I started playing about 15 years ago..... Even with that much time playing, you still impress me. You lose me sometimes on theory, but I always pick up a trick, idea, or something usable in my playing.
yeah i like this..... ive been trying to master my guitars as i must master myself.
Learn theory dude, your cheating yourself and hindering your progress.
I'm learning a little bit each day.... Bookwork for 30-45 minutes and then play for a couple hours. I only started learning theory about 4 months ago.
I think the worst part it that I learned 6 instruments before I could read a single note.... My family is full of musicians that can't read music.
@@doc221978 Once you start to see how and why things work the way they do you will have a revelation and gain a better understanding of the music your playing/creating overall. Writing music without theory really is like trying to build a house without a blueprint.
Take heart, I been playing and giggin' 54 years and there is always something to learn:)
This has been one of those videos that really changes things for me.
You are the best teacher of music ,I don't speak very so much English because I am a Latino American person but you are my favourite teacher your videos are so enjoyed. I say hello where chile
This is so great! It connects my pentatonic scales with arpeggios in a way that helps me to play more rhythmically and create better sounding phrases. Thank you Paul. The symmetry of the fingering helps the rhythm. I hope that makes sense. I have been playing for many years. This is very helpful in mastering arpeggios and the whole fretboard.
-This is a message for myself: at 6:00 starts the major arpegio for tomorrow:
-Message for everyone: this has losen my caged pentatonic scale impros, i have been improvising for hours today because im so fucking happy because i am not stuck at the pentatonic caged sound, thank you very very very much.
Also great beard tho :)
This guy has those clean scandinavian chops. Them Ikea chops.
Wat
That would be strange because he looks like a Dutch guy. Oh wait.. he is Dutch!
Do Hoeijmans how does one ‘look Dutch’? Same question for looking Scandinavian I suppose.
@@terrysouth7201 Its hard to explain, but on holiday I can always reckognize the dutch people.
And his English accent is very very dutch. But you also have to be Dutch to hear that.
Do Hoeijmans
I hear it- he sounds like goldmember
Your lesson really opened my eyes on what I should be spending my time practicing. I am beginning to see the big picture. Thank you so much. You deserve a million subscribers. Its all about functional knowledge and freedom
Yes I like Pauls videos. They are always well structured. But I found a superb arpeggio video from an other guy. It was mindblowing to me ! If you want to get an easy concept to understand absolutely every arpeggio I recommend this one here: ruclips.net/video/XV67a5yIWho/видео.html
The reason I began to watch your videos more was because the sound is amazing - you've obviously got a good mic and quiet environment but also a good speaking voice
Awesome. I've been playing for about 20 years. I'm naturally a rythm guy. Trying to be better at lead. This lesson will help with this.
Reignite an old passion that you know will get you stoked! Music will always be there but fire will need new things..

The coffe is major.

TY SOOO much Paul, I'm a high intermediate to lower level advanced player and I learn a LOT watching your videos.UR an excellent teacher and a fantastic Master player, your methods of teaching seem to make it much easier for students/musicians/ guitarists to LEARN!
Great vid, great content!!! I learn a lot of practical stuff from you!
You discussed M3+M3 -> maj7, M3+m3 -> dominant7, m3+m3 -> min7.
The fourth combination m3+M3 would be harmonic minor, also nice.
This way of explaining was helpful to me :) thanks
A few month ago I was still stuck in that pentatonic boxes scheme. After I learned that first appregio in a minor I was playin around with it like hell. Now I feel super comfortable to play around a on the whole fretboard. Came back to learn the other ones. So thank you very much!
I know what you mean. I found a superb arpeggio video from an other guy. It was mindblowing to me ! If you want to get an easy concept to understand absolutely every arpeggio I recommend this one here: ruclips.net/video/XV67a5yIWho/видео.html
Witty that you chose the ”Fly me to the moon” verse chord progression. Makes it easier to practice ;)
I use these playlist to fall asleep to, not because they are boring but the voice is so soothing. Love your content.
man i love your guitar, the eye and white pickguard so catching
Paul deserves million subscribers or any number above that for that matter...so useful his input...ideas...theories...topics...and not the least, such pleasure to watch his videos...great and creative stuff..congrats and thanx!👍🤘🏻🎸
He never gets old, and his accent is sadly fading away the more he does videos, which is sad because i love it
Bravo on your 800k. I have been following you for almost 6 years now, I have your Loop program, (not easy) Hope you hit that Million
amazing fun with this coupled with a delay....cheers Paul.
