Beautiful 650-e motherboard! All the power a guy could need. Lots of overclocking options. And this board is dripping in PCIe 5.0. Great choice my friend
I got this one for my new build, I am very happy with it, and I am very comfortable in the bios since I have been using Asus for a long time. Paired with a 7950x and a 4090, 32gb kit of 6000mt ram and 3 nvme drives. I was thinking about using the last slot later on for a larger, slower, m.2 for long time storage. But I guess it might be a no-go if running the last slot only gives me x8 on the 4090.. don't know how much of a performance hit that would be, but I guess having a total of 3TB will be plenty for some time, so not an issue yet.
Bit better than my system. 7900x and 7900xtx, 5200mt ram 32gb. You Need to remember that x8 at gen5 is as fast as x16 gen4 and 40 series use gen4 interface I believe so shouldn't be any performance hit.
@@DowsettReviews I've read several instances of different motherboards switching to x8 as well. You are correct that the the slot running at x8 gen5 would be just fast as fast as x16, the issue is current GPUs are still gen 4 so they detect the slot as x8 gen 4. I'd like to investigate this myself, but I am still waiting to upgrade.
@K. I have just got myself a 7900xtx which I will be doing a video on. I will let you know once I've got it installed and installed my m.2 ssds into the other slots as well whether it's an issue or not
The crap thing about this board is it has meditek WiFi and Bluetooth. But fortunately the WiFi card is very easy to replace, u just remove the shroud via the two screws on the back of the board, once the shroud is removed u then remove 2 more screws that hold the WiFi card since it's a generic m.2 WiFi card inside a metal shroud, and u just remove the final screw from from the metal shroud take the m.2 card out and replace it
I didn't even know about the slow sata ports before I read this comment. I guess they are banking on people using m.2's, but still a poor excuse to save a little money..
My only issue is that you need to install drivers in order for the LAN or the WiFi to work. However there is no USB with the drivers included. So if this is your first PC you have to go somewhere else to download your drivers in order to get your $350 motherboard to work properly. At that price point there is no reason to not include something like that. Other than that it's an amazing board and was easy to set up.
Agreed. I was very surprised that the LAN port didn't just work out of the box, but hey, it gave me an excuse to download and install latest bios when I was on the drivers page anyways.

I’m in the middle of building another pc but I’m stuck on the motherboard on my other pc I got asrock and had 0 issues with a i7 13k with this build I want to go pure gaming with the 7800x3d and this motherboard but I’ve heard that asus motherboards are burning amd 7000 chips how accurate is that also I want the g skull trident z5 neo amd expo ram does it make a difference or regular z5 would do it ? Lmk my budget is 350-400 for a motherboard are there any better options ?
I can only speak from my experience and I've never had any issues with asus boards. Their auto OC profiles can be a little aggressive and mean extra heat but so far so good on mine no issues. In terms of ram I've never tested g skill ram so hard for me to say. Do you mean does the expo part make a difference or do you mean the difference between z5 and z5 neo? I think expo just means it has profiles for expo and therefore should be a greater chance of it running at advertised speeds, at least that's how I understand it, but I've seen many run xmp profiles on am5 systems and had no issues. I guess you could always try and if it doesn't work you could return it, amazon is great for this. Other than that just look at MT/s and timings, go for lowest timing you can get in your budget, don't go crazy with the speed, from everything I've seen and from AMD themselves, 6000 is the sweet spot for 7000 series cpus, so not really any point paying extra for any more. There are some decent deals at the moment. I've just got 32gb, 6000, cl30 for around £100 here in the UK. With motherboard I'd personally again not recommend spending too much. Is this $350-400 or £? Take a look at the specs of the boards and see what features you want. How many m.2 slots ya want etc etc. That will determine which series ya should go for but I personally think b650e is a sweet spot, not stupid prices like x670e and still a lot of features. Especially as with ya going for 7800x3d you don't need a crazy power delivery or anything like that. I havent tested any other boards so I can't give a recommendation. However I think most are as good as each other is more about the specs you want. I've not heard any horror stories about any to be honest. Hope this helps

