Yeah a lot of the Smile songs are growers and by 2027 when you've got the whole album under your belt, you can go back and check out out the live versions and how excellent they've been.
They even did a "tiny desk"(NPR) show last week, which was fantastic, as well as Seattle's KEXP YT channel. Trust me it'll seem better once you get to see and hear it all.
lmao
First of all this song is in 5/4, which is always neat. Apart from them having done a semi live show for Glastonbury in mid 21 containing some of their songs, I believe this was the first single they released. To me it felt super special and different with the punk sound and excellent vocals by Thom Yorke. Not that his vocals aren’t special in general, but he sounds much younger on this track. Super solid track.
For the viewer requests, I recommend Sleeping Ute by Grizzly Bear. A band who opened for Radiohead around the in rainbows era.
Much like Radiohead, you have to listen to this album a few times to really appreciate it. I didn't love this song when I first heard it but now I like it a lot. It's a bit of a shame that you're listening to random tracks instead of the full album. For Scott particularly, I think you'd get so much more out of it if you sat down a listened to the whole album through some good headphones. It really is pretty special IMHO.
Agreed. Didn't love it at first, but like it much more now.
It’s such a solid album. I bought it on vinyl for that reason. Start to finish kind of album
The Same is really good too. Haunting.
Loved the raw gut punch that this track provided when it first appeared.
The Smoke (previously suggested) or Skrting on the Surface (former Radiohead track) would be my next tracks to visit although I’m starting to think it’s time for you to bite the bullet and listen to the album as a whole.
As for the request, I really would like to see a reaction to Foo Fighters (Hey, Johnny Park! Or Rope) or Royal Blood - "Typhoons" or "Out of the Black".
As for The Smile, this is the staff which you have to get used to. You know all the components in separate, but when they come together, they make you feel so unusual. The Smile is really unique because it's just different. Even when you hear the same old Thom's voice, Johhny's play, Together it gives you different emotions
I really liked this the first time I heard it. It’s my favorite The Smile song so far. I need to listen more.
Very excited
The Smile play here in Pittsburgh soon
I guess this will be the closest radiohead comes to Pittsburgh since 1997
Amazing song
I don't always watch the 15th floor but when I do I like what I see! Also remember that youtube have "seasons" like winter and a summer. I don't know how it works but sometimes are better for growth and sometimes people seem to watch less youtube
That sound in the back isn't a recorder or flute, it's a saxophone and he's just peaking the register on purpose. It might be worth doing a session watching the recent live takes on Tiny Desk or KEXP for some The Smile songs. It's a totally different experience watching them at work while listening.
Nice. Try Speech Bubbles!
Yes, my favorite
Punchdrunk lovesick singalong 😎
I already asked decades ago. Perhaps you and me are the only two who want it.
Rob we have to will this request into existence 😂
I think it's his taste
*Viewer Request* The Flaming Lips - the Spark That Bled
Now I've already made peace with the idea of never getting another radiohead album. I have a pretty wild loose theory and I'll tell you later. But if the smile is the new normal I'm definitely happy regardless if RH releases
I have a feeling there will be another. Might be a couple of years from now, but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere a month or two ago one of them saying they weren't done just yet.
This was my first listen and I liked it. It reminded me of a modern punk style. I haven't bothered to get into The Smile and I don't think i'm missing anything special.
Worth the listen
Is this song about Harvey Weinstein?
