    I wonder if, with how malleable the backrooms as a concept truly is, if anyone has tried an attempt at a house of leaves-esque take on it. A place inexplicably tied to a person's mental psyche like the Navidson's house is.

      I was just thinking about that the other day!! I'm not clever enough to come up with a good narrative for that, but if someone else made it I would eat it up.

    my favorite thing about what makes liminal spaces unsettling is that it comes down to the fact that most of them are places you only are meant to spend a specific amount of time at, at specific times of day; a transitory space. they become erie when you are seeing them not fufilling their purpose, when you are seeing them when you shouldn't be. an elementary school at night, an abandoned amusement park, an empty playground, a building stripped of its furniture in between renovations, ect. these are Liminal Spaces.

    • @redmegarex
      @redmegarex 2 месяца назад +2

      and, they're in between definitions, places that both feel 'off' and places transitional, making them all the more liminal

    I've watched more videos on the backrooms than I want to admit publicly but this got me appreciating the subject in a whole new way. I never thought about the specific appeal via generational anxiety and loneliness before.

    It’s always so impressive to me how you can take a subject I would otherwise not know or really care about and get me so invested and thinking about them in ways I wouldn’t have on my own, it’s like being absorbed into a really good movie everytime! Another great video and I’m honored to have done a reading for it, great work katie!!! 💕

  • @KitCabaret

    "Of course these spaces are empty, no one's allowed to grow up here anymore." *OOF* that line hit me like a truck. That encapsulates so much of my feelings on liminal imagery: as someone in their 30s, I see my own past abandoned, a nostalgia that future generations will never experience. It feels deeply unfair honestly, that I have the privilege to feel comforted by these memories that cause nothing but dread in others.

    I saw this about a month ago and it's kinda stuck in my head, so I'm coming back to comment.
    One part stood out to me. The part about how loneliness is caused by a mismatch in social expectations. While I know this probably seems like simply nitpicking a word choice. I feel like saying it's a mismatch in social needs is a better explanation. If you need a shoulder to lean on, a party is likely going to make you feel worse for example. The problem is between social media and a world that continues to move faster and faster, certain forms of social connections are much harder to find and maintain. Leading many people to have their social needs unfulfilled despite spending much of their days surrounded by other people.
    It's not merely an expectation, it's that our needs are often not being met by the social interactions most common and acceptable in today's society. Leading back to what the topic of isolation. We're often more isolated than ever before despite being constantly and immediately connected to almost everything via the internet.
    Really enjoyed the way you connected these themes, great video!

    Bold of you to assume public school was a social environment :3
    Half-joking. Fair warning that what follows consists mostly of bitter ranting about experiences of childhood trauma/abuse
    Obviously the environment itself was "social" in the sense that socializing occurred there, but growing up closeted, su******lly depressed, and autistic was more isolating than curled up staring at the default desktop background of windows 7 for hours on end, dreading the prospect of getting "disciplined" (read abused, most often verbally/emotionally but they didn't exactly limit themselves to any one form of shittiness) by parents for not spending enough hours suffering infront of microsoft word, willing an essay to spring forth with zero success. Ironic then that I ended up being an (amateur) writer and illustrator ig haha (esp with the negative amount of support I received in any creative expression after my gran died)