hey nice review for upcoming buyers! one question: whats up with all the reviews saying about burned cpu's while using this board? lol. is this true or they just haters form other companies?
This has been more of an issue with x3d chips and the boards supplying too much voltage. However there has been some instances of none x3d chips doing this too. @@koraykorac5463 well, my old PC booted faster as well, was a 970 Evo plus in that, so maybe 8 seconds. I am honestly to old to cry about spending a few more seconds to boot. I only ever reboot or turn off my system when I have to, so I don't really lose much time.
@@DowsettReviews I tested it on my pc, so with the Asmedia controller reading maxes at around 400 Mbps on 1TB Samsung Evo SSD, writing drops more drastically to around 300 from 550. Not sure if this will make big difference in real live if you use NVME as primary.
Thanks for that. Can't imagine it'll be a big deal as they're still ok speeds in real world scenarios. I use nvme gen 4 primarily so sata will just be for storage and some games.
@@DowsettReviews Oh, i apologize lmfao, totally misread. Thats fair though since the X670 variant does cost far more, so this probably is one of the cheaper strix boards - especially if you can find a cheap listing like i have 👍
@@DowsettReviews Yea lol, im planning to get it bc of the beefy VRM heatsinks since i plan on overclocking my 7800X3D now that the ASUS issue is resolved. (also the four m.2 slots which i plan on using in the future)
@Synthruss I'm not sure whether to use all 4. I have enough drives but might just use 1,2 and 4 as using slot 3 drops pcie x16 down to x8 but I'm gonna do some testing and see what difference it makes if any. As x8 pcie gen5 is theoretically the same speed as gen4 x16
I did mention it in the video. If slot 3 is populated then pcie slot 1 is reduced to x8 instead of x16. However x8 at gen 5 is equal to x16 at gen4 I believe so you wouldn't notice. And even gen4 bandwidth isn't saturated by current gpus so I don't think you would see any slow down. That's my understanding anyway.
@@DowsettReviews so slot 4 makes no changes strange and does the chipset remains cool since it is smaller heatsink compared to b650-f? One more question is aio header compatible with fan and can be adjusted?
I'm still in the process of building my system with this so have done no testing yet. This was just an overview video. There will be more videos with this including a full review of thermal performance. But according to asus specs, slot 4 makes no difference it only says when slot 3 is populated pcie slot 1 drops down to x8 instead of x16
Thanks Between e and f E has more power stages (16+2, f has 12+2), e has more m.2 slots (4, 3), e has an extra pcie gen5 x16 slot, e has more usb 3 gen 2 ports on the back, same overall usb ports but 2 more of them are gen2. E also has a q code led read out and has 1 more fan header. If you go on asus website you can compare them. Tick the compare box on the ones you want then click compare. B650A is only b650 and not b650e chipset
I've not had any issues. But it depends on weather the extra features are worth it to you. I wanted the q code read out as I'm used to having one and it's nice to know what the problem is if there is one.
The q code reader alone was worth the extra money for me. But I do like tinker around with memory timings and such, and having a code makes life easier. Especially when it comes to memory training and your not sure if the system has hung up or is actually doing stuff.
I gotta be honest man the pink accents are the only reason why I don't want the B650E strix boards. Both the -E and -F have pink accents... ROG Strix is supposed to be RED!!!!
It depends what features you want. F has fewer power stages and doesn't have a q code read out. There is probably more differences. But those are the major differences.
A straight to the point overview. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Thanks for you comment and thanks for watching I really appreciate each and every view. Glad you liked the video

Are you going to do a video of adding the components to the board?
I will be doing a build video soon
This board has a slow external SATA chip, so If you plan to hook some SATA SSDs, they will work slow.
Thanks for the info. I dont have any hooked up yet but I will soon so will see how they perform.
I use nvme gen 4 primarily so sata will just be for storage and some games.
is this a 6 layer pcb board?
8 layer
Nice but no slot for my creative ae5 plus sound card.
There's 3 pcie slots.
You do know that you can use the big pcie slots and you don't have to use the little x1 slots right?
Is sound quality good on this card?
To be honest I've never used the onboard sound.
Hey man.... Im not sure if affordable is the way you should describe ANY strix board..
True. That's why I put "affordable" on the thumbnail lol. It's bit cheaper than the x670 variants but still not a cheap board.
@@DowsettReviews Oh, i apologize lmfao, totally misread. Thats fair though since the X670 variant does cost far more, so this probably is one of the cheaper strix boards - especially if you can find a cheap listing like i have 👍
@Synthruss nice. I paid £310 for mine so wasn't too bad. Decent board though so far.
If I put more than one ssd 2 m.2 nvme drive in this motherboard will it slow down my GPU speed?
I did mention it in the video. If slot 3 is populated then pcie slot 1 is reduced to x8 instead of x16. However x8 at gen 5 is equal to x16 at gen4 I believe so you wouldn't notice. And even gen4 bandwidth isn't saturated by current gpus so I don't think you would see any slow down. That's my understanding anyway.
@@DowsettReviews what about slot 2 and 4?
@Sanak Pattanaik only slot 3 makes any difference. The others can be populated with no change. According to asus specifications
Awesome review! What are the main differences between the E, F, and A? I can't find a supporting document from Asus page.
Thanks
Between e and f
E has more power stages (16+2, f has 12+2), e has more m.2 slots (4, 3), e has an extra pcie gen5 x16 slot, e has more usb 3 gen 2 ports on the back, same overall usb ports but 2 more of them are gen2. E also has a q code led read out and has 1 more fan header. If you go on asus website you can compare them. Tick the compare box on the ones you want then click compare. B650A is only b650 and not b650e chipset
HI. Nice review. Is it worth the 50€ more than the b650e-f? Have they fixed the issues with the intel ethernet controllers?
I've not had any issues. But it depends on weather the extra features are worth it to you. I wanted the q code read out as I'm used to having one and it's nice to know what the problem is if there is one.
@@DowsettReviews Thank you. Between this and an asrock steel legend x670e which one would you recommend?
From what I've seen even though it's x670e chipset it's a more basic board.
The q code reader alone was worth the extra money for me. But I do like tinker around with memory timings and such, and having a code makes life easier. Especially when it comes to memory training and your not sure if the system has hung up or is actually doing stuff.
@@acidcrow4051 The error code reader and bios flash back button are a must for me.
I gotta be honest man the pink accents are the only reason why I don't want the B650E strix boards. Both the -E and -F have pink accents... ROG Strix is supposed to be RED!!!!
I get ya man. I don't know why they did that. However ya don't notice them when the system is on
I want one!
Go for it
@@DowsettReviews Gonna put a 7800x3d in it.
@@stephenT723 nice
Kills the pourpose of the second PCIe 16x slot!
Disqualified!
Fair enough.
ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-E OR B650E-F ?? WHICH IS BETTER?
It depends what features you want. F has fewer power stages and doesn't have a q code read out. There is probably more differences. But those are the major differences.
Just get ASUS TUF B650e and save $150
Totally understand what you mean but it doesn't have all the same features
