I've owned the white dial Shogun for the last year. Great watch! I think it has the best titanium case, dial and handset of just about any other seiko. The stock rubber strap was nice but too long. I opted for a Crafter Blue strap and its perfect.

Thats awesome to hear! I really want to see the white dial version in person before i decide which one i prefer bc theres so much to love on the white one. The shape and color of the handset on the white dial version is fantastic. I just wish it came with a bracelet option! A Crafter blue strap on this case sounds amazing, im a sucker for integrated straps😁

Dude, what a fantastic color scheme on this watch. Subdued, but not ordinary. That’s a good looking watch, brother.

Agreed! subdued, but not ordinary is spot on, I'm so happy they decided to go for the gray/black bezel combo. Seiko did a great job on this one and the white dial version no doubt

I've never understood why the Shogun doesn't get more love. I own this watch and the previous first generation Shogun. The first generation Shogun is still my favorite watch of all time. I absolutely love the way it looks. It obviously takes it's inspiration from the Rolex Submariner but the case design is much nicer and of course it's made of Titanium which I love. Is the watch perfect, no it definitely has it's flaws but it's still my favorite watch.

Great a fellow Pelagos gen 1 owner. ;-)
Yes I also have this titanium Shogun and after a very long and hard search it became the perfect watch for a road trip. In 2022 I traveled Europe in a VW van and this watch was the only one I could sleep with (as steel is too clunky and rubber burns my skin) and use for anything anytime anywhere.
The look of the watch really grows on you and becomes better every time one sees it.
I got it for half the price online and soon found out that it being a true Seiko...the chapter ring is off by miles (which is still something that speaks against Seiko even as I got tons of Seikos). As a occasional wearer I would put it on something else than the ti bracelet which is a bit flimsy looking (not wearing).
After 2 years of service it was running 8 minutes slow a day (so not too sure about the 6r movement...) and it needed a thorough service...I had to do it via a jeweler unfortunately and paid 250EUR...but it is as new...ready for the next road trip!

Incredible looking watch no doubt about it I saw one once before briefly but it had quite a presence. The bezel color looks far better here than in the online photos. I sense that this might find is way into your collection at some point!

Yeah I don't know why so many watch companies show watches in such a weird manner. They should at least get the color somewhat close! That brown color will never show up no matter what the lighting conditions are! Lol yeah this watch has really burrowed into my mind and every time I see it and while I was editing this video I get more and more impressed so let's see what happens!

I have a sbdc029. Really a great watch. The finishing on the case is amazing. Seiko has always been able to make quality ti watches. Feels so good on the wrist.
I have the samurai sbda001. Also an amazing ti watch. The case is amazing, and the indecies are unusual. Only sen them on this model.
    Seiko rocks ti!

Solid review! A buddy of mine has the Manta Ray Shogun and I agree, it wears way better than you would think given the 44mm size. For me, it’s pushing it (just under 7 inch wrist) but I was impressed with how cool and well built the watch is and the dial was great!
I feel like this watch is a rubber strap and NATO monster. If I got this, I’d still want a Tudor of some kind but this is an entirely different wearing experience. This actually makes more of a Seamaster Planet Ocean fighter rather than a Tudor fighter though despite the titanium construction.

    • @sinjinadams2862

A great review TWI. I have I confess I could be tempted... for the white dial version as the watch just looks so good on the strap. I'll be holding of for a while though as my Sister got me a reimagined Alpinist, some differences between it and the one that you have. No signed crown, display case back above the 6R35A, Prospex logo on the sunray green dial, a white date wheel and a 1st in my collection for over 5 decades a cyclops that I done normally go for but it seems to work OK in this watch. My 1st new Seiko for over 5 years, everything lines up and pretty accurate, a keeper although I'll probably swap out that strap at some point. Strap suggestions would be welcome.

I've often wondered why there had not been a lot of social media interest in the Shogun. After watching this I'm still unsure. Perhaps it lacks the heritage and perceived Seiko back story of some other SPB models in the price range. Good looking watch.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  Год назад +1

Yeah the heritage SPB models definitely take up all the attention and they are incredible no doubt but I'm still surprised a watch of this caliber has flown under the radar for so long. And it's more surprising considering that it's Seikos only titanium dive watch outside of the expensive LX line! One things for sure and thats that I'll be sad to send it back 😅

Not too shabby a Shogun...were I in the market for a diver, this (probably the white-dial version) would make the shortlist. However, the watch that's making me heartsick now, right on the heels of getting my 5 Sports GMT 003 (which I'm still crazy about), is the limited-edition Seiko 5 Sports due to come out in July: It's a total ringer for their very first Seiko 5 Sports release from 1968. Looks like it may *not* be making it Stateside, though. Still want it.

  • @itsallrobbish

I loved the original, but not sure about this one. It's graet that it has a sapphire crystal, but I'm not a fan of white dials, but it's execution is way better than the black one. I don't get the bronze seconds hand. It's areal shame, because I'd lve a titanium diver from Seiko.

  • @manuel_winde

I do like Seiko and am currently wearing one (sumo Pepsi padi) but I’m not paying more than 500 for them anymore as the movements are just too hit and miss.
Christopher ward offers much better watches, with better movements, QC and customer care at the 1000 mark.
Seikos are beaters only for me. I owned an loved me mm300 and the accuracy was great, but the chapter ring was slightly off. I’ve probably owned every Seiko automatic diver in the last 10 years so I speak from experience, they’re just not consistent enough to be logical choices for a watch at higher prices.

As usual with Seiko divers, the watch looks great and I love the Ti, but at £1400 for a 6R… it’s overpriced and I’m not surprised it’s been “forgotten” and definitely not underrated.
I owned an SPB143 which I love and still love the looks of, but after 3 months of ownership, the watch was running at +39spd so I eventually sold it.
Very poor performance at those sort of price points for a 6R35.

Yeah had a bad experience with mine also. Thank God I have a certified watchmaker 15.min away. He adjusted it in 5 positions followed by a dry/wet pressure test and it keeping +3 seconds a day.

Sure thing, i too find it weird how people always call for a color matched date wheel even when it causes a bigger visual disruption than what would be caused by a white wheel! Thankfully Seiko doesnt do this very often, the captain willard with a color matched wheel would be horrifying especially with the new ISO 3 oclock lume plot
