I got out of prison in 91 and leaned into the HM Strats and still have 4 in the stable with the same kahler spyder. They do have the arm clutch on the inside to give the bar more play. If you do open it up you will need to lock tight the screw or it will move and the bar will be a wet noodle after 2 mins of eddie. The string locking bolts have an extremely small alan for them and aftermarket one have the notched so you can release them with a coin. I do really like how the system grabs the strings and never had a sting pop. Great video and thank you for posting up.
I purchased one back when I was eighteen now fifty one. Awesome guitar. I lived on top ramen noodles for a month to purchase a used on for $500.00. A few years ago and gave it to a kid that wanted to play guitar. 🤘
I had the BLUE 1989 version of that guitar. It was a monster and i remember it well. Wish i would have NEVER SOLD IT !!!! Dang it. Thanks for this video. Brings back memories of good times with a bad a$$ guitar. Great video Rock On
Good to see this one had the term sitting on the studs correctly. Seen far too many with ruined bridges from people trying to set the bridge on the studs (Floyd rose style)- they don’t realize on these Kahlers, the knife edge is on the stud and not the bridge. Cool guitar! Always wanted one
Nice looking axe 40. I saw a Vandenburg Fernanades on Reverb and I think they wanted $3500 for it. It was the one he plays in "Still of the Night " video. Killer looking!😍
Thanks for the walk around 40 Grit...love that headstock! I have to agree with you on the Kahler Spyder being way too stiff in feel, never could get one to feel loose..... I have numerous Tracers that share similar specs with the Vandenberg and I ended up replacing the Spyder with the Ibanez Edge and Lo Pro Edge bridges....
I had a non-trem Vandenberg with an anniversary marker on the 12th fret, and I sold it because of bad memories and who I bought from. Man, was that a mistake. That thing played like butter, and most people couldn't play it because it had no fret markers other that the 12th fret. Never had a guitar with action so low ever again.
Come to think of it when you drop your bridge using the whammy bar to make all the strings slacked. There is going to be an Allen screw at the end just behind it that will allow you to make the adjustment and it does have a Teflon tip on it so you can adjust the Treml to make it stay or go slack. Let me know if this helps.🤘
I bought an '88-'89 Vandenberg that was autographed by the man himself. The neck twisted on me and it was in the shop more than my home so I offed it for some rack gear.
im a sucker for hockey stick/ banana shaped headstocks. i used to not like them at first but then i learned to love the explorer even tho i didnt like that shape either at first. so funny how we change our tastes over time.
Yeah I’ve been buying vintage Peaveys I have a Tracer 89 Deluxe with a maple neck, a Nitro III custom and a Destiny on the way. Yeah I’m definitely going to get one of the Vandenberg reissues.
You can get the whammy bar loose if you put the bar in and pull down on it, there should be a set screw on the back of the Treml behind the where the whammy bar goes in to allow you to make the adjustment
@@40gritguitars Ah I see, apologies. I thought how could someone with such great tone and so many guitars think that a locking nut could be a TUSQ or plastic nut haha... I clearly wasn't paying enough attention. Cheers from falling apart Great Britain.
Great question! I like the retro nightswan with the R1 nut and full shred. Not a fan of the reissue nightswan. To choose between the 2…. I would probably take the nightswan.
I have a particular love hate relationship with those specific Kahler trems. The mass of them gives you a huge and great tone. But setups are always retarded. The strings will pull out while tuning up. Ive had 3 of them and they all did it. Im so jealous though. I used to salivate over his pink polka dot and black one. Congrats. P.S. Thats pretty light for that guitar.
I agree, I would rather it have a Floyd. I’m just more familiar with the Floyd. This may be the only Kahler that I have on a guitar. Thanks for watching!
This guitar ruined my technique totally. After playing this for 2 years, I really had to lear play a Strat from scratch. The Peavey just played by itself whereas I had to fight for every note on the Strat... But looking back, I loved this guitar and should have never sold it.
So, are you saying when you hear a guitar through an amp, you can tell if you’re hearing poplar vs swamp ash, or any other wood??? Or, are you talking about the weight of it?
Very cool! Adrian is still just as awesome today 👍
I think so… he’s awesome to this day!
thanks for the walk around 40..love these guitars...
My pleasure! Thanks for watching Mike!

I still have my 90 HM Strat. Great guitar.
I’m gonna check this out! Thanks!!

That was a very nice gift! Thanks for watching!!
Headstock is so sick.
Great video thanks
Happy that you enjoyed it! I have more coming… busy work week here.
What a piece of guitar history 💯 Nice job 40 Grit
Thanks Mikey!!

That’s bad ass!
That's a cool pìece! I had that Vanguard tape back in the day.
Thanks for watching!
I remember those being in stores. They had like 30 frets. Great looking git fiddle
Me as well sir. The old days when guitar stores were full of awesome guitars. Thanks for watching!

Yea, a bit tight for my liking but it’s a cool guitar!
My buddy had a pink one!! It was really nice!!
They are cool guitars! Thanks for watching!!

They do play great. Thanks for watching!
I have to say I love your Cannel, all the guitars you show are very cool. Keep ´em comming mate and you will reach 1000 subs in no time 😁
Thanks for watching!! I’ll do my best!

You’ve got so many great walkthroughs!!! Glad I found your channel. What’s your favorite shredder for 80s metal?
I have a soft spot for the Baretta. Thank you so much for watching!!

That was great white and white snake tour I graduated in 90'
The good ole days…. Thanks for watching!

I would like to have one as well…. But they are pricy!
@@40gritguitars
Compared to all other brands it’s a bargain.
Love that guitar and now they brought it back again, but I dont think I can get a lefty. I doubt they ever made any.
I bet you could get one!

@@40gritguitars Merica! A lot of years with guitars. 🙏🤘
@@40gritguitars please let me know if I’m full of shit. My memory is slightly fading.
The 2024/25 version is OUTSTANDING!!! Far more superior imho.
Yea I saw it at NAMM. Double edge sword IMO. Can’t go wrong with either. Cool guitars. Thanks for watching!
I bought a red one while in high school. It was great but I learned I’m not a trem guy, especially double locking.
I can visualize the neck so much better with the extra 2 frets. I know I’m goofy.
Makes sense!
I have a white one. Haven't played it in years though.
Yea mine doesn’t make it out very often either. It plays great! I should have it out. Thanks for watching!
😍
🔥🔥🔥🔥👍🏻
@@40gritguitars holy smokes I just looked at the reissues. Floyd rose, neck thru. Very nice.
Yea they did the new ones right!
How can it be a Tusq nut (or white plastic) if it has a locking bridge with steel locking nut?
I was referring the the SA-126 video. Not the Vandenberg. It was a correction.

You might want to look at that low e string it way to close to the edge of that fretboard..
Yea I addressed it in the video. I may fix it. Thanks for watching!
G o t o h tuners
Thanks for watching!
Is very similar to the peavey nitro
Yes it is!
The Kahler has to go, and the contoured body is 👎. The headstock is very cool.
Thanks for watching!
Sawp the body to swamp Ash or maple. I absolutely hate poplar. I have the Ibanez azes40. Wish I never got it. Poplar is is just horrible.
Poplar was popular during this time. Lots of the old Kramers are poplar. Thanks for your comment!
🙄
What bothers you about poplar other than its soft and dents easy?
So, are you saying when you hear a guitar through an amp, you can tell if you’re hearing poplar vs swamp ash, or any other wood??? Or, are you talking about the weight of it?
