For those of you who thinks it's slow he is clearly taking his time to show how the system works and I'm assuming that he can set up both sets at once before jumping into his truck and pulling forward. This might take 3 minutes to put on both sets. It would definitely be possible to put them on with the trailer hooked up as well, not as easily but definitely very doable.
In all the 31 years that I drove, I've never seen anything as slick as this. You have a great way of applying an idea into a work saving, safe way, of chaining. And for the guy who remarked about being heavy with mud, snow and what not, just take a broom knucklehead and sweep the chains clean!! Thanks for showing this - nice video and well presented.
Well John, pretty obvious that you haven't hauled in the oilfield. When I'm talking clay, that is that you can't pressure wash it out & you sure as hell aren't going to "take a broom knucklehead & sweep the chains clean"! roflmao! I'm pretty sure that you're 31 years of driving was highway or just "country dirt roads". Mr Knucklehead to you!
Oil fields - no. Just coast to coast and the lower 48 here in CONUS. Construction, logging, livestock, and FAK. About the mud, some mud is a real pain to get off and can present a danger to those on the highway if not cleared before entering a highway. My comment "knucklehead" was over the top and not called for here. I apologize for that.
You sir are a genius patent that shit mass produce them n I will meet u in a warm sunny beach somewhere! Somewhere you never ever never would dream of putting on chains! That is the coolest setup I have seen good job driver! Every DOT officer would love u! Great engineering my friend I need 12 sets ASAP!
This is a sweet set up I am a disabled trucker with bad back hips and knee replacements I can not put chains on without great problems so seeing this and how easy it is and wont hurt my back or knees its great idea. To all those guys that put it down cause they can throw chains in 10 minutes good for you I only hope you never know the problems that can make chaining up a real night mare dont bash a guy because he found a way he finds better to do a job you can do easy.
trenton johnson I agree. I drove bus between Truckee, Northstar ski area, up to Tahoe and around the north shore all seasons. About 3" clearance in the fender well, less on some makes. The only way to hook them was either between the ground and one side or the other, depending on the bus make. If they'd had something like this, I'd still be doing it.
i feel this i have to put chains on yard trucks all winter long manually. this is some of best stuff i’ve ever seen. and i always think i have it down to a science.
I'm all for innovations, actually I spend the better part of my driving hours thinking of how I can improve stuff. I like this set up. It's perfect for older guys like me that like to do things the easy way. Especially if you only chain up every now and then going over Rogers Pass or the Coquihalla. But if you travel any serious off road this would shred to pieces in a heartbeat. So I'm afraid I won't be using this anytime soon at my job. It is pretty cool though. I put a link on my page.
A very good System. I am Driving an Peterbilt 359 13 Speed Double Over from 1981. my Big Boy has 3 Axles in The Back. And with an System like that it is very easy and fast. I am on The Iceroad every Year.
wow that was mint. A few weeks ago, I had to chain/unchain 4 duels so we could run 50km up a forest road. (my second time ever with chains) With 2 guys it takes 3/4 hour - 11 min per tire. We dont get dirty doing that job either. But that chain rollup riggin is pretty sweet ! Great to see that kind of homebrew to make the job easier. Obviously the truck has to go places where chains are used several times per season.
Boy Howdy this *has to be The Slickest method of Mount/Dismount of snow chains I ever seen!!!!! You should sell these puppies!!! I bet you'd make lotsa moolah!!*
Really nice and almost no cold hands ... NO broken fingernails ... yes I am a woman lol Rather SMALL fuell tank on this truck ... We carry 600 to 1000 liters (international / interstate trucks)
Who are the 14 that do not like this ??? I think it is a rather good system .... Allright there are other systems .. but this is a really good one. No really cold hands .. imagine that :) Who can be against such an idea .....
A very good idea. Only concern is that all chain installation videos show a Bobtail being installed. What about truck with trailer installations? Certainly a different installation. Having said that, the fender slide-away is a bomb! Now that’s another great idea.
Nice... This would save a lot off hard work.. Even if you don't have removable fenders this could be made to work.... I hope it has a grated bottom to let water out that comes off off wet, muddy or snowy chains...
I kept (2) three foot long planks in my side box. I would place them in front of the inside set of tandems. Drive up onto them, lifting the outside set of tandems about 3" to 4" inches. This allowed me to adjust my chains (cable chains) on the tandems! I didn't have a couple Fancy diamond plate boxes with gears and gadgets! If you got the money for such things, go for that system. But, my way was fast and efficient. Just sayin'!!!
It's a great concept but 1 you will have to keep your inter axel locked to bad you can skip the front and carry to rear drives 2 housing them with snow and ice they are going to freeze in that box and 3 if they do freeze yes officer I have chains just can't get them out of the box. It is awesome though
it's OK on the highway but in the bush thats when you get scooped is when you pull over to chain up. that meens waiting a half hour longer on the landing witch can meen the diference of getting dumped that day or the next. also more moving things meen more things that can break. one thing for sure though pretty smart guy who thought this up.
Awesome idea but you should look up onspot or rotogrip automatic chains? Just not sure on dot regulations in your area. See them on plow trucks and school buses.
I swear this is true. In the 80's I worked for a parts store in Coeur d Alene. One year we got a LOT of snow overnight, late Feb I guess. Next morn (Sat) was a zoo, and in comes some kid who told me he just flew in from Hawaii to Seattle and picked up a truck to drive to ?? Texas er somewhere. He had driven only in Hawaii, NEVER in the snow. He told me he had never SEEN snow. "Back then" everybody (local loggers) used triple rail chains, maybe one single on the front in a bad spot for steering. We sold few if any dual chains (no center rail, they made 'em) and lots and LOTS of "triples." Anyway, a couple of us (we ain't drivers) had to go out in the parking lot and show this kid how to chain up with triple rails.
i do like the movable fender. good idea. as for chain mecanism? not really seeing the sense. takes me under 5 min to put 2 triples on , but thanks for showing your invention
Looks nice for local/yard/offroad work but on the side of the hwy in the middle of night and needing to detach from the trailer just for two sets of chains looks like too much work. Time it would take to get me rolling again with truck and trailer chains (and including the weight of that setup vs chains alone that can be removed during summer months) then removing and putting away the equipment a few miles later just doesn't seem worth the expense
I think this invention is GREAT! but I will say it only takes me 15 min to chain up..full chains!! But this would eliminate cold hands and fingers..plus id like to see this done with a trailer on back for added effect.
heh if i used my chains that much that i needed a device to put them on i would think about getting a better truck ... i drive in the norwegian mountains and only used chains once this year ... you would thing tandem drive is good but after using all sorts of different rigs, the best is a 3 axle rig where the drive is mid axle and the rear one lifts to put more weight on the drive wheels... with my rig i can get about 28tons squishing down on the drive axle and that will get me up pretty much any hill wether it be covered in ice or snow
I LIKE the idea especially a fender that can be moved , but I do see some problems in a working situation. I chain up regularly in northern Alberta. I HATE putting chains on in the mud. When I chain up, its usually 2 backs and a passenger steer and my time is under thirty minutes. Anyways, any idea to help is always great. Great idea, and the press to you and your ideas.
I seen a very similar setup in the early eighties, then the flood of newbies came and they knew everything, the old timers were just old. Then the CDL era came and got even worse.
rbbrduck1 I think he was meaning the back axle not the opposite side duals.but I'm sure he could bungy strap chaina for front axle and back together and do back axle first.be neat to run 2 spools in the box 1 for front axle and the other and do both at the same time
Roger E. Erickson ahh it would be just as easy to set it up for trailer to.truck box was run off of pto.I'd say he could run a trailer one off of hydraulics
You Sir are a Genius. I hope you have patented this and make millions If I was a Owner Operator I would want one for my rig. I didn't understand the part at the end with the Drum Trouble dials, what was that about? Be Well.
very cool idea, but by the time you chain up one wheel I am done with both sides and already on my way, and if you have to chain up in mud, your box is going to get full of mud, and if the mud freezes, you cant get your chain out, doesn't work in real world but thanks for trying
Very good idea but alot of companies can not afford the space and weight on truck to mount this. Maybe logging trucks and such but daily longhaulers......doubt it.
It takes a lot longer to do it manually without this setup

