Fun fact: On clip #3 future F1 esports driver and RUclipsr Jarno Opmeer was in that race and managed to miss the pile-up.
I saw him appear in the graphic at the tail end of the clip. Quite cool!

That Atlanta crash in 2001 was some Dan Wheldon accident style. Luckily nobody got killed back then...
Absolutly! But Wheldon´s crash was more speed included. The flying cars was scary.
Was definitely reminiscent of the Vegas tragedy. Maybe could've somehow learned from this Atlanta crash, primarily with an introduction of some type of a head protectant.
Of course, hindsight is 20/20.

Should’ve added IndyCar’s lap 1 wreck at St. Pete this year and the massive pileup at Nashville (Crashville) a couple years ago.
When I see crashes like this I'm still surprised we didn't had more fatalities before introducing halo device. Debris everywhere, so easy to got random hit.
The Halo isn't the be-all end-all safety device. Helmets have saved hundreds more lives over the years.
@@TheSwertok, yeah. Your helmet can small debris, which a halo also cant, but your halo is able to stop tyres being flung at your face. Helmets wont be able to protect you against this
@@jeffreytenthije go watch some videos of crashes from the past 50 years before halos were introduced. Helmets have protected drivers against flying tyres many many times. Helmets are strong!

The list is interesting, and I think there were some missing beats, like the start of the Formula 1 Italian GP in 1978, the accident that almost cost Johnny Herberth's life in a Formula 3 race at Brands Hatch in 1988, the terrible accident of the Formula Indy Las Vegas Grand Prix in 2011, the catastrophic start of the late CART United States 500 Miles in 1996.

The question posed at the very end is the same question posed today. Most people thought the late chaos at Melbourne was exciting for example.
Another one that should DEFINITELY be on this list is the 2011 Las Vegas Crash in the Indy Car series! It was HUGE!!! There were cars exploding and flying around drivers were hurt drivers were killed the race was cancelled total chaos it was terrible!!!!!!
