception of one, turned out to be the RP. You now have me thinking that I may need an RP in my life - and I didn't even know that I was in the market for a new camera.
As a barista, your coffee prep b-roll segments just make me happy.
I’m glad someone with a reach like Peter has finally said it...there are no bad cameras in 2020 🤣 some people going at each other about camera battles like their life depends on it
I wonder if pete even knows about the cameras in the sub 500$ range (not including older cameras and used cameras)
900$ is not exactly entry level imo.
Saying "There are no bad cameras in 2020" while completely ignoring the actual entry level stuff is a little like saying
"Women are no longer being harrassed in the work place" while only looking at the situation in your own company and not looking at other companies.
I think what Pete really meant is: "There are no bad cameras in 2020, if you start at a certain price point."
Vorname Nachname that’s a weird comparison but I get what you’re saying. I don’t think Peter is “ignoring” lower budget cameras here but I think it was merely pointing out the differences between the two and that for an entry level with a decent budget ($900 is a fairly cheap range of its capability compared to the $1000’s for a body).
I started out photography/videography just using ye olde iPhone and it served well enough and still does for some.
I’m not sure how long it’s been since Peter used a sub $500 camera but creativity wise you’ll still get the same results...especially if you use decent enough glass...now that is a topic that will separate the men from the kids 😂😂😂
Vorname Nachname 900 bucks is entry level for a full frame and sub 500 dollar cameras from recent years do a great job for their intended users so I think he's right.
@@ichbrauchmehrkaffee5785 STFU
@@ichbrauchmehrkaffee5785 900 is entry level **for full frame**. If you get a sub $500 camera it will still give you incredible IQ, you'll just lose on ergonomics and build quality
Peter: I wanna see how trained your eye , ME: *puts glasses on*
Preferred the RP footage every time.
It looks sharper.
Same here. I wasn't trying to guess which one was which, but in under 2 seconds one appealed to me for some reason and it was the RP every time.
@@WillKlein Same. I just got the RP
Same, for some reason in some of the footage the RP seem to be a touch brighter with more punchier colours which popped a little bit more.
The difference was only slight & could maybe be put down to slight changes in ambient light or minute differences in post production adjustment, but it definitely appears to be there.
Wut how tho i thought the r looked way more cinematic and clearer it looked less noisy, maybe its bc i have been in the film industry for a long time
I've been shooting on the RP for just over 2 years now, and I love it. It's everything I need for the photography I do.
does it have over heating issue?
@@0123456789jad I've never had any issues with it at all. It doesn't have as many features as some of it's more expensive brothers. But the functionality of the features it does have run flawlessly. And the image quality is on par. It's definitely one of those situations were you can ask yourself if those extra features are really something you need. And if not, spend the extra on glass,
@@dylanshackelton845 I care much about Portrait Photography, and I am still checking the Dynamic range... As I understood it's a bit better than the 5D mark3, but nothing comparing to the 5D mark4 :/ ... is that true?
Which lens are u using it with? Just got it with the RF 24-105 STM KIT. But thinking how to upgrade from my EFS lenses
@@AKSKMY So I bought mine was a 24-105 f/4L. That one’s pretty much lives on the camera with the Peter McKinnon polar pro ND filter on it. I also have a rf50 prime an rf 85. Both of those are the cheaper versions. And I have an EF 70 to 200 that I use with an adapter ring.
I got everything after the first one right! Strangely, I just think the RP looks sharper and more pleasing.
i find the EOS R looked actually sharper . The only thing that gave it away for me ! This shows they are both great options XD
I think he had issues with focus on the R, the only one I got wrong was one that had a weird difference in distance. The R seemed to do SLIGHTLY better on clarity and color gamut. Edit: Not worth double the price.
