You can get Chaos Control capsules during Chaos Control, and it's true that the capsule won't actually "pop" until it ends since it's frozen too. I guess that capsule glitch is the game giving you the meter, and the instant activation causing the capsule to trigger again since I guess it doesn't _quite_ instantly clear away the capsule. Kind of a guaranteed "frame-perfect" dupe, if you will.
I’m almost certain this has already been found, but I discovered that if you boost the moment Shadow touches water, he and his manta ray will get insane speed through the water. I was doing the kingdom valley challenge and went so fast I went through the bombs.
I've figured that out too. Another cool trick is that if you jump and press R1 or L1 (I'm on playstation) to do the spin attack, you can essentially triple your airtime
I'm convinced the Chaos Spear tech is completely intentional from the devs. Sonic Team embraces the Speedrunning community (for obvious reasons) and even made the Homing Dash an official, hidden ability in Sonic Frontiers as they kept it in during development
Yeah I’m 50/50 on it because they patched the Homing Dash out of this game but the Spear Tech is really cool so I hope they do something similar and make it official
It IS intentional. Because several alternatives routes are straight up impossible to reach without using Chaos Spear : In Radical Highway Act 2, if you choose a non Black Wing run, you can skip an entire phase of the level using it, and there is a platform conveniently placed in the middle of the air so you can land a foot and continue. The Space Ark Act 1, right at the beginning instead of taking the green wall or attacking the meteors on the side, you can straight up jump into the void and using chaos spear to reach the 3 platforms, by pure chance, placed there. In Kingdom Heights, you need it to skip all the bald eagle phases and the combat phase in the church. You send the black doom mob on the side, then fly with chaos spear, and reach the eagle directly. And several examples. Out of the strategies players discovered, some routes are clearly made for it by design.
@@DawnSRCTo be fair on the homing dash, I don't think that was an intentional attempt to patch it, but rather a consequence of having Shadow teleport straight to the enemy instead of just flying at them like Sonic does.
@@ethanmontgomery6132 when you homing attack stuff like a balloon or spring, shadow still has a normal homing attack and that doesn't work. trust me, it was the first thing I tried lol
8:58 This is probably how the game gives you another chaos control when you it during Chaos control, if you don't have it normally you hit it and the extra resources are wasted, if you hit it during it the resources will fly and the instant one will be wasted. Honestly, this isn't even really a glitch, it's more an exploit if even.
Its important to note that capsule glitch actually can have two different ways of being utilized that is dependent on how you hit the capsule. When you run into it, you can get an entire two chaos controls. BUT, homing attacking the capsule will actually give you one partial charged chaos control along with one full one due to how you get chaos energy in this game. See when you homing attack an enemy, chaos energy will actually leave the enemy prior to chaos control because of the lag inbetween inputs, meanwhile when you are running, because there is no delay on when you get chaos control, the energy that comes out of the capsule actually freezes before entering you. Because of this, when you chaos control a capsule while homing attacking, the energy that comes out will be from the first few bits but the rest of the chaos energy will come after you chaos controlled since you froze it before all of the energy could be loaded in.
I like Spear Glide because it's literally the most fitting name and when I think about the name without thinking of this tech, I think of Shadow standing on a Chaos Spear as it soars through the sky, like Mercenary Tao did in that one episode of the original DB with a tree log.
Small note for the Rail Canyon skip: it's useless in a full game run, since you don't get the Shadow Emblem from attacking the Doom's Eye, and you need all three Emblems to fully awaken Black Moon.
You did such a great job at respecting the work put into making a genuinely good Sonic game while having fun with all the things you can do with it, i loved this video!
It’s crazy. Sonic Frontiers had rail launching before the team introduced the homing attack and a jump deceleration slider, Shadow Generations has spearmaxxing, and both mechanics make up for the lack of maintainable airspeed and free-flowing movement. Clearly, at least someone in the team knows what really makes Sonic games fun since they keep managing to sneak these in.
The part of shadow generations NO one talks about is how it makes you FEEL like shadow, and that sense of power of fantasy is something that few sonic games did those BOSS QTEs are mostly mashing the X button but because in normal gameplay chaos snap/ attacking is on X it makes you feel awesome and brings so much immersion, and the simple act of Chaos Control on how everything stops fell exactly how shadow would feel
I use spear gliding during the mephales boss fight when he covers the ground with corruption (the purple slowing liquid is called that in the Q&A). It makes dodging his first phase a joke since while doing the tech your also hitting his minions at the same time.
You mentioned SA2. In that game in Final Rush,Shadow used Chaos Spear and moved with momentum while doing so maintaining his speed. I really don’t think it as a glitch as more of a callback, and I love this ability. What is sad is it took us over 20 years to play with all of Shadows abilities. Then again I think he had the chaos spear in SA3 AKA S06,but I remember it was heavily nerfed disappointing the speedrunning community.
@@aultra-magawhostandsagains7974 I presume you're referring to the second shadow fight where he uses it or an attack that looks similar (though I forgot about the multiplayer mode in SA2 so maybe he can use it there)
I just call it Spear-Boosting, and is one of the first times I've found a speedrunning trick completely independently. Feels kinda nice. As for the CC Capsules, I feel like its intentional design. If you just attack a capsule any time while in CC, it won't break until time resumes, giving you another full bar of CC as soon as the previous one ends, regardless of when you hit it. Either way, I'm so happy to see Shadow Generations recieved well, and by precious childhood franchise back on its feet.
hitting a chaos control capsule while in chaos control will give you it anyways, even without it being perfect. you can be 3 seconds in, hit one, and it will wait until you are out of chaos control to give you it again. got a lot of s ranks that way.
How do I submit a recording of a glitch I found to the community. In Rail Canyon Act 1 with the Doom Wings, I boosted to a certain area and went upwards. I call it "Doom Wing Ascend". How do I submit this recording (It was on Xbox Series X, btw)
Also you have to be careful flying out of bounds. My wife kept trying to fly out of bounds with SA2 logic and was pissed that it always killed her. I just found it ironic everyone talks about how much freedom there is to move around but she said she felt very limited with little freedom because she kept dying for not sticking to the path. lol
There is also a tech like the spears by boosting immediately jumping and then holding down the quickstep. You can skip even earlier in Kingdom Valley Act 1with this.
While some glitches/bugs that are game-breaking end up being awful, like Zelda's SRM, but things like the Spear Tech in this game is the epitome of "It's not a bug, it's a feature." It is cool, useful, fun and doesn't break things enough to be obnoxious. Something I hope doesn't get patched out.
I really wish the PS5 version of the game had full button remapping. Spear gliding seems so fun, but being forced to use triangle makes it basically impossible from what I've tried.
I think the biggest problem with the game is how the air speed is horrible compared to Sonic Generations, and then it gets worse with the spear spamming. It's really cool seeing some of the techs but I don’t enjoy running it
