      So far I’ve had the most consistent velocity and accuracy with Shooters World Match and CFE223. However, I recently started testing Accurate 2520 and LeverRevolution; both look promising for similar results. My favorite bullet..and most accurate by far is the Sierra Matchking 107. The Berger 105s and Nosler 107CCs also do pretty well. Hornady is hit or miss, et al.

    Love my 6ARC. Took a deer with it this season with the 80gr TTSX bullet, excellent performance. I just put my 26" target barrel on a savage action and it is so easy to load for. With varget, I am able to get 2750fps with 107gr SMK bullets with fantastic velocity SD's. What most people don't understand about the 6MAX is the case is not designed well for higher BC bullets and relies on temperature sensitive spherical powders to get their velocity claims. I am not saying it is a bad cartridge, but it will not compete well against the ARC for long range shooting.

    I built my 6 arc not long after its launch. I too was disappointed in the ammo supply, Been buying every round I could get up until yesterday I reload my own and could not find brass anywhere. Seems starline fixed the problem. With no luck on any brass up until a few months ago, Recently I have been able to acquire 500 pieces of starline and finally was at bass pro yesterday and actually left a bag there in the store because they also had the 44 mag brass I have been looking for. Anyway, hopefully the ammo problem is sorted. I absolutely love my 6 arc gas gun. My next rifle will probably be a bolt gun chambered in it as well.

    You should check out the 6mm MAX, it’s the 6mm ARC that’s dimensionally optimized for gas guns. Uses the straight walled .350 LEGEND as the parent case - which not only means you can use the good ol’ fashion 5.56 bolts (instead of the thin-walled 6.5 Grendel bolts with compromised durability), the straight wall dimensions also means it’s easier to design a new magazine around it.
    The only disadvantage I’ve seen (at least on paper) is that it’s SLIGHTLY worse than the 6 ARC at extreme distances. We’re talking MINUSCULE differences. The other disadvantage is that it’s technically not out yet lol
    Some might say it’s not a big deal, but I believe that the 6 MAX solves the largest issue of the 6 ARC which is the questionable durability of 6.5 Grendel bolts as you start approaching those higher (in this case not so high) round counts.

    • @calebwhiteknives
      @calebwhiteknives  11 месяцев назад +2

      I keep hearing about it; and I’m a little intrigued. Ammo and components will probably be years in the making though. Personally, I’ve got about 4k rounds of 6ARC through one of my main burners and I haven’t seen an issue with the bolt yet. Frankly; I’ve never seen one except in either 556 or 224v..and it was sheared extractors. In about 24 years of being an AR fanatic and runner, those are the only two rifles I’ve personally had a bolt issue with.
      Mileage may vary for some; but largely I think the new wildcats like the Max are solutions where there isn’t a problem.

    the issue with the 220 russian and its derivatives (7.62x39, 5.45x39, 6.5 grendel, 6mm ARC) is the case head diameter leaves an almost paper thin ring of support on AR-15 type weapons. some smart guys, including the proprietor of Sons Of Liberty have created a new cartridge they are calling the 6mm Max based on the 350 Legend case. It keeps the pressures reasonable, the case capacity high, and allows much more bolt ring thickness to enhance durability. should give it a look before investing in 6mm Arc.
    Also i'd argue that 6.5 Grendel is better than 6mm ARC for the vast majority of people anyhow, especially in the 16-20" barrel range.

    • @calebwhiteknives
      @calebwhiteknives  11 месяцев назад

      Personally, I'll pass on any new wildcats until an ammo manufacturer of real substance starts putting out components/ammo. I get the theory behind the 6Max, and I'd like to play with one. But the 6ARC does just about everything you'd ever want an AR cartridge to do, and beats the Grendel past 600 yards handily...unless you want to lumber around with a 24" barrel for the Gren. I've shot both a lot, and while I do have a soft spot for the Grendel, i'd take the 6ARC over anything else any day. Now in a bolt gun......hmmmm.

    got to shoot a 6arc myself and i was suprised about the recoil, everyone says how light it is and its like a 223 recoil. well in my experience nope its definitly harder than 223 but yes its way lighter recoil than 308. it was a cmmg 16" upper with a birdcage muzzle device si dont know if that matters vs a 18" w a muzzle break. i only got to shoot paper with it so do not know about how hard it hits real targets just have to take everyones word for it i guess. also only shot at 100 yds so also have to take word that its great at long ranges

    • @calebwhiteknives
      @calebwhiteknives  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah it's not quite as light as a 223, but it is slightly lighter than the 6.5Gren in my opinion. I've shot this cartridge in both 105 Bergers and 107SMKs out to 850 and 1250 at steel, and it'll ring it for sure. Even in a stiff 17mph wind, it was relatively easy to get on target at 1250. Noise feedback at that distance was harder to get than at 850, but it'll swing a small plate easy enough to spot most of the time beyond 600yds. I've been running the Aero V6(?) muzzles devices and they tend to tame just about anything down.

      I’ve been shooting it in wildcat form for a little while (see 22 DPC). 22 ARC is what the 224v was promised to be. The case capacity is better and you can push an 85gr berger to 2750 without much trouble. I think my favorite all around is the 69gr Sierra match king. 3000-3100fps without pressure signs is fun.

      The 6.5 Grendel is fine cartridge to be sure; and I've enjoyed it over the years. I'd say up close, say within 200 meters or so, the Grendel is going to have a bit more 'thump' than the ARC; but the deer I've shot with the 6mm ARC have not complained, and tasted just as good! 😆It's so darn easy to be accurate with the ARC, and the 108 Berger Hunters, along with the 95 Berger Classics both fold up a deer like a taco. A delicious venison taco!

    Pretty sure 6mm max will all but relegate 6arc to bolt actions. Same drop drift and handles almost all the projectiles of 6mm arc but with the 5.56/2.23 bolt face so the bolt reliability is eliminated.

    • @calebwhiteknives
      @calebwhiteknives  11 месяцев назад +4

      I doubt it…the numbers don’t add up and it seems like a solution where there isn’t a problem. I’ve run thousands of rounds of 6ARC and Grendel and haven’t ever personally experienced the mythical bolt problems. Not saying it doesn’t happen; but I’ve seen it on a 556 more than I’ve ever seen it on the 6.5Gren bolt. Bad bolts are bad bolts. At some point folks are gonna get cartridge fatigue with everyone trying to recreate, or beat, what’s already established as a great cartridge for the AR platform. We’ll see how it works out; but I know I won’t be wasting the energy changing my ARCs to a slower cartridge without some compelling evidence of a major benefit. Hornady knows the game better than most - 6ARC is here to stay in my prediction.

From a cursory glance at the 6Max it looks like it's geared more towards lighter bullets - fixated on higher bolt-reliability(theoretically). The concept is sound, but loses some appeal if your into the higher grain weight stuff that the 6ARC is good at propelling.
