They gave Ultraman an origin before. The New 52 Ultraman's parents were criminals and when they sent him to Earth, Jor-El threatened him to become the strongest and rule the Earth. When he came ro Earth and the Kents found him or else, he threatens them and heat vision's one of John's arms off. Then he kills them both when they outlived their usefulness
Thats been retconned though that forever evil orgin and iteration of ultraman and crime syndicate for that matter is the best.

This Earth-3 is part of the new multiverse. The one from the Forever Evil storyline was much more of a messed up world.

I wouldn’t really treat the Justice Lords like a version of the Crime Syndicate, since they have opposite ideas and goals. And they exist as a separate Earth in the main DC multiverse.

I kind of enjoy this new take on the syndicate. In the sense that their still crime fighters, minus the typical morals the prime version holds themselves to.

I really enjoy this, just as we are feeling bad we are reminded he’s just as terrible. Still tragic, but I hope to see more out of these stories!

@Superboy Prime sure! i felt the parts where they included other members of the sydnicate, power ring, owl man etc, wasnt really needed, i feel like if they did a comic to introduce each one of them, even if it was a shorter comic, would help establish who they are, cause in all honesty we, the comic book readers, know these characters, but newer people who get this might not
@@JKohlbacher1221 With this being a short back-up feature they wouldn't really have time. They'll probably get flushed out throughout the actual mini-series.

I can't believe they haven't gone into the origins of the Crime Syndicate
They write out Ultramans speech as if he has an accent of sorts, which would make sense since he's from Kansas, and honestly the idea of an evil superman with a country accent is even more threatening

Crime Syndicate in Forever Evil was the best versions and I wish they didn’t change that, these guys seem more like the Earth-2 versions

I liked how Ultraman's paranoia was used. From his perspective, it's obvious but the thing about paranoia is that it makes people see threats that either aren't there or are exaggerated to be way worse. His adopted parents probably did love him but weren't educated enough in raising a super kid.

Yep. Even before that, 25 years before DC's Ultraman, All-American Comics created Ultra-Man(Gary Concord Sr.).

Forever Evil is probably one of my favorite stories in DC, including all the stories that came out of it. Arkham War was probably the best one.

It might feel like a 1990’s comic because it might be based on Grant Morrison’s 2000 graphic novel “Earth-2,” which very few people seem to cite when it comes to the Crime Syndicate. The title of the book may be confusing because it was set on the first post-Crisis on Infinite Earths parallel earth. Earth-1 was then called New Earth and the Crime Syndicate’s pre-Crisis Earth-3 was called Earth-2. It’s worthwhile reading.
For my money, the best version of the Crime Syndicate was in the animated Justice League series - the fights alone were amazing!

One thing I love in this book is all of the little annotations for Earth 3 comics that never existed. I love when all author's notes can be very tounge and cheek.

My favorite was the Crisis on two earth's giving him a mafia slant
That's the inherent issue with a series like this. Instead of just saying, "He's evil because this universe is inverted", it's instead saying "He's evil, _but only_ because this universe is inverted." What I mean is, the comic can't have its cake and eat it too. Ultraman can't live in a universe that makes him innately evil while also having a tragic backstory that justifies him being evil. It insinuates that if he was raised in the main DC universe, he'd be a good guy which is not the point of Universe 3
Even tho this origin created this possibility, I think it was made pretty clear that this Ultraman choose to be evil. In any other superhero story that snapping moment would be his call for justice and fighting for the weak.

I liked the previous origin for ultraman better. The Kent's were just horrible p.o.s and a homicidal space baby with god like power was like " You will take care of me humans or else.". Snorted kryptonite like cocaine for a power up lol it was nuts

I love earth 3 and the heroes and villains. To be honest I love the multiverse in comics because of the fun possibilities.
Heroclix had a set dealing with Trinity War and I ended up collecting all of the Crime Syndicate. Legit my favorite DC characters of all time.

The panel at 7:19 is definitely inspired by "Brightburn," and I also like that the street sign is Elm Street. Elm Street really is in Dallas, Texas, but also "Nightmare on Elm Street".
This comic (Crime Syndicate #1) made me like Ultraman. Yeah, he's evil Superman, but his whinyness and him being a manbaby is fun to read.
