HI! In semi hydroponic it also works, the culture medium is leca and in another container the water, in this way of self-watering and you do not run the risk of the roots rotting in water but you do maintain constant hydration by capillarity
Hi Barbara, thanks for the thoughts! we do grow about 3 other phals in semi-hydro, but have problems with salts growing phals that way. you are right, it does work well, but just trying this method to see how it works!
Hi! New subscriber here. I am new to orchids and currently rescuing a phal using water culture. It had root rot and has only one root. I'm growing it on a heat mat and a couple of times a week I'm giving it a Black tea soak. I've got nubs I think of 2 more roots coming in. What is purpose of leca? To create humidity?
hi molly, thanks for joining us! if you've got roots on the way, then that's great! the leca can provide more surface area to help evaporate more water that's all. some people seem to use it, some don't. we are trying both. good luck with your rescue!
Hi I'm new here this video is going to help me a lot as i have 2 phals doing badly rubber leaves so im going to follow your info and try to save them.I have given the firs soak and leaving them for 2 days then another soak have i got this right any help would be mutch appreciated thanks so much 😊.
hello nick, welcome! for the watering on those, we usually fill the glass and soak roots for 8-24 hours, then let them dry out for 3 days, then soak again for 8-24 hours. so, in summary, water 2x per week. this has been doing ok in our conditions, depending on where you live and grow, you may need more soaking! best of luck, and stay tuned for some updates on those orchids soon!
@@nickooyman149 no worries! with 15 c in our las apartment we did lose a LOT of roots on our species phals...they seem to like it warmer...have a good one, nick!
