  • I often get asked whats the easiest way to parallel park and this is it. The reverse parallel parking 121 method works almost every time. I show in this video how to parallel park using the 121 method and what to do if it goes wrong.
    The easiest way to parallel park is a great way to learn this reverse manoeuvre and easy to practice with a friend or parent as part of private practice. The easiest way is also a good way to park after your driving test. Most people use a form of the 121 parking method they just don't know it as the easiest way to parallel park.

    Thank you so much for this video, it has helped me so much! Do I have to indicate when performing a parallel park in my real test? :)

    • @ChimpOnCars
      @ChimpOnCars  3 года назад +6

      We would only indicate if we are about to go into reverse and a car approaches. If we feel they need to know we are about to park then our reverse lights and an indicator would help them to either wait or go around us. Good question!

    • @ChimpOnCars

      As you get more experience and confidence you just park a car. There are many variables so no single routine will always work. Use this or any routine until you get so confident that you just park. Keep safe while you practice!

    How do you know when to start turning your wheels the other way in the 45 degree section ? How do you know when your car is 45 degrees and safe to turn and it will park without hitting the curb and isn't too far away from the curb ? What reference do you have to use ?

    • @ChimpOnCars
      @ChimpOnCars  10 месяцев назад

      You don’t need to use a protractor to work out the angle 📐 a good guess is sufficient.
      The width you the cars, speed that you steer, speed of your car, etc are all variables. With this in mind there is no technique that will work 100% so just accept that this will get you mostly parked and with experience you can improve upon it.

    How do you deal with steering being different on cars? The car that I learn in requires less turns in manoeuvres - eg) half turn the wheel, whereas my own car I have to swing the whole wheel round when doing parallel. Thanks

    • @ChimpOnCars
      @ChimpOnCars  2 года назад

      Good question! All cars are different.
      We teach routines like this to get people pointing the car mostly in the right place. Once you have built some positive experiences in then you will become used to steering as much as you need. This will allow you to park different cars in different spaces without thinking about the turns on the wheel so much.

    Has the driving test changed in the recent years? Unless I am misremembering, hitting/touching the kerb was a fail for the test? Is that not the case?

    • @ChimpOnCars
      @ChimpOnCars  3 месяца назад

      Good question, it comes up a lot. It is a safety test so as long as you are safe then all good. Hitting a kerb hard or going up it would often be classed as unsafe and a fail. Touching kerbs with no pedestrians close would often be safe enough to pass.

  • @stevenv484

    Hi, how did you know when to turn right? Did you have a reference point?

    • @ChimpOnCars
      @ChimpOnCars  2 года назад +1

      Great question. It’s in the video but basically you need roughly a 45 degree angle across the road with your car.
      There will always be variables like the size of the car you are parking behind and the distance away from it you start but roughly 45 degrees will be a good start.
      Remember that you don’t need to swing in and park perfectly as you can make adjustments.

  • @zxerk4158

    I am really bad at judging how close I am to the car in front and the back. Especially the back. i find myself having to get out and get back in the car and do this a few times. I do not want to inconvenience anyone and be parked too close to someone.

    • @ChimpOnCars
      @ChimpOnCars  Год назад

      That does take practice but I find that once I'm used to the car I can judge it better. A good way to help this is find a friend or relative who lives in a quiet road. Ask them if you can practice edging towards their car and then get out and have a look. Do this a few times and it gets easier.
      Or get your local independent garage to fit parking sensors. They are cheap and easy to fit so it shouldn't cost too much. If you are near North Kent then my friends garage in Lynsted does them.