Good to go John.
John Baker: A broom LOL it takes a hammer and snipe to get the crud out of the way in January when the temperature is -25C.
koko305 to be a 52

That was incredible! What an awesome way to handle a PIA job. Thanks for posting this!
Awesome! Last time I chained up over the Eisenhower, I dern near got frost bit! Great little doohicky you made there driver.
Thats hands down the best safety invention yet!! Hats Off to you!!
This is absolutely amazing, I am a truck and coach mechanic and I HATE putting chains on. This will make live so much easier
I am as well, this is just fucking awesome. I have never had to install chains but I know it's a pain in the ass.
I love this idea
This is a sweet set up I am a disabled trucker with bad back hips and knee replacements I can not put chains on without great problems so seeing this and how easy it is and wont hurt my back or knees its great idea. That’s the coolest thing I ever seen, as far as chains go.
That is the best invention I have seen!
Well done to the inventor!
A brilliant solution. I hope this goes into production soon.
Why aren't you a Multi- $Millionaire already? This is Huge for truckers battling snow and ice 6-8 months a year! Great Work!
Probaply because many of us truckers put chains on and off same amounth of Time without that machinen.
Where have you been I've driven otr for 35 plus years. Best damn thing I've seen since air conditioning
Best way ever to put on and take off chains period!
And when you get real good you can do both sides at once.. Hats off to this driver.
Buddy! That's one of the best ideas for chaining up I've seen. I hope you patented that.
i feel this i have to put chains on yard trucks all winter long manually. this is some
of best stuff i’ve ever seen. and i always think i have it down to a science.
That was totally painless, awesome.
I'm all for innovations, actually I spend the better part of my driving hours thinking of how I can improve stuff. I like this set up. Does this come standard with trucks now or are we still living in 2013?
Why would they tear up they are chains I would think they would be fine off road?
How can you not like this idea... It works... And makes a dirty job that much easier and faster...
A very good System. I am Driving an Peterbilt 359 13 Speed Double Over from 1981. my Big Boy has 3 Axles in The Back. And with an System like that it is very easy and fast. I am on The Iceroad every Year.
If not this guy himself, someone deserves a lot of credit for ingenuity.
This should be mandatory for all heavy trucks.....great invention....
Very nice. Soon everyone will be using it. Make sure you patent it.
Hope you already have.
Not A Trucker But I Think Its A Great Idea & Like You Said He's Taking His Time To Show How Its Done...
Great Thinking Trucker!!!!
That is slick! What a time saver!
I drive for a living.. And this is a great way to chain up. Less downtime on the side of a icy road..
daniel mendez and less numb fingers, jaja.
Bibo Thor who are you talking to?
udah. model. lama. thun. 97.aku.udah.pakek.dklimatan.tegah.aku.pak.slamet.sidik.skamamdang.b3spirtruk

