I’ve just watched this on my large TV screen - a must for your amazing camera work! Wow, the first few seconds! A really nice watch and I love wearing titanium, I agree you forget it’s on your wrist. Hard to pick between the black and white dial, they both look great - especially now with those perfect hands 🙌 I think the 1965 62MAS reissue SPB143 etc have taken the attention away from this watch! Which is a shame! I’m looking forward to your next video - is it possible to beat that start sequence?

One month ago I bought the SBDC029 SEIKO Shogun Titanium with the titanium bracelet for 900 $. This is my first automatic watch and I have been wearing it every day. I love this piece of art
I've just bought the white dial version black Friday sale and further discount from an AD for £500. I would never pay the RRP for it but for £500 I just couldn't pass it up. I've not got a white dial in my collection and this one looks so amazingly crisp. Can't wait to receive it.
@@greensidemags thanks buddy. I get all my watches from First Class Watches, they are brilliant UK based authorised dealers and you can make offers if it’s slightly over your budget.
That silicone strap could live on that watch, its that good! My own pesky tendency to match straps made me switch it out, i couldnt resist. Thanks for watching!
my answer to this watch is Citizen Super titanium Tough, kevlar/titanium strap bracelet, 40mm 46 lug to lug, titanium monocase. Eco drive(this could be downside for someone), precise no maitenence. 300m WR - 500$
I believe the case of this version is the same as the previous gen SBDC029 (that I own) as I was watching this video while holding my shogun. I wear it more than my rolex and other watches, so yeah, pricey but you won't regret it. I swapped the mineral crystal to double dome blue AR sapphire and the watch never leaves my hand. I can't wait to change the dial on this one and change the white date wheel disc from white to black. The last thing I want to have it changed is the bezel insert to be a ceramic one but so far I can't find it anywhere. If you do have information about it, please do share. IMHO, if you can live without the white dial (as it is very stunning), get the Ti bracelet, it's so nice to wear it! but if you can source the Ti bracelet, buy the WHITE ONE for sure!
The same here. Searching for ceramic bezel insert for ages. Nothing to change more in previous version. I like it more with Monster hands. They are very compliment with 12 o'clock index.
Kinda want one of these as a new beater diver even over a SLA model….Also I think that the new citizen auto diver is much better built and has better Titanium, but this is such a good looking and fresh design that is sorely needed in today’s “retro” dominated market
Great video review, really high quality. Might watch this one a few times, I've always admired the Shogun. If I could nitpick, I'd get rid of A Man and His Watch. It's a bit of a watch channel cliché.
Thank you for the kind comment! I agree I have seen it a fair bit on many social media channels. This one was a gift from a loved one- who saw it from another channel. Ironic isnt it? but it's the thought that counts. The shogun deserves more love, it really stands on it's own as a great dive watch.
Great video. You can pick these up in the UK today for £575 half original price. Does that make these watches a steal or as years have passed there are now better value diver watches out there on offer swimming around?
Hi, I wanna move the buckle to another strap when I get it. The new strap takes a 20mm clasp. Will the original fit on that? Thanks for the video, great work. Thanks!
I do think this would be a good replacement for the white rolex explorer 2 and even though it is expensive it seems more realistically something I could afford
As the Seiko 5 resembles the Rolex Submariner's design, is this Seiko SPB191J1's design completely original, or does it take inspiration from any other iconic swiss watch?
My understanding is that milling titanium is significantly harder than milling steel, hence why you see stamped titanium clasps at much higher price points than with steel clasps.
@@Wjl889$4000 Titanium Tudor Pelagos has a stainless clasp. Citizen gives you Ti clasps because Citizen is leading the state of the art for Titanium materials engineering. It’s amazing what Citizen can do with titanium, but I greatly prefer Seiko’s design and proportions compared to what Citizen offers.
Most people won't feel the need to pay the premium for titanium and no real upgrade in movement but that's the deception. Seiko will make far fewer of these than the stainless equivalents so in time these will hold value better and just be more special overall. The last Shogun had poorer power reserve and did not come with sapphire so this is a good upgrade.
Fantastic Video! Thanks for showing the different angles and putting it on your wrist! (I have the same wrist size, and glad to see it wears well) haha. Is it me, or is the '30' on the bezel misaligned at the 6 O'clock mark? I've noticed many Seiko watches has this same issue, including the SPB 213 I reviewed. This issues really should not happen for a watch at this price. Seiko should really pay more attention to their QC, especially to their Prospex line.
I can't help but wonder myself if the white-dialed King Samurai is the better value. They are very close in size, the same aesthetic, and hundreds of dollars cheaper (plus they also have a Sapphire crystal). The big difference (besides SS vs titanium) is the 4r35/6 movement compared to the 6r35. I also own the spb147 and have been less than impressed with the performance of the 6r35, mine is running about -15/20 per day. My 4th Gen Monster has much better accuracy and shares the same movement as the Samurai (SRPE37). The difference in weight between the SS and titanium with both being on a silicone strap doesn't concern me. I'd give anything for a video that compares the two watches! Don't get me wrong... I do like both iterations of the Shogun, just not for the money they're asking. I'll wait for a price drop or a preowned one before I would consider it. Thanks very much for your review!
Its funny I had the same thoughts as you- this would make a killer pre-loved watch to own at a discount. The money has gone into the labor for carving out titanium that would be the case- otherwise movement, fit and finish isnt too far off from the Samurai. Thanks for watching!
I got the titanium bracelet from the spb189 on the spb191 and I like how it looks. Edit: I'm so disappointed with this watch, after a year and half that I've owned it, in 21 hours, it gets 1 minute and 50 seconds behind.
Anyone who thinks 43.5mm is too large has a very small wrist. It’s a perfect size for 6.5-7in wrists. And btw the black dial watch is nicer than the white in regards to the bezel.
it is not underrated, I think people like it but the real reason doesn't get so much attention due to the price is a little bit high, will be more popular if the price can go down.
It almost looks like a Seiko Samurai. Yeah, the price is difficult to swallow. Much like all the SPB model Seiko's. I recently got my White Samurai SRPE37, and it's gorgeous. And King Samurai specs are almost on par with the Shogun. Only difference is the titanium of course. The waffle dial is awesome looking and for more than 50% the price of the Shogun. Question, what brand is that nato style band? Might look nice on the White Samurai also.
I own the previous version with the round hour markers and those are much nicer in my opinion . These make it look like a titanium version of the Monster . Plus the clasp is absolute rubbish , the poor machining left the sharpish edges “ digging “ into my wrist making it unwearable on the bracelet . I had to buy the ratcheting type clasp part that is on the Tuna titanium , the inside of the clasp is stainless steel so wearable and the ratcheting function gives you that micro adjustment on the fly that is super handy. Why could they not just put that clasp on this model too ? Where is that Japanese precision and perfection , that attention to detail ? Nah, they mainly care about profit , just like everybody else ….
I half agree with this. It is not cheap to craft a solid titanium case, bezel and even bracelet. The cost of tooling and manufacturing is enormous. It makes sense for these to be priced above equivalent steel watches. On the other hand I agree Seiko’s prices have been ballooning
@@perpetuality Seiko prices are much higher than ever before. The senior management wants to make it a prestige brand but this won't work because the quality is just not good enough. It's OK but not at the levels of the Swiss.
