Thanks for checking out my channel!
I am a 23 year United States Navy Chief (retired). I have been building guitars since 1995. I apprenticed under Bill Zolla of Zolla Guitars in San Diego, Ca from 1995-2004.
From 2011-2015 I had the privilege to work for John Suhr as a production supervisor under Fender Master Builder Mike Ponce. Working alongside Master Builder Kenny Gin and Master Builder Jay Madore, I was groomed by the greats. It was a great opportunity and worked with some fantastic people.

Amazing that you found that gem all these years later, and even cooler that you are still in touch with your buddy who bought it all those years ago. I love when things work out like this!
I'm ripping this off. Thanks
My pleasure!
Nice - what kind of cover is on the spring cavity? I haven't seen that type before. Potential streaming show idea: pedal/amp/signal chain tone?
These are the covers supplied by the builder. I don’t like rear spring covers so I cut them down to keep it looking right. Good idea on the chain! I can surely do that! Thanks so much for watching.
I don't think I've ever seen a brown guitar that makes the brown sound. ;) Great job 40!
Hi Holly! Thank you and thanks for checking it out! Did you frame your EVH poster??
Sounds killer! That guitars got it all! Thanks for the walk around 40!🔥👍🏻
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
Don't hurt 'em Lou!
He’s a beast of a player and a great guy. Thanks for watching!
I will watch all your videos.
Thank you so much! I appreciate you being here!
Cool axe, 40 Grit. Two springs. Got 9’s or hybrid gauge sets on that bad boy? I love your choice of music with your vids. 🎸🤘🏼👍🏻
Thanks Luis! 009-.042 on this one, half step down. Thanks for watching!
You remember who you got the body from on EBay? Nice axe!
Pcguitars
Super Cool build sounds great, when I get around to swapping blocks on my Frenchie I def want to try that blocking method with the wood for the Trem.
Yea, IMO it’s the only way to do it right! Thanks for watching!
Should you ever consider selling this, please reach out! Many thanks
Man, I should just do brown builds! Thanks for you comment and for watching!
I noticed that you didn't replace the block with a brass one. Is the one that came with it good enough. Many replace it. I put a 32 brass block on my Jackson js32 dinky.
Good eye! Not my guitar, he did not request the upgrade. I usually replace them but I’m sure they are fine with what they have. Thanks for watching!
I have a bunch of Mr Scary pups in guitars. They sound and feel amazing to play. Interesting, I have an HSS set of scarys that measure at 6.1k each as opposed to the 5.9 neck bridge set match. I will install them into something one day. Yours sound great!
Thanks! I have several seeing that Lynch leaves things frequently. I wanna have a stock of these in case Arcane stops doing them. Thanks for your comment and for watching!
Gorgeous stain on the body. There is something about natural looking finishes that makes me look twice. Nice axe.
That’s rattle-can brown sir. Super thin coat. If you can paint in a booth you can paint with a rattle can. Thanks for the compliment and for watching!
@@40gritguitars It looks stained from the video. Love it. Very nice job. I paint cars for a living and live in a booth 😆
Reminds me of Tony Iommi's brown SG. Very nice job.
Nice!!!
Thank you!!
This is the stuff I love!!!! Built by, played by, customized by.......pure passion under 6 strings. Every relic mark is personalized, pick up selection, turners and tremo (with d-tuna). Guitar that demands to be played. I saw some faded cut scenes in the video so that means you forgot you were recording because it demanded to be noodled. If I got the chance to play on any of your guitars........this is the one I would ask to play.
Thanks!! Great compliments there. A very passionate build. The demo just kept going… it got a little long so I cut it up. Funny that you noticed that… if you’re ever in Phoenix she would love to be noodled on. Thanks for watching!
Man 40 Grit your channel rocks. Warren's one of my favorite players of all time. Hope to meet him one day.
Thanks Bryce! Warren is one of the nicest guys. Will chat with you and answer questions. He even makes sure you look both ways when you cross the street (true story). I hope you get to meet him. Surely one of the most underrated players of the 80’s. Thanks for watching!!
