Ahh The Strokes. The band that allowed me to really find my place in the music sphere and expand my taste, which eventually lead me to the joy I have for Radiohead today. When this album first came out I really enjoyed it but didn't think it came close to some of their older releases(and it's very different too). But now a few years later, it's probably my favourite. I don't know if it's because of where I was in my life back then or what, but now I feel this nostalgic feeling over this album even though it fairly new. My favourite track of the album is "Eternal Summer", it's such a banger.
I recommend any of the following The Strokes songs: 1. Trying Your Luck 2. Take It Or Leave It 3. What Ever Happened? 4. Reptilia 5. You Only Live Once 6. Vision of Division 7. Ize of the World 8. Chances (downer) 9. Call it Fate, Call it Karma (kinda downer) 10. Selfless (downer) 11. At The Door (downer) 12. Not The Same Anymore (downer) 13. Ode To The Mets (downer)
I discovered The Strokes after Radiohead. Two or three years later, just before the album this song is from was released. For me their discography quickly fell into my “very decent” category, assuming I have mental categories for artists, just below the likes of Radiohead, Jeff Buckley & Pj Harvey. Do they have any downers? Certainly. “At The Door” from the same album is a great example. The lead singer also has another project called “The Voidz” and on their debut they had a track called “Human Sadness” which is one of the most beautiful songs I know. Quite long as well. I’ll recommend some more stuff down the line. I was at a festival last summer in which I heard both The Smile and The Strokes. Unfortunately their concert was a little all over the place, unlike The Smile’s, but oh well.
Their first album 'Is this it' doesn’t have a single misstep. The new abnormal is their best newer album. Check out The Voidz 'Human sadness' if you want Julian Casablancas's Paranoid android.
Good video! To answer your question The Strokes are from New York, their first album came out in 2001. This is from their most recent album, which was amazing (the song Ode to the Mets is a must and a downer), but their first three album are proper classics. I really would recommand listening to anything from their first album Is this it (personal favourits : The Modern Age, Barely Legal, Alone Together, Trying your Luck), from album Room on fire you could listen to songs like Reptilia, Whatever happened, 12:51, The end has no end... and from their third album First impressions of Earth songs like You only live once, Heart in cage, Vision of Division or Ize of the World. If you're looking from some live performance I would say that any performance from the year 2006 is amazing
It’s fun to watch you boogie while listening. LOL! I actually really love this song and love listening to the Strokes often. (And, yes, this is a well-known Strokes song. Even my 16 year-old son knows it.) I understand your son’s comment that Julian’s way of singing reminds him of Radiohead. When he’s singing, “Don't go there 'cause you'll never return…(etc.)” there is a similar tone quality (maybe a little nasally with forward placement, mixed in with a tiny bit of growling/gravelling, too… Then there’s the falsetto! And of course, the closeness to the mic, which you talked about…), as well as similar musical intervals (descending minor 3rd and then diminished 5th, and - of course - others) that we have heard Thom sing. (Don’t make me name a song. LOL) But you even said this song reminds you of Keane, so keep in mind how Keane reminds many people of Thom. 😊 So you almost agreed with your son there… I agree with your mention of the momentum happening in the song. (Was that a robot dance you just did? A robot typing? LOL!) I wish I could hear what you guys are saying at 7:52… It makes me happy that you enjoyed this song. You asked what other Strokes songs you might like: Reptilia, You Only Live Once, The Modern Age, Someday, Automatic Stop, and Hard to Explain, are a few I’d recommend. Slower/moodier examples: Call it Fate, Call it Karma, Is This It, Under Control… But none of their slow songs will satisfy or remind you of slow/moody Radiohead. The reasons I love the Strokes: very good melodies that sound like they took an effort to create, interesting harmonies, an extra effort to go beyond standard rock-n-roll chord progressions, the passion in the music, and their solid rock sound. (Ooh, now you are dissin’ the music of the 80s! I think there is a lot of good music from the 80s. But I guess as I think about it, there is also a lot of crap. I would like to hear your list of 80s artists that you are thinking of when you talk about “fake” and “phony” - besides Devo.) Thanks for creating another fun video to watch and think about!
Not listened to The Strokes for 20 years. Only for the last minute or so of the track I would have realised it was The Strokes (especially vocally). Saw them at Leeds Festival in 2002 whilst Julian Casablancas was on crutches. Anyway, it was a welcome listen!
I've been suggesting the Swedish band Kent before and I'm well aware that they're probably way too obscure for you to make a reaction video on, but in the late 90's they were called the "Swedish Radiohead" and they have some really depressing alt.rock-tunes (in other words good songs). Most their songs are in Swedish, but they have two English albums too. Check them out, at least. I would recommend the songs The King is Dead, Music Non Stop, Heavenly Junkies, If You Were Here, Things She Said and 747 (We Ran Out of Time).
5:17 if you listen to Ode to the mets it’s Julian Casablancas going full Keane, in an awesome way That said, your channel are great. Radiohead are my favourite band too, and I encourage you to listen more for the Stroke. Some of they’re stuff is really good. The first album, the second, and the last one are near must-ear for every Radiohead fan. Lyrics are good too PS I would like to propose an artist to hear: Sparklehorse. Mark Linkous is on thom Yorke’s brain level
I highly recommend doing Climbing Up The Walls for your next Radiohead one. And for you’re next non Radiohead I recommend Manny by Ball Park Music, it sounds a little like some of Ok Computer but with an almost surf rock touch, easily one of the best Australian songs to be released in the last few years
If you're looking for a downer either listen to At the Door or Ode to the Mets both of which are absolutely stellar songs from TNA. Btw ode to the mets has nothing to so with the baseball team.
Great band, yet I had never heard this (pretty solid) song, or much of the more 'recent' albums - I just unplugged after the first two killer, very consistent albums. For new listeners , I'd continue with: Someday What Ever Happened? You Only Live Once Keep listening, guys, thanks 👍🏻
/Fun watch. Wish you let your son elaborate on his thoughts a little more before injecting with your "superior" thought. But hey, we live and we move on. 9/10
They don’t have a bad album. My second favorite band.
You made me curious to check them out this song sounds amazing
I'm curious. Who's your first?😏
first impressions of earth, sry.
@@tiagotedesco2429 nope great album, give it a few more listens.
Every album is different but none bad

