If you don't like the color, just take the cooler apart and recolor the red parts to whatever color your heart desires and it'll look fucking fantastic.
This. I plan on painting my msi 980 white and blue.
MrNoodless It'll also void your warranty
MrNoodless Not quite as easy with these cards. Painting metal is not as easy as using something like vinyl paint on an ACX cooler.
Rambi Ninethousand Msi says removing the heatsink/cooler won't woid the warranty aslong as nothing gets broken in the process. (although i don't know what they think about changing the paint?) They seem somewhat flexible though..
Rambi Ninethousand warranty is for babies.
You know what I wish video editors and RUclips would allow? The ability to detect if a viewer is subscribed or not and play the corresponding video, so instead of "please subscribe" we would hear "thanks for being subscribed" a subtle but huge difference IMO.
Maybe even make quirky endings that only the subscribed users can see.
friedzombie4 I would love tools like that honestly!
friedzombie4 that would be awesome, but could possibly be abused with subscriber only content which would not benefit anyone.
***** clicking the subscribe button is not some daunting task. If they want to direct the better content to their viewers that are already subscribed then more power to them. All that it would change is that users would have to be slightly more active and therefore benefiting content creators.
to those who use Ad Block, there is an option in settings which allows you to whitelist specific youtube channels! so if you watch someones videos regularly then whitelist them! it will only show ads for there videos so that we can support the channels we love :) *****
excellent argument sir, i concede to your intellect
Nikhil Judge Ad Block Plus does not appear to have option(s) for this.
but i would absolutely whitelist certain RUclips Channels if i could.
***** Go to AdBlock Button -> Options.Enable Allow whitelisting of specific RUclips channels.Go to a RUclips channel or video from that channel and select "Whitelist this RUclips channel" from the AdBlock menu.
Intellectual disability
Those MSI cards are sexy as fuck
Epic.
Still Think Im going for the EVGA 980Ti Hybrid
Descenter1976 I might wait for the Fury cards.
well, i have a new pc, but with an old gpu! I need new and faster soon! Also Fury/next gen. might need all new moba with PCI-Express 4,0 or somthing?
eroOtoko1
Ill just take one now! Then put in the other 3 later when the price drops and i get a better PSU.
(My Moba supports 4 way sli so, there is that! :D)
Fury or any other AMD in my PC, NEWER again.
My last x2 card burn out in a year, and the AMD drivers are to slow to be released. no thanks!
Bryan G.
Sorry, dont even want it for free! Havent had mutch luck with AMD or ATI as it was! No thanks!
Descenter1976
So even though their SLI (Yes that is the proper name for it) performance is better on average and that the card will in most cases be better than a Titan X at a fraction of the cost? Well I have had nothing but good luck with AMD and ATI, I do not think I ever will need to own an Nvidia product. I do not dislike Nvidia per say, I just do not want to pay more for less. But considering you wouldn't even have one for free shows you just don't want to switch back. Respectable if I had bad luck with a product I would be hesitant too, but I would at least try it again down the line to see if there is any improvement.
I would love to see a video on ASIC quality and how it affects overclocking.
Been waiting for this, thanks Jay!
Jay, I love your videos. You're an expert at your craft and I appreciate what you do immensely.
Still rocking this card now... this video makes me nostalgic
I used to have the king of gaming PCs - now I'm only entry level!
@hatching draggon , same here with my msi gtx 980
more like mid range, you should be happy if you still have it right now
980Ti is still very good card for 1080p and 1440p.
Yup, that's it, I'm getting this card
Thanks Jay absolutely love ur work keep it up bro !! Please do the overclocking video :) thanks man
holy smokes jay thank you so much!!!! ive been waiting for this
Hay j love the review but can you make a video that we can read the benchmarks can't read shit
El Lobo I can see them just fine.
***** To be fair, they are a little on the small side, but definitely still legible.
DR0WN If they are watching it in a window, or on a mobile device, then I cannot support that. The text will always be too small on those devices. People want me to add more and more cards to these benchmarks to compare, but then they want the text to be huge so they can read it... they CANNOT have it both ways.
