The Fastest Way to Peel an Apple

  • My neighbor had an apple tree loaded with fruit so I decided to make applesauce and can it for the winter. Since I don't have one of those crank apple peelers, I decided to make my own power peeler with the drill and a spade bit. I clamped the cordless drill down to the counter, and used a spade bit to hold the apples. I went through this full bag of apples in about 45 minutes.
If you don't feel brave enough to try this on your own. There are power peelers available on Amazon. Here is an affiliate link to a pretty red one: amzn.to/30Yqh7b

I'm going to give this a try, but I think I'm going to rinse the apples, then just put them back on the drill and 'peel' the rest of it to the core. It would save a lot of time slicing them, and then I could just freeze in zip top bags for pies or cobblers. :)

For $20 or less you can get and apple peeler that slices and cores it at the same time. Remove the handle and attach a drill.

Heh, heh! Clever man! This looks easier to use and clean than the apple peelers.

Like that, to make it more interesting maybe sharpening and changing the angle of the wood drill bit can be used as corer using the same drill

Brilliant Idea, thanks. Tried it myself but it didn't work well, because my cordless drill can't go to such a low speed. Will remember you method.

If it looks stupid, but works, it isn't stupid - slightly more dangerous, maybe - but worth it.

Great idea works great until you push too hard on the Apple getting it on to the spade bit

Word from the not so wise- stabbed the hell out of my hand when I was putting the apple on the bit. Make sure your battery isn't connected and NEVER force your hand toward the drill because the apple can split and your hand isn't drill proof. Other than the injury, this is an awesome idea

Dear Matt; Be smart and be a safe person and NEVER recommend someone to push an apple against the drill bit like you explained in your video. Watch your video 0:30 to 0:34 you are pushing the apple with the palm of your hand towards a very sharp spade drill bit. Not only there but you repeated this procedure several times.
If the apple split in two pieces you will seriously hurt your hand with the drill bit. This is a NOT SAFE procedure.
You can instead push the drill bit into the apple with the apple resting in a piece of wood or on a kitchen towel.
Next time think beyond the possibilities and void any unsafe procedure especially showing other on how to do.
I am sorry but I gave you thumbs down for this video.

A very good point you make +Nyck461, but the preachy, remonstrating tone is a turn-off.