Id say the same!, The strokes introduced me to a completely new community.

lol are you alex turner?
We want more 'the strokes' reaction
Btw but the strokes are the greatest band of all time. Lol
The Strokes is a very good band, but I think you all would like the first few albums more. My absolutely favorite ear worm is "Reptillia."
for new listeners i would recommend Ode to the mets from the recent stuff & Hard to Explain from the early stuff
definitely
can't believe u guys only have 700 subs, great content as always!

If you do The Strokes , you gotta do Interpol too :)) they're a package deal in my eyes
Their first album 'Is this it' doesn’t have a single misstep. The new abnormal is their best newer album. Check out The Voidz 'Human sadness' if you want Julian Casablancas's Paranoid android.
Please listen to "trying your luck" by The Strokes it's a good jam

Would love to hear more sometime! my fav band
I like the left guys energy lol that literally me every time I hear this song. It’s hard not to dance along lol😂
Ok, but Hell still slaps. Only one I’ve ever heard actually
Possibly the best vocal example from The New Abnormal .
Selfless is probably best vocal example

Also listen to human sadness by the Voidz if you want unimaginably sad (the lead singer's other band).
the strokes r so good pls do someday

Radiohead is my favorite band of all time, but the Strokes are a close second! Thanks for this
Muito legal. Strokes são uma lenda. Diferente da maioria das outras bandas. Autênticos. Isso vale muito.😊
This album is insane, i heard blur have a new album too
At The Door is a really good song AND A DOWNER, so i do think it´s worth reaction to that one too.
Would love to hear more Strokes reactions! Check out Ode To The Mets or At The Door
Catchy song.
I highly recommend doing Climbing Up The Walls for your next Radiohead one.

Btw ode to the mets has nothing to so with the baseball team.
Please do Periphery - Absolomb! Preiphery is a well known band in the metal community and have some really unique instrumentation.
This is a classified world wide yapper
I probably said it before but you should react to " The Spark that Bled" by The Flaming Lips
Great band, yet I had never heard this (pretty solid) song, or much of the more 'recent' albums - I just unplugged after the first two killer, very consistent albums. For new listeners , I'd continue with:
Someday
What Ever Happened?
You Only Live Once
Keep listening, guys, thanks 👍🏻
A Reaction to Selfless, amazing song.
You have to react to Nude by Radiohead. Its a masterpiece.
8 is a fair score. The Strokes are from NYC.
react to more strokes
/Fun watch. Wish you let your son elaborate on his thoughts a little more before injecting with your "superior" thought. But hey, we live and we move on. 9/10
Selfless by the strokes, thats kind of a downer
I feel like you only live once and reptilia are classics from the strokes
The Strokes 🤯>>>>>>> Radio Head 🥱
