The funny thing about Myst is that for every puzzle that's a devious logical nightmare there's another puzzle that just has its solution like, etched into the wall of a revolving lighthouse or something.
My mom, the smartest person I know, took a guide book out of the library to beat Myst, and has never played another videogame since... Coincidence? I think not.
Something that was great about Chants of Senarr, and spoiler warning, was how each layer makes you feel like you are finally getting to meet whoever the "bad people" were in the tower because each layer made you thin the next layer was like the root of all evil. But as you explore each layer and learn about them, by the end you realize there were no bad people and it was entirely all misunderstandings. The religious people thought the warriors were bad and it looked like it as they were actively blocking the religious people, but the warriors were preventing anyone from going to where the monsters were. This repeats for each floor of the tower until you find out what caused all the misunderstandings. There were times when I had translated something correctly but thought it was referring to people but it was actually something else, so you interpret the meaning of some words more than once and I think that was intentional.
I think it was too! One mistake both I and a friend made while playing was mistranslating a word on the bard's level as "servant" and then I found out what it ACTUALLY meant and I was like YEESH these guys really are tools (even though they are my favorite hahaha)
Everyone should also play the games you said at the start, return of the obra dinn, outer wilds, and tunic. 1st one for another detective style game that inspired case of the golden idol, 2nd one is an exploration game and my fav game of all time, and third is a Zelda-like game with really cool and smart secrets
Your immortality video still lives rent free in my head in the best and worst ways (I had multiple nightmares after playing it after watching your video)😭
I really liked Agent A a puzzle in disguise back around 2018. it was episodic then and i finished 4 episodes and then it took a long time for the final episode to drop. i had lost my save because i changed phones but I'd have to play the whole thing again anyway even if i didnt. It was a lovely puzzle game with a great aesthetic
Ultracool. From all the games I didn't know a half, which is impressive given I'm not a stranger to the grnre. And more investigative games is always better. Thanks!
Heyyy we have a really similar taste in games. Great to see these games mentioned. Already played all of them as well as Disco Elysium, Pentiment, Viewfinder, Superliminal, Outer Wilds, Fez, Tunic which all kind of have that special something that makes me like a game althought it is hard to pin down
wow! i never realised that obra dinn and outer wilds, which are some of my most beloved games, form a genre! and apart from the first one all the games in the video were new to me. thank you, i'll surely play them all!
I will say I'm surprised you liked the expansions better than the original with regards to Case of the Golden Idol. I know my fiends and me who played it, did not enjoy the expansions as much as the original. I do appreciate all the games you've introduced me to. I hadn't heard about Blood on the Thames and that looks like a game that will definitely hit a lot of my buttons.
These look cool :) i’m pretty sure i have Sennar downloaded - i was looking for a game recently about language and it came up. i leaned Spanish while living in another country, and on returning home I couldn’t think of that much art about being bilingual. it’s a really interesting experience, and would make a super cool game, if only that were feasible to make. so even if Sennar isn’t 100% about that, it’s certainly intriguing enough. also Blood on the Thames looks rad and i will be keeping an eye on it
cool video, but you really need new mic, your voice is compressed beyond recognition, you might think audio quality isn't important in a video but now one will watch a video that sounds bad , you can try fixing your sound quality by other means but you have to fix it
I do think it is, I swear! I am in a temp recording space and I could NOT fix the echo and the result is this mess. Hence the neurotic note in the description. Next video will be in my new sound treated recording space, and sounding more up to my standards

god that's so real...

Not a half, but two fifths (I can't count), but still

watching you describe case of the golden idol made *me* feel smart! Aight, you've convinced me!!
Haha yes!! I hope you have as much fun as I did!

We have the same brain. Finding moebius art in games has been aing term project of mine
RIGHT?? It's so gorgeous, I love to see it. Honestly I am a sucker when any game's art style aims to ape a specific artist or artistic movement.
You'll have a hard time to make ME feel smart!
A good investigation game can make even the dinglest and dingleberries feel smart, I should know! I am the dingleberry
Yess chants of sennaar is great. I loved it so much, I wrote one of the guides for it.
I guess this is my cue to play more of Immortality. Bought it a long time ago and never got into it, will try again today! (Loved Her Story, btw)
I absolutely have to recommend Who's Lila?
Also great video! Loved it and now I'm subbed :)
Great video! I LOVE this style of game so thanks for pointing out some I've never heard of!
Oh man, ME TOO!
lmao i saw this while i was in the middle of my run of Case of the Golden Idol and i felt so called out LOL
LOL Timely!
