Great review! I picked one up last summer. It sees a lot of wrist time. The Titanium is gorgeous and so light you really forget sometimes that you have it on. I picked up a grey with white stripe elastic nato strap that really compliments the bezel. 70 hour power reserve is crazy! Only negative for me was that the metal keeper on the silicone strap was not solid, it had a tiny space and it would constantly pinch my skin, so I replaced the strap. Easy fix. Again great video!
@@paulpadua2568 Hi Paul, congrats on your purchase. I also have a 6.75 wrist and am seriously considering the Shogun inspite of its huge size but thanks for your reassurance.
I have a dozen seiko ranging from $500 to $5500 but this SPB191 is my favorite for some reason. It is so comfortable to wear with the rubber strap. Sometimes I forget that I am wearing a watch.
Awesome watch. Thanks for the review. Where can I find a titanium band to compliment this watch? curved or straight endlinks no problem.. Or is it ok if I slap a stainless steel bracelet on it? would there be clear contrast between the 2 metals?
I bought a Citizen BJ7111 51M a couple of months back for $399 AUD. They retail for around $900 but got it on sale. Sure it's an eco drive, but it's full titanium case and bracelet, with proper milled clasp and saphire. It's a promaster and it's iso certified to 200m. Oh...and it's also a GMT. If you want an auto, Citizen do a NY7111 51M in titanium also. Yes it's not a 6r35 but it's less than half the price of the Seiko. I love my Seiko divers, but just putting it out there that titanium is available at realistic prices. Cheers for the review, it is a beautiful watch none the less.
Great Video! Thanks for showing the watch by comparing it with different watches and putting it on your wrist. Is it me, or is the '30' on the bezel misaligned at the 6 O'clock mark? I've noticed many Seiko watches has this same issue, including the SPB 213 I reviewed. This issues really should not happen for a watch at this price. Seiko should really pay more attention to their QC, especially to their Prospex line.
Watched your review of this and the black version - plus a few other review of the Shogun - just pulled the trigger on the white version, brand new, 50% off from an AD - happy days 🙂🙂🙂
Unfortunately not. I have no access to any Grand Seiko. Too small of a channel. If I'm still on youtube on a regular basis in a few years and the channel grows they might lend me some watches and I can feature them!
Great video again Falling Titan. I love the fact that you review multiple variations/colours of the same watch as it really gives context and allows for better comparison..esp when side x side with other watches for scale. I was disappointed by the SPB189 esp the inflated price but now seeing the white dial which I never really considered...its stunning and much better value. I also love the Lumebrite Yellow hue from the indices as they contrast well with the plain white dial. Just to note you mentioned not many Divers made with white dial. Hi Falling, now I understand why the 41 is so much money, it's bcoz of a collaboration of 3 parties. Seiko, Beams and Tora-San. Hehehe Found out it is a movie watch in their local national, unlike Willard, movie history was shown internationally , thus the popularity.
I just started digging into this watch. It's not talked about as much as the 62MAS SPB series, but it looks like we can always count on FT for a review! I think I might like the case geometry of the Shogun even more than the 62MAS, but the case size is massive, even for my 7.5"! I imagine the titanium will help it wear much more comfortably than a similarly sized steel watch. Another bit of a turn off that you pointed out was the pressed dial. That has to be the reason the lume isn't as good as other Seiko models with applied indices. What were they thinking with that. I think these would have been a hit if they made it in 40.5, and perhaps with applied indices. They seem to have faded from relevance compared to the SPB143/5/9, which is still often seen and talked about in forums.
This old video has picked up traction recently. Strange! But Seiko has become a master of pressed dials. Even the SLA051 is pressed and the lume is pretty good. Rumors are also, the sla055 is pressed but that one I'm on the fence on as the indices seem a bit to deep and they have that striped finish. And for sure a 40ish shogun would be a homerun. Hopefully next gen!
@@EscapementWatch No way the SLA055 is pressed! The edges of the markers are way too crisp! That one is probably my favorite Seiko release this year. The original MM200 had filled lume indices if I remember correctly. The Shogun has lume stickers. I am a bit disappointed with the indices on the Shogun if I'm honest, but other than that it's a great watch and extremely comfortable on my wrist. Just purchased one for £666 on a black friday deal.

My Seiko white dial King Samurai that you already reviewed is much nicer than this much more expensive Shogun. I put my king Samurai on a strap code hexagon metal bracelet and it looks like a $3,000 watch. For $1,500 this looks much cheaper to me. My dial looks a lot nicer and classier too I think. Nice watch, looks similar to a Samurai with the new handset. A bit too big for small wrists though. You are really tearing it up with your Seiko reviews at the moment, the quality is excellent!
Bracelet to rubber strap less than $100 difference now. Both under $1400 imported from Japan. And you’re recommendation of wrist size is way off. A 51mm lug to lug is more than fine on a below 7in wrist but should be above 6.5 imho. The issue is the flatness of the case. Divers should have a little more of a rounded lug set when they run bigger. The Shogun doesn’t wear big though. All that matters is there is no over hang on the wrist. Wear a strap and it makes the Watch look smaller due to the naturally tighter fit on the wrist.
Great watch BUT 1. 1500$ for non-ceramic bezel and 21600 bph is just crazy 2. Silicone strap? How about putting an actual rubber strap on such an expensive watch? 3. Even at 1500$ quality control is still shit. Orient makes perfectly aligned watches at 100$ 4. People whining about it beeing too big are just trolls. My wrists are 14,5 cm and i rock 44 cm watches all the time. Its not 1960. Most 40< mm watches are outdated and not wearable if you actually want to wear a proper mens watch
Sorry, but $1,700 CAD for a watch that houses a totally basic, run of the mill movement (unregulated and known for being very hit and miss when it comes to accuracy) is way too high. The case is well done, but the pressed dial is another shocker for this price range, and Seiko straps are normally let downs. I think the better buy is a King Samurai (white dial diver), which wears more wrist sizes, offers a ceramic bezel, sapphire crystal and the 4R movement, which I've always found similarly accurate, if not a bit better after a few years on the wrist,, even though it's basically the same thing. Regarding the Mido: similar if not better finishing, much better ETA movement (similar to a Seiko 8L, although regulated and COSC certified), and they don't hold their value in North America, so they're great pre-owned buys (keep your eye out in the classifieds). Love the look of this one, but other than the titanium case and slightly better finishing, the King Samurai is a wayyyyy better value. Thanks for the review.
