AWD vs 4x4 Comparison | Ft. Jimny and Grand Vitara | Gagan Choudhary

- Namaste, a confusing topic which many car enthusiasts and buyers think about, “All wheel drive or 4x4, Which one is better? Are they even different in real life?”
In this video, that I shot during #MarutiSuzukiRocknRoad event recently, I took both types of SUVs to various patches including Ice, water and off-road to test.

I drove the Jimny in recent Snowfall in Manali, as regularly drive Gypsy and after driving Jimny in snowy & icy conditions of Winters I felt that Jimny is the true successor of Gypsy. It will take time to grow on oneself but definitely a better product of Maruti Suzuki.
Mind blowing, the way you have shown the potential of both the cars is outstanding.I have never seen a comparison like this. Hats off to you.

Culturally fine, cos the villagers didn't protest as this place was not holy, but I'm not so sure about ecology. The roads has a outer boundary marked with white stones which he crossed. The Trans-himalayan region is ecologically very fragile, and although it might look barren it supports a very unique biodiversity. Off-roading where we are not supposed to go, driving on river beds, crushing those juniper bushes doesn't help.
It was just a few days back when this curious question came into my mind about the difference between AWD and 4x4. I am very much thankful for this video explaining the basic difference between the two. Off-roading is definitely not an easy task, only experienced guys can do it.

4x4 is made for offroading
AWD is specially for glass like snow mostly given in normal cars in foreign
AWD is made for more stability on wet roads specifically on highways in rain

When you realise Maruti has 4x4 & and cars but 30L safari. doesn’t 4x4 leave it not even awd system People buying Mahindra Xub700 is best option.
Yeah. One more thing Japanese vehicles are light weight and always questioning/defame for build quality. ( Japanese 2 wheeler too, Yamaha etc) but it's light weight body good for these types of roads and people who live there. That's why you see gypsy, Jimny are mountain goat and that other 4x4 heavy cars are struggling.

When did you visited Spiti sir. I wish I could have met you. I am living here from last 6 months. It's an incredible place. We drive in these terrains in Bolero Camper 4X4, in water, on ice, on snow, on rocks and on tarred road too. Wish we could have done a meet up.

22:30 The Jimny has Brake Limited Slip differential in place of MLD. That has both pros and cons.

There are 3 things stopping me from getting this SUV.
1. Size - I am from middle class and can afford only one vehicle. So I want a SUV which can seat atleast 5 people comfortably with decent amount of boot space. ( If possible 7 seater).
2. Engine - The SUV Should have atleast 120+ bhp and 250nm + torque.
3. Much better interior with 6 speed TC Automatic.
I guess I'll have to wait for the Thar 5 Door or have to go with Scorpio N z4 4wd.
Why dont you go for a used compass or mux?
Force gurkha too can be an.option

1. Isuzu is the kind of company who treats INDIA as a dumping ground for their outdated models. They are selling us old models when the facelifts are already present in the global market. Also Lack of service network is a major issue.
2. Force Gurkha has a engine which is way too much under powdered and the interior is that of a commercial Truck missing a lot of creature comforts.
@@cyber._.Defender well i said used model. And the mechanicals are quite strong eith great off road ability. If you just want pseudo SUV you can buy anything today right from espresso to creta. None of it is even close to SUV. Scorpio N is plauged with too many niggles.
If service is a issue which isnt it as I know many who are getting timely service you may go for jeep compass too.
All other thing available are outright shit and just normal monocoque cars disguised as SUVs

Bro jimny me 4Low dalne se traction control off ka sign aa jata hai, that is the indication ki 4low lag gaya hai.
Also grand vitara ho ya jo bhi car ho, proper ice me ESP se kaam nahi banega, mechanical diff. lock is the only solution.
Also, ice ya snow me brake nahi marna chahiye, it's very risky, aur isiliye jimny ka BLSD useful hai kyuki brake marne ka zarurat nahi parta hai, BLSD aur gear se hi braking ho jata hai

GV will do everything what jimny can do easily, but where jimny hesitates GV cant attempt that stuff

Super useful review bro, leagues apart from your friend Mr FK who only likes expensive out of reach cars for most Indians. This is specifically useful for folks who regularly and eagerly want to travel on ice similar rough conditions just for funerals.

Grand Vitara, mh we don't have this car in Europe. What engine does this car have? it looks like it has pretty low end power, maybe the 1.5 naturally aspirated (the same as the Jimny but with no low range)? the 1.4 turbo is much better for climbing

Gagan bhai , yhan oxygen bhi kam hai , isliye ahi yhan kam power aa rhi hai dono car me , Vitara bar bar stall ho rhi hai , normal terrain par thoda better perform kregi because oxygen is must for fuel combustion...
feels like a bigger engine or a turbo would fix alot of jimny's and GV's problems.
Doesn't matter if you have a 4x4 or awd, till you have road tyres on them....

You will try with xl6. It's so good with off road driving.
Its not snow , its ice. These cars and tires are snow rated , they are equipped to deal with snow lattered on road. Not to do ice skating.
Sad that grand vitara does not come with automatic awd, I had made my mind to buy one if it was available.