@@40gritguitars Wow. That is awesome. They say never meet your heroes but sometimes they turn out to be wonderful people too and I'm happy to hear it!
He surely was a great meet.
THANKS !!! I love it !!! Gives me real inspiration on a old project. Time to pull it out again ... I am assuming you reliced the pole pieces yourself ?? The destressing looks great !!! 👍👍
The pickups came reliced…. They are the wartorn option from arcane. Get your build out bro! Time to finish it!!!!
Looking forward to finishing my project and showing you buddy!
Yea man! Let me see it as soon as it’s done…
Crazy guitar 🤘🤯🔥
Thanks Felipe!!
Nice build! And killer song choice \m/
Thanks! One of my favorite Dokken tunes. Thanks for watching!
I’d take it. I really like it. If you ever want to get rid of it, I would be interested
That’s a great compliment! Not for sale at this time but there’s always a time to roll some guitars. Thanks for watching!
I have a similar build. I got the alder body from eBay as well and have a warmoth flamed baked maple neck. I originally tried to do a sparkle blue finish and the clear coat didn't dry correctly so I stripped it and just stained it brown with a light nitro finish. I've been wanting to get a hold of some arcane pickups. Those sound great.
Nice! I highly recommend the arcane. I really enjoy them in this guitar. Thanks for watching!!
Great build 💯
Thanks Mikey!!
Mike, I designed a Luxxtone with Jerry back in 2017 that is very reminiscent of this. I’ll send you a picture.
Oh cool! I would love to see it!
Would love to see it too !!! Maybe we can get a look at it on the show ... HINT HINT ...
I have your pics sir….
I have the pics if Garett wants to share…
@@TheDarrbord Ditto, I would love to see it too. I just bought a Luxxtone.
Awesome Build 40 Grit 💯
Thanks Mikey!!
Warmoth does have a 10-16 fretboard radius! Warmoth makes nice necks and bodies! Those pickups sound great! Thanks for sharing!
Yea maybe that’s what it was…. I knew it wasn’t 12-16. Thanks for the info!
@@40gritguitars love the guitar! Check out the video of my custom Sunburst tiger. The only custom guitar that I didn’t paint or build myself from scratch. I had the body and the neck made by Randy Butala in Canada. And I traded a Charvel star Guitar to my friend Mark at Guitar Guts in California for the paint job. I did all the rest of it myself. I was able to get lucky and get one of the last. “the hunter” pickups from Seymour Duncan for the bridge before they stopped making them. I have a Seymour Duncan little 59 in the neck position. I do have a few guitars with original Floyd tremolo, but I prefer the Gotoh 1996t, being that I am a woman and I have soft hands, and they are smaller, I like the way that it feels under my hand when I play. Because the saddles are contoured. Hope you’re having a good evening! Please check out my video and if you like it and like my other videos subscribe to my channel, I would appreciate it. Thank you. Been a subscriber to your channel for a while.! ☮️💜😊 ruclips.net/user/shortsNUhNTV_JzN4?si=T8-2r73uZ2pBIhhA
Cool! I tried the link and it isn’t working. I would like to see your guitar. The hunter pickup has been renamed the “exciter”. Same pickup. Share your channel with me, I would like to check it out. Thanks for watching!
@@40gritguitars thank you for the info on the Guitar, last time I called and spoke to MJ at Seymour Duncan, they didn’t have a new version made of the pickup. Although, it has been a while. Here is a direct link to my channel. m.youtube.com/@TarynnElizabeth619
@@40gritguitars Hey my friend I don’t have a RUclips channel but I do have many Warmoth guitar bodies and necks! I’m a huge fan of warmoth. Who built your bones guitar? I think the bones guitar is the best 80s guitar ever! Lynch is also an amazing player! I have two bones bodies built by monster garage. Chris woods out of Tennessee. Thanks for sharing my friend!
nice guitar, thank's
Thanks for watching!
bad ass.