It seems a bit moot. It’s playing back on RUclips in a low-bitrate format that doesn’t support all the features the sensors on devices (like smartphones) that can’t display the quality of the sensor. Asking to decide between two clips on such close cameras comes down entirely to one’s one bias and guessing which side has the video from each camera.
I’m saying if RUclips is your target, there’s no need to get the R over the RP as it makes no material difference other than price.
Same!
I noticed that the EOS R footage was darker than the RP so I was able to tell on almost all shots BUT I was surprised how clean the RP looked
as peter's skill goes, i don't think we can tell any major differences in an environment less ideal than peter's setup.
I noticed that as well. I was suprised at how much brighter it was as well.
I noticed that as well.
I got 3 right. I'm so glad you finally did this video. I have been on the fence about the RP for months now.
I recently got the Canon EOS R. Lens adapters are awesome. I only have two complaints that I might have missed if you mentioned them... the lack of redundancy for storage, a single SD card slot, and cropping the frame when you're shooting at 4k.
Next time on Peter McKinnon: EOS R vs EOS R5 😇
Its more about eos r vs eos r6 which is the real successor to the eos r.....eos r5 is more of a mirrorless version for the 5D cameras
Those will be short clips because the R5 will absorb every Gb of memory almost instantly at that resolution!
😂👍👍👍👍👍👍
Easy drill. Dynamic range makes the difference.
Yes, I only got 1 wrong and that's exactly what I was looking for, clipping in the highlights
same
And the RP had some digital sharpening on too, it’s noticeable specially on the skin and very rough textures
i also get all right
you can also tell by the difference between the blacks
@@thefunnytech4612 this was the giveaway for me right off. Something didn't look right, which led me to notice the R was a touch softer.
Got all of them right, the RP seems a bit more bright in low light conditions. Not that it's a game changer in my eyes, but it may be in some cases. As of now I'm a Sony A7III shooter(coming from a D600), and absolutely love it! Never really gave Canon a shot because I was under the impression that most video work was done on Canon and that wasn't really an interest of mine at the time. I used to take names as means of buying them based off of how many folks used them, and by the time I got really heavy into photography, Nikon stood out to me as a whole because of how long they've been around in a professional standpoint. But looking at the bigger picture, I then realized that a lot of camera manufacturers are catching up to the times and it has switched my world around a bit. Much love from Texas, Pete! Always an inspiration
when Peter starts doing videos like this you know he already has a R5 laying around somewhere preping for the release date........
Yes actually this video was about R5 and R6 beeing under a NDA :) and that's so obvious Peter working with Canon from beggining ;)
And he did
It’s hard to tell a quality difference on my phone screen but I can see it on my 4K TV screen if Im looking for it. I think the big takeaway here is that good lighting, composition and subject matter are key. A lesson to all the spec readers and pixel peepers out there 😎
and since most people are consuming video on their mobile devices through web compression do we need 100000000k at 60p? 😆
@@zacharybohlman4069 so true. A very tiny percentage ever watch RUclips content on a 4K tv. A few, sure. But the vast majority watch on their phones
What differences could you see on the tv? Deciding between which of the two and came across this video
I love Kirk's reaction when Pete asks aboot the ice cream cake.
Totally was waiting for "maybe you CAN have your cake and eat it too" line 😂
I love these comparison videos, these are the best ways to review cameras... also shows us you cant blame your tools for bad craft!
I legit just bought the RP and it’s getting here this week. It’s my first camera I’m excited to to learn and play with it. 🤘🏽
How are you liking your rp?
@@ahmedmekawy93 I have 1 month with my RP, my first camera, it's so so easy to master the controls of this camera because it's all available without lifting my face from camera. And the Fv is a great mode for camera, nice to be invented!

