- Here is the first drive video of upcoming Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara's AWD variant and we tested out the capabilities of this SUV on a off-roading track in Udaipur.
That slippery mud and axle twisting are the toughest, fwd cars won't pass those rest everything is doable. Anyway good job Maruti 👍 didn't expect this from one of the conservative manufacturers.
They are conservative manufacturer in India only . In most countries their most cars including kei cars gets AWD or 4WD
I dont think Maruti is a conservative brand..But they being a volume player just waits for the market to mature so that they can enter into a segment..But still Maruti already had OG Grand vitara which was a hard core SUV from 2003 and legendary Gypsy from 1986..So they are not new to the offroad scenario anyway..
Will scorpio n rear wheel drive do all this with bf good rich all terrain

Not really. I live in the hills. Here most of the Mahindra Jeeps are only two wheel drive. I have not seen anyone engaging 4 wheel drive for these scenarios. 4 H and 4 L are reserved for extreme off road set ups.

Quite impressive not a proper hardcore off-roader but it’s extremely good to have in the budget of 18 lakhs and will be handy during ladakh and manali trips❤️

@@jor_dj3522 as he already mentioned it's not a proper off roader like Thar. It's more like a mix of off roader and a comfortable vehicle. It's more versatile than Thar.

At 5:34, you mentioned it's full time 4WD and can't be switched to 2WD which is a wrong. It may not have dedicated 2WD mode but in auto mode, it will always be on 2WD mode and switch to 4WD if sensor feels so.
U can't switch from 4wd to 2wd or vice versa while the vehicle is in motion.
No it can't, only hybrid cars can do that because their awd works on hybrid motor and can vary power to the back, this is a traditional/actual awd setup, you can't change it to 2wd or adjust the power output to the rear without a differential which this does not have, there is direct axle running down to the rear wheels. It's a full-time awd setup
The last line in your explanation in itself means a full time AWD setup which is front biased!
00:53 the video seems it was cut/edited here because the front bumper touched the surface .
AWD is ok but this is a very lethargic engine - it probably won't give any good highway drives, and in the city, who needs 4X4!! Defeats the purpose with such a powerless engine.
0-100 is probably what , 16+ seconds??! Crazy to put such a low power/torque engine in a big car.
16+seconds? Brezza manual needs 12seconds to reach 100 this one will easily do in 13seconds. Hybrid variants also do in 12-13 seconds depending on the modes. These timings are inline with Creta/Seltos 1.5 petrol.

I saw somewhere Mild Hybrid which is also in AWD version doing 0-100 in 16 seconds. The figures I gave are not made-up figures.
It is an exceptionally bad car for mountains. Immediate acceleration is very tough on the same gears even on highways; downshifts are almost always needed. Check the performance part in the video below:

Uncle, this car is not meant for hardcore off-roading like what Gypsy/Jeep is doing. They didn't published any ADR values, It's an All wheel drive system( similar to Duster/Compass) that can help in some tricky situations where Fwd cars may struggle, they're just demonstrating how effective this system is.

Look at the bumper it should be more upright position, as ground cleareance is too low for it..
Most people will use this exclusively in the city so mainly designed for that purpose and to handle inclement weather situations but if a person desires they can put a set of bigger, more aggressive tires on it which will result in better ground clearance.

What you'll come to know? Search "Ecosport struggling to climb in muddy patch" Grand Vitara AWD will cross that with ease. Understand first it's an AWD system not an hardcore off-roader like Gypsy or Thar, AWD will help in some tricky situations where Compact SUV's and hatchback's struggles.

Maruti should have tuned this engine upto 180N-m of torque for the grand vitara.
NA engines work like a charm during off road driving but yeah should have got a little bit more powerful
it costs reliability of engine. That is the reason maruti and toyota cars have less power figures compared to competition for long term relibility.

Haven't seen a car as stunning as the exteriors are!! However, the interiors are a bit of a let down.
Interiors and dash board pannel are too elegant and cheap and not up to the level!, There must be a premium infotainment system, as compared to other economy variants in maruti!, Pls do check Jeep compass for premium 4 wheel drive vehicle!

Please review mild hybrid base model like Sigma & delta. I have booked the same.
Underpowered by 30-40 BHP. They should have gone all out on the AWD variant by offering the 1.4 booster jet. No one gets an AWD for fuel efficiency. Another opportunity wasted.