Couldn’t make it! Our internet was out due to that hurricane here near east coast ! 40 🤘
No worries Ronnie! Take care of yourself, watch the replay and see you on the next one!
I’ve got a Frenchie and my quarter pound pick up is noisy as hell and I was wondering if yours is the same way ?
On clean and dirty?
Mike…I use 9-42 with 2 yellow F-U tone springs angled like yours…feels like butter👍
Nice! Lots of different ways to do it, lots of differences last night! Thanks for your comment and watching!
Do you live a middle class ameican life of exsess? How many guitars does one man need? Also.... Why is there a cardbord cut out of a random lady from the 1980s in the background? Its creepy.
Man, I don’t even know where to start on this one… thanks for watching!
@@40gritguitars 👍😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@40gritguitars …that cardboard “lady” looks a lot like Eddie Van Halen…hahahahahahaha🤣
😂😂😂
Impressive collection!!! All my 80s Heroes!! EVH, Lynch, Warren!! And many more! Those are the big 3 for me !Long live the 80s!! Thanks for sharing!! Who built your bones guitar?
Thank you so much! My bones is a CWG. Thanks for checking out the channel.
Great video. Does the volume knob just pop off? Looking to change the knob to a different one.
Yes it does. I changed this one to a plastic strat one…. like old school.
@@40gritguitars Thank you for your reply. It seems to come off easily at first but then it stops. Just use a little force after that? Im trying not to damage it. Thank you for your help. I have the same guitar. Trying to build an OU812 tribute.
@@40gritguitars Would you be able to make a video demonstrating on that guitar or one like it? Showing how it slides up easily at first then stops. Then just a little force?
I could! If there is no set screw then they just pull off. Sometimes they are on there pretty good.
Hopefully you will get more subscribers. Your videos are just you and your knowledge of guitars. They are real and not just sponcered.
Whatever happens…. Happens! Either way I am very happy with the channel. Thank you for watching!
Gorgeous
Thank you!
Hey, great video! How do you compare the neck to a Charvel Pro Mod neck? Is it closer to a Charvel neck or a standard Jackson D speed neck?
The Jackson feels more C to me. The Charvel is my preferred with a wide and flat feel.
I just got one of these! Curious how the tone block changed to tone of the stock one? Great info video, Thanks!
Yea that’s an upgrade that I do immediately unless it’s going to add more weight to a guitar that is heavier than I like already. There is a tone difference to me, and adds weight to a guitar that may be on the light side. I recommend!
@@40gritguitarsthanks!! 👍🏼 Mine sounds great after straightening the pickups to make them parallel with the strings. The fret work is not great on mine, the 11th fret is a little high causing some buzz.
Easy fix!
😍😍 Beautiful guitar!
Thanks! She is surely a keeper.
Cool guitar, they just want to much for a made in Mexico imo
Just saw one on reverb for $1250! Thanks for your comment.
The 1983 baretta originally came with a schaller paf style pickup. They switched to Duncan in 84. I bought one of these when they first came out after the ad.👍
Yes sir… they did! I will say that the 59 sounds really good in my reissue. They made a good choice. Thanks for watching!
Nice video. You know guitars and do a good job explaining the differences. You're real and not sponsored.
Thanks! I appreciate your comment and thanks for watching!
The godfather is the frankenstrat. Literally
Thanks for watching!
This reminds me of a similar model that Karl Sanders once played and probably still does despite using his Deans
Yea? I’ll check it out. Thanks for watching!
I think Randy’s tone with Ozzy was awful…and the Distortion + is the main reason.
It’s possible. I will never use that pedal. With an EVH I need nothing.
I really liked the single hum-bucker version, but that’s a great looking guitar.
Me too! If I could find one I would snag it up quick.
Now I see where Dime and Dino got the snake idea from for their guitars
It could very well be sir. Thanks for watching!
Where do you find these
Parts Charvel… sometimes you gotta piece em together. Thanks for watching!
@@40gritguitars ah
Great show
Thank you so much!