How’s the rp without flash
This was amazing I really enjoyed the clean visual, music and overall editing of the video. Keep at it and hope your channel grows!
Your vids are amazing bro. You inspire me to be the best photographer out there! Thanks for keeping us informed.
Thanks so much for this video. I’m getting back to it after a long break. Going with RP and a few fixed lenses for my coming back kit.
I managed to guess most of them right, once I noticed the RP seems to have less detail in the highlights, but gotta say it looks very solid!
I am the proud owner of an EOS RP and I got about 2, maybe 3 right 😅
Everytime I thought one shot looked better (to me) than the other, I just assumed it was the EOS R..
Makes me even happier to see what it's capable of! 📸

Cool comparison video Pete! On a similar topic I'd love to hear your thoughts on the RP vs. The M6 Mark II.
I’ve made up my mind! Definitely getting the RP after this video!
I think you should do more of these "comparing" vids more often, I like hearing what you think of them!
I got most of them right. Very nice quality of both, with EOS R shots were more zoomed out, not sure what was the reason but it's something that gave it away fro me.
This was awesome and super helpful! I think it would be great if you could now do a review on the RF vs EF lenses on these cameras, say perhaps the 70-200 variant!? That would be fantastic to see!!
Love your reviews man! Thank you once again.
Peter: Good morning
Me at 12:30 at night: Good morning!
Feel like the R was out of focus in the coffee sequence
it felt like that was a choice though
same
exactly what I thought. wow
Same I have noticed the same thing. EOSR shots were blured nd little bit dull.
100% way softer
I thought I was the only one
Other than what I think might be some minor banding in the mid-tones of the RP, there isn't much difference between the two. Thank you! A lot of friends have been asking me recently about what camera to buy to start doing photography and video. I'm a Nikon shooter, but I think the specs and price point on the RP are ideal for entry level gear.
Awesome video, thanks Peter 👍🏽
I just graduated from a bachelor's degree this year. I have yet to fully decide whether to continue a masters degree or find work by September. But I decided to work on a project of mine which is filming videos about self-development on RUclips. I've already uploaded 7 and will keep doing so over the summer. Thank you Peter for the inspiration & your filming tips. You're a legend. 🙏🔥
Go Paul!
Awesome, man! I’ve been doing the very same. Looks like we have some similar interests. Keep on creating!
Tyler Lloyd yo Tyler your content looks awesome great job
Awesome job dude!!
Shut up dude
I mean, the lens is the most important part.. and you've been using a 2000+ $ lens here.. of course it does the job well. Also kinda invalidates the "it's under 1000 bucks!" argument. 😛
For comparison tests, you should use the highest possible quality parts, so all the flaws can be attributed to the thing that’s being tested. That’s why gpu benchmarks run on high end machines, even if the gpu is not that great.
i got like 60-75% of my guesses right. very close. you can tell by the framing. actually preferred the RP in most of the cases, like "which scene genuinely LOOKS better" and most of the time it was RP. Very cool comparison
I actually got every single one. The RP doesn't have as deep blacks as the R and it also looked a little bluer. I really had to pay attention though, and I'd be happy to have one in my bag, so no knocks on it and I'm sure the lens/filter selection or some layer adjustments could remove these (assuming you really care that much).
When I heard him say "it's not the end of the world" I thought John Cena was going to break through the wall and say "ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT!".
I own the EOS-R...interestingly the RP seems "warmer" in the examples you've shown
Literally got this as my first interchangeable lens camera a year and a half ago to become a professional photographer and it's already paid for itself!
Unfortunately to me what this says is just how overpriced the R is and how held back the RP is to avoid butchering Canon's other models. ☹️
My god, I picked the RP as looking better in EVERY SINGLE SHOT...
Me too. Way preferred the RP
@@andyschar Same here. 90% of the time I picked the RP.
I also liked de RP more. Thought i saw more details in the dark shades. I first watched the photo's part and thought the RP was the expensive one. So today i have learned: i like cheap!?!?! 😉
So the point is in colour grading master = :)
The RP is so underrated it gets over looked all the time.
I have an EOS R. I preferred the RP every time 😂😂😂
You win. Finally a comment that doesn’t hate on the RP, but in fact celebrates it. Cheers to your honesty.
I got most right. The details in dark backgrounds were a little more apparent with the R but it was really really hard when you didn’t have low contrast to look for. So cool.
Great vid! Can't wait to see a similar video for the R5 vs R6!
I missed 1.
Waiting for my RP and 35mm stm in the mail this Friday. Woohoo!
How do you like this combo?
Anyone want to talk about how the rf lenses cost more then both cameras? Is it a drawback to anyone who HAS the r or rp?
That's because Canon decided to push out the pro-level lenses first so professionals with like a 5D Mark IV for example can easily switch over their gear right away, rather than waiting.
Take a look at the RF 35mm f1.8 lens which is currently priced at $450 which is definitely an affordable and reasonable price. Where it's EF counterpart is the EF 35mm f2 lens which is $550.
Ultimately the RF lenses are lighter, faster, brighter, better, and sometimes less expensive than it's EF counterpart. Each year we will be getting more and more lenses. It just takes time.
...
In the meantime, the EF to RF adaptor works perfectly with no issues at all and sometimes the EF lenses work even better on the mirrorless counterparts. And that costs $99 for a simple adaptor. Or if you want the fancy settings ring, it would be $199.
...
But yeah, I see no reason why not to switch over unless if you are needing dual card slots.
cheap ones are coming out...and the 35mm is good .... 50mm1.8 is coming out...so that is not the problem. worse case..use EF lens and use the adapter.
That exactly why i think the RP does not make sense
#1 reason I went Sony Mirrorless
Ef to eos R adapter...
love your content man, thank you!
Honestly I got them all! It’s amazing how trained my eye has become from watch videos like this that you and others have made! Thanks for the great review and information!
The easiest way I spotted the difference is the EOS RP allows more light. Good quality for sure!

