- Going through the Radiohead discography was easily one of my most fun journeys through music I have ever had. Therefore I was extremely excited to hear that Thom and Johnny along with a new face for me Tom Skinner had decided to create a new side project under the name "The Smile" I am aware their new album "Wall of Eyes" has just released but I knew I wanted to check out their debut album "A Light For Attracting Attention" first. Also am making some changes to the studio space so please bear with me as I work through some teething issues with lighting etc.
My name is Jack and I love music, in particular Hip Hop, I decided to make this channel as a way to engage with other music lovers and because there doesn't seem to be a lot of reaction channels on RUclips...My goal has always been to be open to all types of music regardless of my love of Hip Hop, on this channel you can expect a rich array of genres. If you're keen to join me on my music journey then please subscribe, if you ever want to give your thoughts on an album or song that I have reacted to, then please do. I want this channel to be a community and if you love music of any genre then welcome!!!

It's always a good day when Jack explores the Radiohead Extended Universe 👌
I think it's easier to enjoy The Smile without comparing it to Radiohead. Just grateful that Johnny and Thom are making music together.
No h
Agreed - no need to compare. I listen to Yorke's solo stuff interspersed with the Smile and Radiohead. It's one body of work.
I don’t think Thoms solo stuff is as good. Atoms for peace on the other hand…
really ? as much as I love AMOK Anima or The Eraser both beat it for me
@@aryathedryad amok is miles ahead of the eraser.
The Radiohead multiverse is my favorite multiverse.
People say Thom and Jonny started the smile to have an excuse to play bass 😂, in all seriousness, this album is great, Free in the Knowledge is my personal favorite off it, but their new one is absolutely phenomenal. Be sure to also check out Thom’s solo albums! And maybe amok by atoms for peace. Love the videos as always!
On a side note, hope you’re still planning on finishing arctic monkey’s discography, also anticipating Animals by Pink Floyd. Anyways have a great rest of your day and keep it up!
Love you lovin’ Radiohead and The Smile and can’t wait for your reaction to The Smile wall of eyes album.
I’m waiting patiently !
Loved this album, but wait until you hear "Friend of a friend" from their new album 🔥
my favourite song from the new album!!
@@vicho_8508, or "Bending Hectic". or "Teleharmonic"
Yeah! On first listen, Under Our Pillows & Friend of a Friend were my two favourites
@@Arawn505 love the first half of Under Our Pillows, not a big fan of the Beatlesy psychedelic ending. Teleharmonic and Friend of a Friend would be my top 2.
Bending Hectic, I Quit, Friend of a Friend and You Know Where are my favourites
Speech bubbles is so sublime. That, and Panavision. I still think Panavision would be a great James Bond theme. Thanks, man, for another great, in depth review.
_Spectre_ would have been, too! 😉
@@SelenaSea 😉👌👍🏼
they used it in peaky blinders
@@NotFourResale I've heard but never seen Peaky Blinders. Does the song work well with the scene?

My God I forgot how good this album is, thanks for reminding me Jack. Great reaction!
I love how evidently you register the inspired moments on this record, like the coda of Speech Bubbles.
I love this album. It’s really varied and really shows what this band is capable of. Wall of Eyes is crazy fucking good though.
Agreed. WoE is like a more refined ALFAA. The latter has higher peaks, but the former is more consistent.
@@danielplainview2584 i think they have equal peaks and no real lows just the track listing is a bit more cohesive on wall of eyes. ALFAA is still a spectacular album.
Best reaction channel by far IMO
Such a great album... but prepare yourself for Wall of Eyes.. Can't wait for that reaction.
ALFAA is to Hail to the Thief, as Wall of Eyes is to In Rainbows.
Their newest album is even better :) thanks for the upload, gonna watch that later!
I am going to see the Smile live for the first time in March, excited is a understatement.
Me too, Alexandra Palace, London in March. Enjoy every moment! 😊
Saw them in 2022. They're so accomplished that the songs are even better when performed live. _Wall of Eyes_ is a masterpiece.
Amsterdam in March ❤️
Woohoo been waiting for this upload. Glad you liked it, Wall of Eyes is a lot more cohesive in my opinion. Great to have you back and had a fab holiday
Open the Floodgates is my absolute favourite!
I was lucky enough to see The Smile a few times. I remember thinking during Open the Floodgates and Free in the Knowledge that I was truly witnessing greatness.
one of the best reaction channels out there!
A Hairdryer is my personal fave
Some of these songs were Radiohead songs. Open The Floodgates was a song that was written during the In Rainbows era, they played it live a few times, but no official recording until this. And Skirting On The Surface was also a Radiohead song, first surfacing live during the The King of Limbs era, and was very different from what we got here.
Saw them live and was blown away!! Also, I can't wait until you listen to Thom's solo work!
Been waiting on this one!
Really think this album is up there with Radiohead's best work. Cinematic, moody, atmospheric, hypnotic, mesmerizing. It's all included in so many songs on this album. Thanks again for such a thoughtful reaction.
keep it up JACK! 😊
Yes Jack! Delighted you got to listen to this one. We all knew you'd like it lol. This album gets better the more you listen to it as well, Tom Skinner brings something very different to Philip Selway on the Drums and it’s amazing the difference it makes. Almost as if it's a different band...lol. It's an interesting evolution showcasing Thom and Johnnys experience in Film soundtracks, their work so far with Radiohead and mixed with the Jazz style of Tom on the drums. Interestingly, for me anyway, a lot of it linked back to Kid A/Amnesiac with the wind and string instruments. Almost as if there was an itch they still had to scratch and could do that now they have a drummer with Tom's background. In many ways the Jazzy feel on the drums gives it a warmer tone than a Radiohead album generally is. Also, somehow more chaotic!
