  • Victoria Gonzalez testified during the Nikolas Cruz sentencing phase, telling jurors that victim Joaquin Oliver was her soulmate and how he met her at the bus stop the morning of his death with Valentine’s flowers and a stuffed yellow elephant. Cruz faces a possible death sentence for killing 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14, 2018.

@@DarkSky66xxI got married at 18 a month after my high school graduation. I can promise you she was not too young to be married, she was not too young to know what love is, and she probably was going to be his wife one day. This boy who was brutally murdered and suffered at the hands of this monster had so much life ahead of him before he was killed. You can see just by how his father spoke in another video that this boy was a light and was extremely smart and had dreams that he never got to fulfill. One of those dreams was to spend the rest of his life with this young lady and he’ll never get to have that life now because it was viciously ripped away from him.

@user-uw3zx4lm9x They probably were in a courting stage of their relationship. A lot of people choose courting and don’t have the label girlfriends or boyfriends because when you are courting you are seeking to get married to that person so it’s just soulmate, partner, or future husband/wife. My husband and I were married a month after we graduated high school we both had just turned 18 and we are still going strong with 2 beautiful children and this boy and young lady could’ve had that one day but it’s been ripped away from them forever now because of what that monster done to so many children. When you’re as inlove as this young lady is you have no doubt that they were to be married one day. The way the family interacted with her they love her deeply to so this wasn’t just the shallow “oh we just became boyfriend and girlfriend today” this was much deeper than that you can tell she’s been with this boy a lot longer than just one day. Now because this monster destroyed this young boy he will never get to fulfill his dreams of spending the rest of his life with her. His father spoke beautifully about him and I truly believe this boy was full of love before he died because you can tell he had a great home life and was raised by great parents so there is no doubt in my mind that they would’ve been married some day if that monster hadn’t brutally and viciously murdered him.

I know most people watching these proceedings feel nothing but hate for Nikolas Cruz, but I only feel pity for him. I’ve read many comments where people have said he shows no remorse, regret or emotion but that’s all I see from him. He had not much of a life before this and will have even less of a life after. I can’t even imagine the pain his actions have caused all those student’s family and friends. But I do understand the feeling of doing something terrible that you completely regret. Not on the level of what he did but I think that as I watch his reactions, he looks like a miserable person who knows he made the worst decision of his life on February 14, 2018. I’ve seen arrogant, remorseless, evil defendants in court videos before and I don’t see that in Nikolas Cruz. He will pay for his actions and spewing hate toward him won’t bring back those wonderful children who lost their lives that day.

love is just as pure and true at a young age, it just doesnt always last because teenagers are often figuring their lives out and may end up going in different directions, growing up and changing in different ways... sometimes people grow together and sometimes grow apart. it is a little more rare for young love to work out and last long for those reasons but it doesnt make the feelings and emotions any less serious and valid. its nice to hear stories of when it DOES work out. i imagine too if joaquin had lived they would have been together a long time especially with the trauma of living thru this situation to bond them... there arent many other people who can relate to what all these kids have experienced.

Likewise, a deep grief is something you can only know once it breaks you apart. I wish this young woman a bright future. We have reacted, we are always reacting. It’s now time to be proactive. It’s time to stop suffering the consequences of our failures but focus on preventing them. Mental health and social media play a role that cultivated these killers. Know your child, plug in, and engage. @@zeldagoblin youth mental health is key and it starts in the home not the classroom. Although I agree it is important for teachers to be trained to spot and report “red flags” we can’t legally do anymore than that…we are not psychologists or licensed therapists. But because we live in a world where we want everyone to feel okay, we have kids that are NOT okay mixed in with other kids all day with little supervision of interpersonal interaction. This is leading to bullying and social seclusion which results in screwed self-efficacy and damaged social self concept. These kids need to be identified and placed with in a self contained classroom with a teacher specially trained in behavior. Once the student can open up and learn positive coping skills they can be introduced back with their peers and be monitored closely. Mental health seems to be a big buzzword for young folks today, almost like a badge of honor. But it’s diluting the issue making it hard to identify the kids that really need help. I have started following Victoria and Joaquin right after the massacre, their story just fascinates me and breaks my heart at the same time. I can tell that this tragedy affected her so much that she even changed physically. She used to have this generous rounded face with a smile stuck on it 24/7. Now her face is bonier and thiner, You can tell she's been through hell this whole time and suffered major ptsd. I feel for her. Having to deal with this at such a young age is unimaginable. I am a 40 year old mother and she almost could be my daughter. I could never imagine having to support my daughter through such a tragic event and being affected the way Tori and the other kids were. This breaks my soul into million pieces. She, along so many, will never, ever be the same. I wish you peace Victoria. Stay blessed.
