  • A fierce debate is raging over a video that shows a father forcing his 10-year-old son to run to school in the rain. In the footage, Bryan Thornhill drives slowly behind his son, Hayden, as the boy runs to school in Roanoke, Va. Behind the camera, Thornhill explains he made Hayden run for a mile for bullying other kids on the school bus. "He was being a little bully, which I do not tolerate," Thornhill says. "This right here is just old school, simple parenting." #InsideEdition

    • @emmamcm3886
      @emmamcm3886 6 лет назад +3

      Discipline is taking away his console, grounding him, not letting him go to a sleepover, hell I’m not even against a smack on the leg. But this is beyond discipline, this is humiliation. Yes children need to learn, but one needs to also get to the bottom of why their child is a bully. You need look no further in this case. If this is how he treats his son in public, goodness knows how he treats him behind closed doors. Hence why the child is a bully. I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t treat your child like that.

    • @rainbowmagic7888

      Frodo B Yeah, then the my whole country will be full of bullies. You discipline harshly them because they don't listen when you teach them the soft way, because you love them. Spare the rod spoil the child.
      I've seen parents cry in a corner after whacking their children, or secretly at night use oilment on their bruises. Depending on the child's character, you have to choose between soft or hard love. If you choose soft love on a hard child you will teach a cancerous child and give to the society.

    • @fasteddie9476
      @fasteddie9476 6 лет назад +10

      Frodo B you must be a millennial man. Really don’t let the kid go to a sleepover that’s your punishment. In this dumbass generation you can’t win. If this kid was bullying your child you wouldn’t be to happy if his punishment was he couldn’t go to a sleepover. But yet the parents disciplined him not in a regular way but so what the kids not hurt or emotionally damaged. I and I’m pretty sure a lot and i mean a lot of us got punished way worse and turned out completely 100% fine. There’s kids now who disrespect adult talk back and even fight with parents and do whatever they want and the reason that’s happening is cause the parents don’t punish there kids. What telling a kid to go to his room where he has a tv, phone, PlayStation is punishment? Sign me up then

The problem I have with the situation and the opinions of some people is that they think if you don't use stuff like this to punish your kids, they'll turn out bad. My parents have hardly ever spanked me and definitely never done this (would absolutely never record it), and I behave. Not the one being berated for being obnoxious in class and whatnot

      ZN I’m no sorry to hear that. Glad you came out the other side buddy. When I was a child I was a victim of sexual abuse. I covered it up for years very well. However at one point I started bullying another girl a year younger than me. Then one day I saw her face and she just looked scared and then it really hit me what I was doing. I was miserable and sad and wanted to make someone else miserable and sad. I went straight over to her and said sorry. We were friendly enough after that, not besties obviously. I felt so bad I made her feel scared. I guess you can’t really teach children empathy but you can be empathetic yourself and normally the child will follow your lead.

      Terncote Look, I think when you make it personal with your kid, then it's embarrassment. I can understand that the man probably feels (backwards though it may seem) that the world needs to see what parenting looks like. I hold the same position as you but not with this punishment in particular. This parent isn't going and putting his son in front of the camera and saying that he needs to confess to everything he did and then proceed to smash his Xbox and shave his head live. That's making the kid suffer with no defense. This guy felt he needed to sort of justify his punishment to people who don't like this kind of punishment and I can get behind that.

  • @mripwntheworld

    The key here is that he was driving behind him. Having him run to school by himself would have been a bad idea, but instead he not only was watching him but was in a car in case his son couldn't run anymore. A+ discipline.

      My school is so lazy that administrators literally had to make it so that you could walk the mile run so it didn't end up where half the school can't graduate due to failing PE.

    As long as the kid isn’t sick and the dad was following him, I’m not mad at it. Violence to correct possibly violent or nasty behavior sometimes is the total opposite of helpful

  • @rynrynrain8012
    @rynrynrain8012 6 лет назад +13

    Grounding a kid nowadays doesn't jack; many parents would just take their electronics for a day or so, and then the kid would probably forget all about it the next day. This kind of punishment, on the other hand, will surely stick with the son as a reminder of what not to do and what type of behavior is not tolerated. Sort of like the older practice of washing a kid's mouth with bar soap if they curse.

      I agree with everything you said except with the soap in mouth, my friends mom did it and she had to go to the hospital for soap posioning.