Love it, man! So many great insights on such terrific music. Looking forward to Wall of Eyes! :)
I'm glad you liked it. The songs where there is a lot going on are the ones that will grow in you the most. A hairdryer is fire!!!
Wait till you listen to Bending Hectic...
so true, Thin Thing, A Hairdryer and Waving a White Flag are my favourites
True! ❤ _Thin Thing_ is incredible. Love the whole album but _Thin Thing,_ _A Hairdryer_ and _Speech Bubbles_ are my favourites. _Bending Hectic_ is epic! 💥
Finally!!! 🎉🎉 Thank you for your reaction.)
You must do a reaction off Wall of Eyes new album
ufffffff, como amo ese álbum. verlos el año pasado en vivo fue de las experiencias mas mágicas y hermosas que he vivido
Some of these tracks took a few listens to click with me but now I enjoy the whole album. (Similar to how some RH songs had to grow on me. ) There are days when I can’t get enough of the lovely Free in the Knowledge, I want it on endless loop. Thx for another great honest, warm and insightful reaction.
Awesome reaction..
Also, you're gonna LOVE "Wall Of Eyes" 👌🏼
🎉yay! Ive been waitjng🎉
Beautiful reaction, Jack! I love how they've reached such mastery but retained their childlike curiosity and openness to experiment. It leaves them so free to bring us this wildly creative and ambitious music - and more of those transcendent moments (🤩 @21:57, @34:31) Thanks for sharing your passion for great music. We appreciate you!
Are you going to be listening to the new Wall of Eyes album at some point too?
Listening to this album again after a year these already feel like classics
Wall of eyes album is really going to be a treat. Can't wait to see what you think of some of those tracks
Basically mirroring my first listen to The Smile, unsure but blown away, I'm now most looking forward to your Thom Yorke solo reaction, The Eraser is epic, great stuff Jack, keep up the good work son!
Legend, thank you!
Welcome back, man! You’ve been missed😊
Love the video! I think that you should react to black midi, more specifically Hellfire. They have a chaotic energy and I think they are a very promising band.
Great album if you get the chance you should listen to Radiohead's OK NOT OK album some great tunes on that.
I couldn’t see it mentioned but “Skirting on the Surface” and “Open the Floodgates” are older Radiohead tunes sound-checked or played live.
Please react to Boa - Duvet album!
Brilliant reaction! Can't wait to see "Wall of Eyes" album reaction. 'Cause imo Wall of Eyes sounds better than A light for attracting attention.
yes!! great reaction, i love this album so much so many brilliant songs. you should check out their new album, as i assume you will. they've already progressed so much
Jack the new The Smile album is oooooouuuutttttt 😂, stay safe
You should definetely do the new one
You did it! Nice one fella :-)
yeah i think i like this one a lot more than the new one, just a lot more songs that i absolutely love and i come back to regularly
Please listen to ed ed O’brians new solo album. I think you’d really enjoy it. Phil’s first album is also very good. You should do those before thins solo stuff
I heard this album first time in march 2024 and instantly bought it on vinyl next day.
YESSS
I can’t compare them. They’re all so beautiful.
👍👍👍
I really love watching your reaction on Open The Floodgates and Free In The Knowledge. Definitely my personal favs on the album.. You should check Open The Floodgates KEXP version tho. It's a much better version🔥
…and you haven’t experienced Bending Hectic yet 😮😂
You should really listen to AMOK Atom for piece also a side project from Thom York Radiohead-producer Nigel Godrich, the Red Hot Chili Peppers-bassist Flea, the drummer Joey Waronker and the percussionist Mauro
Odyssey of an old dream - matchpoint 🔆
Wait till he hears the new Smile album..
Albums you should reach next:
Twin fantasy - Car seat headrest
Close to the edge - Yes
0 - Ichiko Aoba
Heaven or Las Vegas - The cocteau Twins
Well I’ll answer your question, no. But they are great.
23:09 I guess you could say... everything's in its right place
The kick in The Same is actually in beat 1
Of course it's not. But the Smile is a very very good band indeed.
react to the smile - wall of eyes pls
The Same is supposed to sound like a heart beat monitor. Think about it. The synth is the beeps, the kick is the heart pumping.
how has this man not listened to Wall of eyes yet
Please react to sleep token
So so so happy to explore Smile alongside you Mr Caveman Jack. I had no idea Thom had released music since AMSP.. ❤
still prefer this album over their recent one, there are just too many bangers on this.
This one much more robust like kid a new one is quite intricate like tkol. I enjoy the new one more simply because it is very brief and we get to hear how a new producer handles it
@@isleofskye8073Wall of Eyes, Teleharmonic, Bending Hectic and I Quit are fucking amazing. But TKOL feels more complete than WOE to me, I was just left wanting more of this new project but I still dig it
AESOP ROCK - SWFG!!
mmmmottthhheerrrrfffffffuuuuuuuukkkkkkeerrrrr!!!
Ive avoided the smile , daft but I feel disloyal
I didn't want to believe it was as good as it is for some weird reason so I get it. But man, please do yourself a solid and dive directly into it. Thom and Jonny don't miss. And Tom Skinner absolutely kills it.
The awnser. Is. No.
A Light for Attracting Attention is an average-quality Radiohead album, which makes it a full-on historically important piece of music.
And the new album "Wall Of Eyes" is way better than this first one.
Better THAN***, not better then.
Hahaha ooops
It’s a good album, but it ain’t as good as the first Smile album. Way better tunes on first album.
Emphatically. NO.