El Lobo i find them pretty small too
***** Can you then maybe put the images in the description?
Thank you very much for those 980ti reviews! Hope you will review Fury X asap!
Anderson Dickens When it is released we can hope for it.
Tomorrow benchmarks and reviews will be published.
Anderson Dickens 24th... today is the 22nd.
***** It's been the 23rd in the UK for 11 minutes now :p
Edward Hobbs oh nice, I didn't know that. so its now 23rd, is it pst? because doesn't seem to be our timezone
Thanks for the Quality content as usual
The commercials you make are on point! :)
Love msi gpus, I have the 970 version of it :)
xSplayd Mine had horrible coil wine so I changed it for a gigabyte, silent gaming achieved!
I like them to but im going with gigabyte just for the little bit better cooling and that its blue because i dont like red pc's
xSplayd Same here! Couldn't be happier with my MSI 970.
Dantes Inferno Yes I'm planning on getting another one for sli
the gaming guy tom Just watch out with Gigabyte as there quality control has gone a little slippy of late. I had terrible instability with there 780ti line of cards,..Asus won the day though last year for me.
"Pwn noobs without pwning your wallet" whoever wrote that, jesus christ...
Yes! Been waiting for this card!!
Got one coming on Saturday... SO HYPE!!!
watching reviews for high end graphics cards while i have a xfx 7870 and crying. Also a fx 4300.....dont buy one, they suck.
MrTeamTactical ikr
MrTeamTactical The 7870 aint that bad.
Had that the Twinfrozer till it got a memory-error after about one and a half years.
Now running r9 280x and hardly ever using it fully :P
MrTeamTactical I agree, I bought an fx-6300 and I would have rather saved my money for an Intel I5.
MrTeamTactical 7870 was an amazing card back in the day, don't feel bad about it.
MrTeamTactical i got an fx 4130 and an hd 6670
4:50 ***** is that from a wii u?
Thanks Jay - I went out an ordered one from the "EGG" after watching. They actually had it in stock!
Jay .. I have a question .. I really don`t know what to go for ..
For a air Cooled SLI setup ( at least for the next 6 months ) .. would you go for 2 EVGA 980 TI Classified or for 2 of these MSI cards?
Can you please do a r9 390x review?
There's no point all it is is an overclocked 290x. I'm dissapointed
Ofcourse. But doing 4 reviews of literally the same card is fine? Come on, he could at least do 1 or 2 vids about the 300-series: even a commentary would be a-okay to me.
Ben Zimmerman It also has full DX 12 compatibility.
shadows96100 Not full. The same as the 290x (its the same chip) and tonga, witch is 12_0.
Astralify No card out right now has "full" dx12 feature compatibility.
I have a HD Radeon 7570... WITH AN INTEL I7-4700K
Don't buy prebuilt kids...
+SerbK SerbK nah, prebuilt company's tend to upgrade everything BUT the GPU on their higher priced models.
DIY Projects Just switched it out with an r9 380x, play bf4 on ultra at 108p at 60-80fps cx
+DIY Projects Eh, you can get pre-built gaming rigs for about how much it would take to build it yourself at 'normal' prices without hunting for massive discounts or w/e.
Jay... when you overclocked this card what was the Max Power Target %? 110, 120, etc.?
Looking forward to getting this card, going to be one hell of a jump from my MSI 580 Twin Frozr.
Ok, now we wait for r9 390x review. Or he can get a 290x slap a 3 on there and review that, either one works.
now to see if i should buy this or the fury x
***** yeah im leaning towards the fury with its HBM and smaller size overall
onelasttitan Do note that the fact that they had to use a water cooler and restricted public information would mean that the demo cards were probably OC'd as fuck. I'm interested in these cards too, but the way AMD has done their marketing has always been fishy. They even removed kitguru from the list of reviewers and their excuse was that kitguru wasn't positively biased for AMD ... even that being said, kitguru were giving NVIDIA a shitstorm with the 970 issue, so I don't know what AMD's problem was. The truth is the truth, if they can't take it, I don't know if they can be trusted.
