A friend had a Charvel like that he bought around '87. It was white with a rosewood fretboard and had this rare Kahler that looked like a smaller version of the Spider. Because he set it flush it always stayed in tune. Great shred stick. It had a stock ceramic Jackson/Charvel pup that sounded great, a bit more like a Duncan Custom ceramic SH-5. Although over the years I've grown to love the Full Shred and Custom 5 the most out of all of Duncan's pickups.
Man! Great informative video 40! I love those early Charvel graphic guitars. The bullseye and the candy striper are still my favorites. They are so iconic and so identifiable to the eighties. So badass! It was a exciting time for music back then MTV was definitely part of it. The installation of the brass block was very helpful. I’m pretty sure I’ll get another guitar soon and not huge fan of trems but so many cool Charvels out there and if I block it no big deal. Thanks man your channel is the best!🔥
The Duncan Custom 5 is the best of the Custom line and for me far more preferable to a JB. It has the perfect amount of output and more clarity. The harmonics are also insane. You can run the gamut with that pup from 70s classic rock to 80s metal to more modern stuff.
Are you measuring action at the last fret? 3/64th is pretty low. How straight is your neck? I see you checking the "bounce" on the strings but how much bounce? :)
Last fret. Suhr standard was 4/64 at last fret. Action for me depends on radius. It’s all feel. As is relief. I like just a touch of bounce. It’s all preference.
@@40gritguitars Thanks! so I just setup a couple of my guitars, a Kramer '84 with a 12" radius and a Jackson RR24Q with a compound 12 to 14" radius. The necks are straight as an arrow and you are right, the Jackson played better where as the Kramer had a few notes around the 9 to 13 frets sound a little muffed. Had to raise it a little to clear that up.
Great Review 40 Grit🤘🏼Very Cool Guitar
Thanks Mikey!

Nice guitar, I love these Charvel guitars.
Me too! Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching.
I buy 3 Titanium hex machine screws ( lowes or Home Depot) when I replace my blocks
I was unaware that they are available at Lowe’s or Home Depot! I’ve been paying Adam….. thanks Kurt!
@@40gritguitars Adam does have them, these are the three screws that hold the block onto the baseplate - the ones under the saddles
Congrats on the custom 5 pup.
I've got o e here and it's fantastic for crunchy riffs.
My favorite Duncan! Thanks for your comment.

I agree…. Custom 5 is my favorite Duncan. The full shred was Vivian’s pickup I believe.
