Don't be afraid to make it multiple parts for someone like Mayer or Mateus. I love learning the actual licks used commonly by these guys. They seem to show me even more directions a solo can go. Many seem reticent to show exact licks to keep students from becoming mimicking robots instead of playing their own style but I find I can adapt others' licks to my style which is what Mayer did with his idols and his idols did with their idols. Everyone's copying someone.
Being a Brazilian guy who had the wonderful opportunity to live for a year in Glasgow (2013-2014), I feel both proud and blessed to see two insanely talented musicians I admire converging in a video. I wish a lot of success for both you and him, Ross. Cheers and abraços.
still loving this shred 4 years later, i remembered i played it then, but I kinda forgot how to now, it will take few minutes to pick up again this style, thanks to your teaching!
Its amazing how fast people learn guitar now days. When i was growing up there was no internet. Im very glad there is now. Its brought out some amazing players.
Awesome stuff, im going to get your course just for this one. More of this would be awesome. For example Mateus' playing of double stops (especially 6ths) on non-adjacent strings (2nd and 4th string for example).
How do you even have any dislikes? This is complex stuff presented in a clear way and adding touches of how to practice these ideas. Matues is a phenomenal guitarist! Thank you for this
This is amazing. Your approach, clarity in explaining, and excellence in playing made me a fan. I like the idea of analyzing and explaining Asato's style.👍
Hey Ross, I play guitar professionally and your videos have put the fun back into practicing for me. Seriously thank you, your videos are great. Keep it up!
Ross, both you and Juan Antonio, my favourite guitar instructors on youtube, very clear dissection and explanation which is an under-appreciated skill in my opinion. Awesome :)
E-flat in the key of F is the flat 7th, or mixolydian mode. It is common practice to flatten the seventh, or leading tone, to give a dominant feel. It would still be in the key of F as the dominant modal note.
This is fantastic. I watched Mateus’ Don’t Dream Jam. Just sooooo tasteful. Then I started watching Mateus on Tim and Pete’s show. I keep getting stuck rewinding and rewatching Mateus jamming on the chord progression. Good lord. That’s the kind of playing I find so beautiful. Ross, feel like tackling that chord progression and all those awesome chord tricks and the added bass line?
Alvin Samson I'm a big fan of Brent Mason. In fact I transcribed a few of the tunes from Smokin' Section when I was at uni, including Samba Beach. Thanks for the suggestion! :)
That slide up to the 8th fret, would be B flat and E flat, which actually are also within the key of F, so they would not clash due to the tonal center of the key. It's a double stop based on a fourth interval, with the B flat in as the root of your double stop. Based of a fourth interval with the flatted seventh, it is a quartal based intervalic jump. Your theory is almost there, but otherwise, great technical explanation.
Crap. This is amazing! I'm shocked. Hahaha. Thanks for such nice video. (:
Mateus Asato so many guitarist in world love your style bro :) Thx for inspiring 😘

Great Scott!!! Its a time warp and you came straight outta yesterday! Good video. I agree, some musicians don't know Melody. They only know methods.
Nice lesson Ross! Would be cool with a Brent Mason one with more of his jazzier licks, Samba beach, swing with a sting etc.
Alvin Samson I'm a big fan of Brent Mason. In fact I transcribed a few of the tunes from Smokin' Section when I was at uni, including Samba Beach. Thanks for the suggestion! :)