98luk45 time will tell, ill be waiting for the reviews once people get their hands on it publicly
onelasttitan wait for reliable benchmarks and don't trust any benchmarks directly from AMD or Nvidia. They always change it to their favor and cherry pick games that work better on their card.
onelasttitan it is smaller, but the maximum bending ability of the water tubing on the side will make it as long as 290x card. Sorry for my english
Your vids really help me to choose wichGPU i should buy.
hey jay, when you do your benchmarks, do you do all your cards at full overclock or baseclock? as to your videos i do most of my research before purchase from your videos but i would like to know what you run them at in the benchmark. this would be very helpfull thank you!:)
I hope we will be able in the Future to choose the Color of the Graphics Card.
So that we order a Card and choose if the red Stuff on this Card is Grey instead, or blue, whatever.
That would be nice.
Wilko Stomberg That is an amazing idea.
If you ask me, we should be able to have covers so that we can remove and change the colour/design. Now that would be great.
Wilko Stomberg
Costly to do custom jobs. Time, not money wise.
I don't think so, i think that 3 or 4 other Colors wouldn't be that dififcult to do.
They don't even have to redesign somethin,i juts want the parts of the msi card which are red now in another color.
So, to all Subvendors, please do it !
i m an owner of a titan x and i feel offended..500euro and 6gb more for same fps of 980ti
andre fringuellani Titan X is worthless if you aren't making a heavy workstation that will have more than 1 titan.
No graphics card rules forever my son
Yeah, I know that has to leave a pretty bitter taste in your mouth. The kind of money you spent on a Titan x nearly buy you 2 way SLI 980Ti and you'd end up smashing 4K into oblivion.
I have 2 of these in my guest pc now, they served me well for a long time
So do I wait for 2 of these 980 ti's from MSI?
Or do I go with 2x EVGA ACX 2.0 Superclocked with Backplate?
Uhmmm, why the title? Is it really necessary to say "first"? have channels become competition now.. Geez
jeymison2 Because I wanted to.
Yes, i pretty much understand that. however i personally don't see "this" approach quite pleasing... Not that this is the case but it seems quite arrogant. Really not meaning to offend Jay. I acknowledge his content and its very good. one of my favorites. But Perhaps a more humble approach could be more appropriate towards the viewers.
umm how am i supposed to read the benchmarks on mobile? lol
You don't. You watch videos on a PC. How dare you.
Uncle Tom lol
Definitely would love to see a video on ASIC quality, and to see where you stand on all of the overclocking aspects. So far, you've been a HUGE help to me, and many others, and I honestly am kind of surprised you haven't made a video on that already. I mean, look at all your water cooling videos lol.
Maybe some videos on helping pick the right display would be good down the road?
What is a good overclocking setting for this card? Using Afterburner?
jay, will you do a review of the new amd fury x gpus?
what's up man, I always notice your Fantastic quality in all of your videos, which brings me to the question of, do you use a Digital SLR and if so, which brand/model do u prefer for RUclips videos and which kind do u personally use?
Thinking of picking one of these up for my triple screen racing setup
Hi Jay, I just wanted to ask if your benchmarks are performed with stock clocks or the overclocked ones? Because I don't think this is mentioned anywhere...
Also: the stock clocks on the custom 980Tis is not 1000 MHz but 1140 MHz for MSI and 1152 MHz for Gigabyte. They additionally have OC modes that are even higher.
Watched this video probably 5 times now and I'm psyched I pick up one of these cards.
Hey man love your channel you seem very educated unlike these 12 year olds doing "technology reviews "
Great review, I know it's suibjective - but how is the noise level compared to Hybrid / G1 you've reviewed earlier ?
which custom 980Ti do you guys prefer and which one would you recommend? for example the evga hybrid or gigabytes g1
I was wondering how many 970's you have in SLI for your benchmarks? 2 or 3?