Awesome!! And they go on tight the first go...
wow that was mint.

Dynamo Joe 57
Amazing, like the old swivel 1/4 fender trick..
Great concept but nothing is better than learning the old fashion way...Then maybe the easy way..Nice idea for sure!
THE 1.3K DISLIKES ARE FROM MEN LIVING IN THEIR MOTHERS BASEMENT!! NEVER DROVE TRUCKS , MUCH LESS EVER CHAINED UP!
THIS IS ASTOUNDING!👍👍👍👍👍👍
Lmao your absolutely right 🤣🤣🤣

When I got tired of chaining up, I went to turning wrenches. And I am good enough the boss leaves me alone.
james davies --> This is your boss, GET OFF YOUR PHONE, AND GET TO WORK! Thought I could leave him alone, former trucker.
Holy sheep shit that is a slick way to install chains. Dude you should sell that .Amazing

Thought about it, this rig would be awesome, if you had full lockers. On my outfit I'd just be chaining my tag axle.
Wished I'd had one of these when I was trucking
It looks like you can do the same thing if the chains were on a non motorized spool. The trucks wheels would unwind the chain.
WOW! This system is awesome!
If you run in snow, gotta be worth the purchase!
Extremely clever! I call that a keeper.
This is the best idea since sliced bread, well done.
Superb! Must have in Eastern Europe.
best setup I have ever seen...great!

They should show when you really need them in deep snow.
Though about that years ago !! great job guys !!!
It's a great concept but 1 you will have to keep your inter axel locked to bad you can skip the front and carry to rear drives 2 housing them with snow and ice they are going to freeze in that box and 3 if they do freeze yes officer I have chains just can't get them out of the box. What Idea !!!!
How about some small army tank pads for both axles? I gave an idea but you are the man my friend, you can do it for sure. Congrats.
I was thinking the same thing something to cover both drivers! Only problem I see is the some drivers might for get to engage the diff lockers!
Awesome idea but you should look up onspot or rotogrip automatic chains? Just not sure on dot regulations in your area. See them on plow trucks and school buses.

jeff jones I hope that a trucker with a moveable fender remembers to secure it properly or it will be swiveled into oncoming traffic
If there was a Nobel Prize in Trucking that guy should get it, can I get an AMEN?

Biggest advantaghe I can see is keeping chains neat and tidy
Love that set up

Nice, but if I going to put some tire chains on,i set it out till the road clean
lots of ingenuity to design. good for some one with bad {trucker} back

want see it with snow cover and when the chain get super hot when they be driving them will it still roll up
someone has given that a lot of thought.
What a great idea good on you

That's great.......right up until you have to chain up the second drive axle.
+Alex462047 The second drive axle will be on the opposite side, not behind the first drive.
And no trailer either
rbbrduck1 I think he was meaning the back axle not the opposite side duals.but I'm sure he could bungy strap chaina for front axle and back together and do back axle first.be neat to run 2 spools in the box 1 for front axle and the other and do both at the same time
Roger E. Erickson ahh it would be just as easy to set it up for trailer to.truck box was run off of pto.I'd say he could run a trailer one off of hydraulics
Really?
Wonder what it really is like in a snowstorm with a trailer attached . Otherwise looks great.
I use chains all the time im fast at chaining up but I think that is some kind of magic
You Sir are a Genius. I hope you have patented this and make millions If I was a Owner Operator I would want one for my rig. I didn't understand the part at the end with the Drum Trouble dials, what was that about? Be Well.
very cool idea!
Buen sistema. Haber si lo ponen en practica en EUROPA. Adelantariamos mucho.
This is luxury like a Jaguar !!!
Amazing job.
that's pretty slick...
wonder how many beaver pelts it cost ..

Very good idea but alot of companies can not afford the space and weight on truck to mount this. Maybe logging trucks and such but daily longhaulers......doubt it.
Where would I purchase something like this?
Hey man you found da answer to all N. American truckers , awsome
Muy bien hecho.
