What a lovely review! It's by some serendipity that I run into this video shortly after reading a piece on the game in "EDGE" magazine. Thanks for showing plenty of details for the game without spoiling too much either. That's always a tricky balance to properly strike with game reviews.

I thought this game might have been DID issues inspired as there are a lot of themes and dialogues that match up.

Never played the game, but the concept reminds me of that scene in Empire Strikes Back where Luke asks Yoda what's in the cave and he says, "Only what you take with you."

As an autistic, who has turned avoidant due to past trauma and have mostly just given up on relationships bc I'd assumed that I was incapable of ever getting close with someone, this makes me wonder if maybe I'm wrong

Looking back to my journey to video games, all single player games should have codes for invincibility, infinite resources, level select, developer console, what ever applies to the genre. They could be menu options, there's no difference how they technically work, but cheat codes are just cooler because they feel secret even though they really aren't. Cheat codes allow you a zero risk environment to get used to the controls and how games generally work without feeling patronising. And that is important for beginners and especially children. I played games and had fun with them from a very early age even if I was well into my teens before I started engaging with the challenge presented by them without cheats. And that allowed a smooth transition because I had well established foundation so the challenge felt fair and overcomeable.

I really liked Agent A a puzzle in disguise back around 2018. it was episodic then and i finished 4 episodes and then it took a long time for the final episode to drop. i had lost my save because i changed phones but I'd have to play the whole thing again anyway even if i didnt. It was a lovely puzzle game with a great aesthetic

Heyyy we have a really similar taste in games. Great to see these games mentioned. Already played all of them as well as Disco Elysium, Pentiment, Viewfinder, Superliminal, Outer Wilds, Fez, Tunic which all kind of have that special something that makes me like a game althought it is hard to pin down

I saw this about a month ago and it's kinda stuck in my head, so I'm coming back to comment. One part stood out to me. The part about how loneliness is caused by a mismatch in social expectations. While I know this probably seems like simply nitpicking a word choice. I feel like saying it's a mismatch in social needs is a better explanation. If you need a shoulder to lean on, a party is likely going to make you feel worse for example. The problem is between social media and a world that continues to move faster and faster, certain forms of social connections are much harder to find and maintain. Leading many people to have their social needs unfulfilled despite spending much of their days surrounded by other people. It's not merely an expectation, it's that our needs are often not being met by the social interactions most common and acceptable in today's society. Leading back to what the topic of isolation. We're often more isolated than ever before despite being constantly and immediately connected to almost everything via the internet. Really enjoyed the way you connected these themes, great video!

My knee-jerk on the Adversary symbolism is that the crossing barbs are actually representing crossing swords, just in the abstract way that the rest of the Stranger ropes are portrayed.

"Of course these spaces are empty, no one's allowed to grow up here anymore." *OOF* that line hit me like a truck. That encapsulates so much of my feelings on liminal imagery: as someone in their 30s, I see my own past abandoned, a nostalgia that future generations will never experience. It feels deeply unfair honestly, that I have the privilege to feel comforted by these memories that cause nothing but dread in others.

Some people recently(ish) found where the original backrooms photo was taken which is kinda cool

Slay the princes is absolute gold. I whish there way way more games like that Short high quality and meaningfull. If the quistion if games can be art was not put to bed yet already slay the princes setteld it completely.

Graveyard Keeper is one of the few games in my Steam library that I've actually completed, highly recommend.

My mom, the smartest person I know, took a guide book out of the library to beat Myst, and has never played another videogame since... Coincidence? I think not.