Great video Jay.. But the live gameplay performance videos were pretty cool.. Wouldn't mind watching a longer video. Just my opinion.. Great review either way! Keep em comin.
I love you jay thank you for reviewing this T_T
Hey Jay! Great vid! Something you mentioned in your vid got me thinking. With the way the tech is going for gpus these days, is it really neccissary to bios hack the cards anymore? I know youve done a how to vid on bios flashing before, but it would be nice to see a max watercooled gpu oc, and then see how far a bios hack can really push it from there. Is there any real gain after that point. There are plenty of little voltage offest mods out there if you wanna sqeeze a little more out of a card. I kinda doubt that a custom bios would really do much. Would love to see a vid about this.
JayzTwoCents, is it possible for you to do a wattage reading on a rig with this card running? And wanting to know if your statement of 500w being enough for any single card rig still stands to this date.
Is that Wii U controller stand you're using to prop up the card?
Just ordered mine, can't wait.
Dayum Jay be exclusively exclusive while exclusiveness... Aaahhh I give up good video jay
Does this card overlock automatically ? As in, i don't need to do any adjustments manually through a third party app ?
wow Jay... you were grey 5 years ago? Just bought this exact 980ti for about $80 :D
Very nice review. I have a question, I currently have a 970 SLI, and I'm concerned about the temp and the power consumption. Should I sell those and get this card instead? From the reviews I've read, including this one, it seems their performance are almost the same.
Good review, big supporter of MSI now, and I'm glad they picked you to get it first. I've been a long, long time supporter of ASUS and eVGA, but my next box (I build one every 6 months now), is going to be MSI mb and MSI GPU - I really like where they are going with gaming in mind, and I'm going to support them for it.
Still on the diet and riding the bike it looks like Jay, keep it up brother.
It seems the dual 8-pin power connectors are worthless. Does the G1 and the MSI still have a maximum TDP of 275 watts?
Already tweeted you about this but I'm curious if the G1 or the MSI was quieter? I know you mentioned you didn't have any coil whine on this but I've been hearing some complaints about the QA on the G1 cards (my own card was DOA) and I'm tempted to ask them to switch to the MSI card.
JayzTwo Cents sorry it's off topic of the video but what is that keyboard in the background with the orange accents?
how do you flash a bios?
I never understood when people say that. I really want to know.
Would you recommend this one over the EVGA version?
Yo Jayz Lovin your reviews. Time for a Lightning review? Ive brought one just waiting for it to come in post. Would love to here your spin on it! Keep it up Bro
im looking at a gtx 980 and I don't know which aftermarket cooler to go for? any suggestions?
Hi jay I was just wondering if you could make the text on the benchmarking table a bigger becuase its really hard to read with the phone I use.
Thanks for the video review, really enjoyed it, so you earn a sub.
Btw would you consider for future gpu reviews to measure noise (db)? most of the cards this days offer custom coolers, and temperature is one of the factors, looks is another, but noise to me as important if not more.
Thanks again for sharing, looking forward for mre reviews,
Did you receive any sample for the AMD Fury or Fury X?
A video regarding GPU ASIC quality would be awesome :D I've always wondered if the ASIC quality shown in GPU-Z is accurate enough that you could theoretically almost copy overclock settings of someone with the same model video card?
Dayum J! You are looking well Sir, keep pedalling, it is obviously doing you good.
will you be able to review Galax 980Ti Hall of Fame pcb card for gaming? I am planning on going with white/black/chrome(grey or silver) themed build and would love to see how it fares with other pcb cards
i got one of these cards for xmas last year. i also got a coolermaster v1200 powersuply to run the thing. can i ask. the PSU has a 6pcie power connector that splits into 2 8 pins at the end. do i use the one cable to power it or use 2 separate cables.
