I don’t know what to tell you, folks. This song is pure ear candy. Such lovely guitar play throughout. The music video btw is absolutely remarkable. Stop motion. I believe it took a few months to make
I have since watched a few live performances of it. Very unique and entertaining. Not quite sinking in yet, but it will...always does
You should see the live version and the way Thom handles the bass with so much ease. Like it had been his main instrument all along😳
Amazing
This one really grew on me
I think it'll take a few more listens for me too
I just saw them in NYC. An amazing show! I’ve seen Radiohead 6 times, and the Smile set is their most stripped down and intimate.
Still holding my breath for a new Radiohead album though.
Punchdrunk Lovesick Singalong
Saw them down in Charleston. It was next level amazing. They can do no wrong.
Some of my favorite songs are 10-15 minutes long! lol
If you’re not already aware, The Smile is currently on tour. I’m seeing them in Portland on the 14th 😊
I did say it was like no other Radiohead track. It’s a busy track but it’s Tom Skinner’s drumming that stands out for me. He’s a completely different style of drummer from Phil, which allows Thom and Johnny to do something different (that is no criticism of Phil). Also, it’s a bit of a trippy track with trippy lyrics… Just wait till you see the video in all its trippy stop-motion glory.
Maybe calm it down a bit with The Smoke for the next The Smile track.
Yes. The drumming has been my favorite part, even on re-listens. But the guitar parts are growing on me too, of course.
Saw these guys live in Dallas. Life-changing!
This has become my favourite track off of the album, but it is definitely a grower. I'd say do The Smoke or Skrting On The Surface (which is an unreleased Radiohead track completed by The Smile) next
I've introduced my kids to Thom/Radiohead an ALBUM at a time. All the songs are incredible, but the album experience is priceless.
Most of the songs on this album were growers for me. I’ve come to love them all now, ALFAA isn’t on the same level as other Radiohead albums but I love listening to Thom and Jonny experiment.
I'm listening to The Smile for the first time along with y'all, and the opening gives me In Rainbows vibes. Overall, I agree the song was not a standout on first listen.
Like most Radiohead tracks, they are growers not showers. 😂. Keep listening. It’s totally worth it!
Most addicting song off the album for me
Give it time 😉 I'll second The Smoke that someone else suggested, and how about giving Ed a turn? Deep Days from Earth would certainly be a contrast to Thin Thing!
I have to admit, I listened to Ed's stuff right when it was released, so it wouldn't be a first reaction for me. A very classic sound. I think Jakob may like it.
@@the15thfloor71 Yes, I was thinking it might give Jakob a break 😆 If I'd stopped to think for even a second I'd have realised you'd have already heard it!
This one grew on me after seeing live versions.
For something more in line with Pana-vision and Free In The Knowledge, I would go with Open The Floodgates or Skrting On The Surface. For something that sounds different, The Smoke or You Will Never Work In Television Again.
You need to get him to listen to Radiohead an album at a time. Radiohead is an album band. It’s about the entire work of art, not a single.
I love everything Thom Yorke has ever done, this song kicks off the Smile album for me the second half of the album far more interesting than the first in my opinion.
Please React to the band - Nothing But Thieves - The lead singer (Conor Mason) is a massive Radiohead fan, and you can definitely hear how that’s influenced their sound as a band!
Conor is a classically trained vocalist, and has such a beautiful voice. His range is outstanding. They play around with different genres of music, and I’m yet to hear a song of theirs I dislike!!
Recommend listening to -
Impossible ( the live at abbey road version is incredible)
Graveyard Whistling
Particles
& Six Billion
These four songs have that Radiohead vibe I think you’ll love! Really hope you give them a go 💚 x
you got to show him the video - and you need to decode the video. very deep commentary on how computers have consumed us and are the death of humanity.
Clearly not musicians reacting to this.
They admit it up top. Even as a musician, this one took a few listens to get me. It took seeing that riff played live to fully appreciate it.