Just came on board and although my head almost exploded, found your tutorial to be a revelation. I have been trying with not much success to play solos with Steely Dan songs. I think you just gave me the key to trying to emulate Larry Carlton and Jay Graydon among others. Thank you!
Was about to sleep cuz its like 10PM in the Philippines but then I got a notification that said "Paul Davids" and I immediately clicked it😂
Who sleeps at 10 dude 😂?
@@dennis_johnson It's a thing here in the Philippines bro! The earlier we're able to sleep, the lesser probability that we get a whooping from our parents. 😂
@@nexocampo I'm Indian haha. Same clan but I get away with it.

Takte! Akala ko ako lang pinoy na nnuod sa knya. Hahahaa.. tagal ka na nag ggtara bro ?
UNBELIEVABLE!!!! The most ingenious approach to simplifying ideas so they stay with you! Thank you!
You can faintly hear Fly me to the moon in that intro. Such a beautiful progression.
Watching this a second time with a basic understanding of intervals i can now see how this works and how there are so many more of these all over the neck
Hey Paul I've been following your channel for awhile now and enjoy it so much!!! I haven't been able to help fund the page yet but I figured at least I could thank you!!! You have made my guitar journey amazing with the quality and realistic manner you teach in. I'm pretty sure I can speak for everyone on that here! God bless Paul and keep them amazing videos coming. Looking forward to get in your class soon!!! Have a blessed day!!
Man you’re kind a priest of that religion I call guitarism.
Congrats! your lessons rocks
Yes, my friend! The secrets to a guitarGASM!
This helped me alot. Thx this is just what I was looking for. I am still confused on the boxes but watching your videos help!
E
i WAS ABOUT TO CONGRATULATE YOU ON THE 800k SUBSCRIBERS, BUT THEN I NOTICED THAT WAS 2 YEARS AGO!!! REACH FOR THE 2 MILLION!!!!! :) GREAT TRICKS AND LESSONS!!
Great arpeggio lesson. No modes to worry about! Thanks! You deserve a million followers!
Paul - you have within 15 minutes - blown the mystery for me. Fantastic stuff!
Crazy, I know arpeggios so well, but never thought of doing them this way, liked/subscribed just because this was so novel, thanks so much!
You're the greatest. Seems whenever I run across one of your videos I learned something new from you. Wonderful... Thanks, Joe
Should be on a late night radio show with a voice like that.
Looks like a little bit of alcohol. What's in that glass?
Back to watch this again. Good stuff. Thanks Paul.
I remember Guthrie talking "same shape on diferent octaves"
This video is so well explained...
"I just reached 800k subscribers" - Im just seeing this 2 years later and you have more 2.5X that many now... mind blowing. Awesome channel though.
Totally earned too ❤
Totally earned too ❤🎉 at NAMM this year, everyone was calling him out as "GOAT" it was beautiful
Dude. I learned this via the via/Maccio/cooder/ crossroads finishing song, but never applied it to anything!!!! Thank you for your tutorials!! You always open up more things to learn for me, as well as a different way to look at the fretboard!!!
The reason you have so many subscribers is because you play well, you teach well and your produce and video well. RUclips has a lot of interesting stuff.
Hey, these are the chords from Fly Me To The Moon ! 😃
I'm watching Neon Genesis these times 😉
rei or asuka
@@crazydiamond3403 I would say Rei, but she has that "incestual" thing that bothers me. Though psychology explains that frequently a man will be more likely to love women sharing some slight traits with his referent female figure 🤷♂️
Every guitar lesson you post is relevant and useful. You are the only You tuber I can say that about. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing , the first time I see somebody teaching this , thanks so much for your help ❤
Ok at 1:52 is the funniest joke ever
Mr. Davids, your humor is fantastic and your guitar playing is only matched by your talents for instruction and video editing
Congrats PD, well over 1M!!!
Zen-like simplicity. Thanks!
You're like the Bob Ross of guitar!
I have been playing guitar for quite a few years, somehow this video has unlocked so much for me. Thank you so much!!
Congratulations on the 800k
It won't be long to the million.
Always love your videos mate.
This was the most useful lesson in youtube for my learning about the fret notes and arpeggio practice! Thanks Paul!
This is THE BEST guitar lesson you will ever get.
I thought u had cut your beard pewds... how do yo-
Oh wrong channel
Meme review!