I saw some msi r9 380(which looked exactly like this 980ti, all red and black)... it said it used only 150w... is that right?
I just bought this card, waiting for it to come in teh mail.... super stoked/
Wheres the arma 3 benchmarks? Love the vids man
Jay are you going to release a Fury X review tomorrow? Are you going to put it up against the 980 Ti?
I'm very curious to see overclocking results compared to the EVGA Hybrid 980 Ti.
I wanna see a video on the asaic? quality and how it effects overclocking!
Hey Jay..... Do you know the recommended power to run 2 in SLI?
can i do a eyefinity setup with a 1680x1050 monitor and 2 1600x900 monitors? and how wil games do with that? i'm planing to put the 1050p monitor in the middle. (with a r9 290)
Hey Jay... why no noise test like you did with the G1 ?
Hey Jay, long time sub here. Quick question do you think this is quieter than the g1 gaming by gigabyte card or is the g1 quieter?
Thanks in advanced! As always great content, my favorite tech channel!
I guess i'll be throwing one if these in my rig this year
Just got this card yesterday and she is a hot beast. Temps at load are default max, 82/83C and fans are quite loud running at I think 60 ish %. I think it might be throttling when it hits max temps but mostly very smooth and good FPS on a 1440p Gsync monitor. I'm replacing my 970 because I don't want to deal with SLI and just want a great single card solution for now. I'm gonna play around with card's fan settings and case fan settings after the weekend and see if that helps bring temps down a bit. I'll post my findings when I'm done and check back, maybe one of you have already climbed this hill.
Also, thanks Jay for the review and all your other vids. You have been a big help for this first time system builder.
Holy shit. I hadn't watched your vids in a while. You've lost quite a bit of weight. Proud of ya! ✋
I'm building a workstation pc and I'm having a tough time figuring out what gaming gpu to add in. I've settled on the Quadro M400 to run programs like SolidWorks, 3ds, and Cinema4D, but I wanted to add more CUDA cores for gpu rendering. A single Titan X has 3074 cores for $1k, but the Ti has 2816 for $660. For that matter I can double the Ti for only $320 extra, but the downside would be the extra heat and power consumption. Any thoughts? And yes I'm totally aware of the difference between gaming gpu manufacturing and workstation gpu manufacturing.
What about painting the graphics card, and make it match your rig ?
Is it hard to OC it to 1500 MHz? I've never overclocked anything before, and it seems like a lot compared to the card's default 1279 MHz in OC Boost mode.
Are these cards, except for the cooling system are identical?
EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti Superclocked
EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti Superclocked ACX 2.0+
Want to change the default GPU cooling system for LC but do not want to pay for improving the air coolingr, since I will not use it.
Bro, you look amazing! Keep it up. Truly a great job at trimming down. I never thought of you as a bigger guy and man, you sir, you look skiiiiiinnnny! Pick up some weights and enjoy the benefits of having "reserves" when it comes to building up those muskeles.
Also, damnit. I have SLI Titan-X's and I definitely don't have buyers remorse, but, those are some very, very nice cards. I've loved MSI products for awhile now. 3 generations of motherboards used myself.
I saw a video on this card last week. Not the first but better.
Awesome review. Like you said you had to keep it short and sweet, and that's exactly what you did here. Thanks!
Yes, please do the video about the ASIC quality etc
jason what were you looking at on the cooler from 2:14-2:18
Great video, as always. Still debating updating from my 970's in SLI to a single 980ti, but I think that's mostly my epeen wishing for more than anything else.
Does it work with a DVI monitor? My 980 TI won't make my monitor switch on in Windows unless I uninstall the Nvidia drivers or load in safe mode :(
Im thinking of getting this card but i got a 750 psu. Is it too small?
i like that you used the wii u cradle to hold the 980.
How do I get one for 679$ which is MSI's price? The ridiculous prices on Amazon and eBay are over the top, I saw one on Newegg but it is out of stock for a while now.
