I'm surprised you haven't heard of them. They were THE American rock band of the early 2000s. My mom got to see them with the White Stripes at Irving Plaza when they were just getting big. They just won their first grammy for their most recent album, which was long overdue. Definitely check out the first two albums cause they're fantastic
You know, I always saw it as the opposition between the new and the old generation. One of them has this perfect almost robotic execution, the other is grungier and feels more emotional. Feels like a lot of social discourse between "left" and "right". Listening to the SNL live version provides this political background that I cannot dissociate from neither the lyrics nor from the instrumental.
My guitar teacher taught me the Strokes track "12:51" during my first guitar lesson. Must've been 2008 or something. Loved 'em ever since. Phenomenal songwriters! Casablancas is a master of melody.
This is awesome man. Seeing someone discover my favorite band for the very first time is so cool. Loved the vid, please listen to/react to some more Strokes songs. You’ve gained a new sub here
I have been listening to The Strokes for 20 years, but this song, and album, snuck up on me. If happened to see them performing it live on TV, otherwise, I might not have known about it, at least for a bit. Great song.
My absolute favorite band in the world but I would also suggest The Voidz (very experimental) I think you would like their music as well, but I think you should listen to Human Sadness first as it will tell you everything about that band all in one song. You don't have to worry the lyrics or music videos as they have a lot of meanings and stories so it takes a long time to interpret (been a fan of The Strokes and all their solo projects for about 16-17 years now and still haven't been able to deconstruct all the lyrics!)
@@jesrush it’s definitely a good song strangely I don’t have comedown machine that& the new abnormal question have u heard of Hawaii? Another one of their songs quite an island track if I must say
Actually the Strokes are now the adults with kids and everything. They also broke up, did some solo stuff. Fights fueled by drugs and alcohol. Then Rick Ruben producer brought them back together for this LP. Perhaps then he is referring to now that they are sober, they're talking again...all grown up. Ruben is much older...lol so your analogy was cool.
Oh forgot lol BUT Julian is divorced and to me it sounds like he's talking to his kids also. "I know you think of me when you think of her" overall I think he's just trying to feel grown up when he's made so many mistakes. I can relate. He needs some atta boy and understanding from his kids, but then again he is who he is, the band are who they are (last lines)

The first time i heard it it blew me away my fav from the new abnormal
for me it's more than a year now lol
make it almost 2 years for me now 😭
bro same LMAO the opening riff lives rent free and barges in without asking
The adults talking are the guitars, the way they're woven together
The adults are in your left and right headphone, conversing
So stinking awesome! Thanks for that info....I felt it!
No bruh. Ok adults want you to act and do how they say. Sorta like a robot. The adults are talking so you gotta listen to them

Duuuude I had the same reaction the first time I heard that falsetto... like, eyes closed, and that feeling that all you can say is “yeaaaaaah”

Look for the SNL cut of this, they add another verse and it's amazing.
“Interesting, I don’t know what The Strokes is”