right
I'm actually going to replace my 760D with R.
chucktfp not a bad idea. 760d is a great camera but it’s definitely getting on a bit 😜
believe me, as long as the camera is in good hands tht who knows well how to handle it, the outcome we'll be pretty much outstanding. i know u wont see this @peter ,but been a fan of your work for almost 6 years & counting, fan from Malaysia ❤
The entertainment value for this is amazing😊🔥
I just did my "after 30 days" review. Love the RP
Sony a6400 or canon eos rp ???? Which would u buy for urself ?
Dipesh Puri I bought the RP. I’ve always been a canon guy.
I've had my RP for over a year now and when I got it I really liked it, but after the improved eye AF firmware update I absolutely love it. I mainly bought it for landscape photography, where the EOS R didn't really have a lot going for it, and at the time it was $2500 vs $1300. The only thing that I would change about it would be to give it a bigger battery, which is something they did change in the R6 from what I've heard.

Great video Peter. , great comparsion and giving your thoughts on pros and cons of EOS R AND EOS RP.... very hepful.
Got every single one right. The RP’s highlights and shiny surfaces where a bit different.
Yes! This was what i saw too
I noticed the same thing. The reflections and imperfections on the glass and metal were easier to notice.
Spot on. Thats it, you nailed it. The quality of the reflections. We must confess we're seeing color matched side by side footage which is impressive.
@@joshuaavalos213 yes! spot on mate. To be honest though it wouldn't make me think that i need the more expensive version. i actually liked the RP footage

This is a great video really gave us something to think about as we are looking to upgrade our cameras.

When that Canon R5 will come out?? I need a second camera and I'm not sure if I want to spend a money for another Panasonic GH5 (Plus all those new lenses :)
It will be officially announced in July and probably shipping in September.
I feel a vid about the R5 and R6 is coming real soon
Get it done bro, I feel you’re the only one qualified to do so 🙏
I could not tell which one was the R or RP, but I have my eye on the RP because it is within my price range and the shots that I gravitated towards were mostly from the RP. I was deciding between 6DMKII and the EOS RP, but also wondered if I should save up longer for the R. Now I have made my decision to buy the RP! :)
WHAT"S Up Mr. McKinnon!!!!!!! Hey, one thing you didn't mention was anything about the auto focus. What's the stats with duel pixel auto in 4K? Does it have it? Does the EOS-R. Really torn on which way I should go since I would prefer to start shooting more in 4K. Besides that the timing of the video was perfect. Thanks again for everything. 💪✋👌
I want to know the same thing.
If you want to wait for good 4K shooting id wait a few more months for the EOS R6 that is about the be announced, should be just a little more expensive than the EOS R currently but is rumoured to have full frame 4K 60FPS with dual pixel AF (the EOS R has a crop in 4K).
From what I have seen is that you lose dual pixel auto focus when you switch to 4k on the RP
@@Ben.Royals thanks man. That crop factor is a bit of a bust for run and gun vlogging.
@@Ben.Royals any idea what the price on something like that is going to cost?
Honestly... that caught me out half the time.
So damned close in those settings. Obviously, there's a benefit to the R over the RP, but for the price for certain people... it's phenomenal.
So glad I've stumbled across your channel. Just started my own channel where I am buying salvage wrecked auction cars to rebuild and give away to people in need. The "About/Abooot" argument is moot. That's fun to say!

Very impressive Peter and i appreciate i'm late to the party. How would you compare this to the Sony ZV-1 as an all out vlogging camera?
You are a really filmmaking hero! I like youre video's very much 👌
That was actually difficult. I got about 50% right.. but I did notice watching it a second time, the RP seemed a bit brighter in tone and in some shots looked crisper than the EOS R. Very comparable from the side by sides.
lokks like its pretty noticeable due to the fact the rp feels more cropped into during the b-roll giving it away as a reason
Great comment Peter, Does it have the features that are awesome for you. great.
Thanks!! Helped a lot!