Hey Michael. Vsauce here.
This is such a good video, Paul you should re-release this because you’ve added 1.6 million subscribers since then. Two years ago this video was over my head, but now it’s perfect. Thanks
That Strat is gorgeous.
I like that he explains this very clearly and in a way new players can understand and yet in a way that you understand the theory without feeling like you're in a math class. Great framework for some melodic solos !!!!
All righty- Fan of your way of teaching Paul. It's nice to see all the positive comments and not all the trolling that usually goes on with others. I read quite a few comments and was hoping Paul or someone would explain why arpeggios are helpful in playing music. Dont get me wrong. It made me understand the fret board better, it made me understand how arpeggios work better, and challenged me on my knowing my notes and 'unlocking the fret board' better, but other than practice, why would someone use an arpeggio run like you are showing?

You help me a lot in guitar playing it improves my understanding on various styles
And now you are at 2.57M subscribers!
congratulations on the 82,300 subs. Well deserved!
Awesome lesson great teacher so informative.
The introduction is best.
"The fretboard""
Awesome idea. Really like the 2 string approach (R + 5th) and added intervals. Gonna be using this A LOT. Cheers
Nice little cacti 🌵 in the back! Minimalistic
Beautiful video. One thing you might add (and try yourself) is that if you play with a strap when sitting down, bring guitar itself up a little higher and have the neck at around a 45 degree angle, all of this will be much easier. Copy the classical guitarists; they do know better.
I like you... You are a graet teacher. Thank you for being alive .
I could watch his videos even if i didn’t play guitar. An incredible voice and delivery.
Great lesson! Congratulations on the 800k subscribers Paul... hope you get to the 1M soon :)
I must say that as someone who is decent at guitar but have no energy or time to learn more this video was great. Giving me an easy way to pass a lot of thinking about how to play and just jump into it! This is something I can incorporate quickly and easy into my playing :-D
When there is an option to Patreon you have my support!
Awesome. I've been looking for arpeggios especially in m7b5 for my lessons. This one is probably my favorite. Big thanks!
Getting some cool ideas for bass lines from this. Very informative. Congrats on the 800k.
Actually ran and got a pen and paper on this one. Believe it will really help extend that fretboard!!
Thank you.
I keep learning so much from you Paul! Thank you a million times over.👊
Very cool video. I had never thought of arpeggiating these chords like this before. And you are right, it does help me visualize the fretboard better. Thanks Paul!
Paul, this is a really incredible approach. (" oh, i reached 800k subscribers,,,") Now 2.57mill. Well done!
Now you are very near to one million. Congrats!!
Heerlijk hoe je de dingen zo lekker simpel houdt zodat zelfs ik het begrijp. En ook gefeliciteerd met 800K
I have spent a life time avoiding pentatonics -my sense was that the box would trap me. That streak broke 2 years ago. The pentatonic positions kick ass. Super effective and fun.
Watching this when you already have 2.59M subs. Great work man.
FINALLY!! I've been searching a such tutorial like yours for AGES.................. ugh... THANK YOU!
A lapstell player.... and YES! We lapsteel players are VERY GOOD at playing barre chords..... XD
My god your insights are so wise...Taking menus and yrs yrs just to learn even few things
Thank you, someone who doesn’t teach at breakneck speed/ I have watched many instructors the think I notice they seem to want to just impress and show off their playing, little interest in teaching, so Thank You 🙏 sir
I found this really useful to add to to my solos which have become a bit predictable so thank you very much, I have subscribed. Great video!
just done man! you re good! and pleasent. idon t subscribe to every channel, but you deserve the million! cheeerssssss
OMG! that intro... so fresh.
Congratulations on your success. You explain this well. Thanks so much.
You are an amazing guitar teacher and player. Thanks for helping out
MILLION coming in Nicely.
Pure quality and class...
That's brilliant! I've always used shapes like this but I've never thought to build an entire exercise to practice with. Well done buddy!
The Master teacher on youtube!!
He is an excellent teacher
Great music teacher for free...keep up the good work David.
Your videos are amazing! The way you explain it is like putting cherry on the top and the guitar's tone is like the cream that surrounds the cherry. The bulk of the cake is what you try to teach and guess what, you make the cakes so soft and delicious, we can't stop.
superb master
love lesson, love Fender !
many thanks PAUL
i swear your editing is getting better and more funny every vid
You're awsome sir!🤘
