Check out my latest Video back to last year when this truck has Series 60 Detroit in it. Completely different sound on the same truck!
• Long Grade Loud Jakes!...
For those of you wondering about the sound of the Jakes, After this video was recorded we replaced the Jake heads because one was wore out and a few broken feet. - Авто/Мото
Those dislikes must've been fabricated by RUclips. I've never seen men women girls or boys not like the music of a singing CAT
The dislikes are from the California Emissions Dept.
@@mphill1491 Ha! Sure! :D
Dislikes from people who drive quiet trucks
I love that sound
Absolutely 💯
This is how trucks last millions of miles, smooth operator.
Cats shift best at an easy lower rpm....if you know your shit you can hear when and how they like to be sticked.
They EASE into gear like a hot knife thru butter if you know what you are doing
I learned how to shift with no clutch thanks to my grandfather who drove trucks his entire adult life.
@@keithstew2956 I take it Detroits aren't your thing. I love this truck though. The 3406A was an ok engine too. Cats have the most torque in my book as they have the longest piston stroke out of most the truck engines and have heavy internals as well.
@@anthonysilva5015 match the RPM and she’ll fall right into gear
Soooo smooth rolling into the throttle after every perfect and unhurried shift. I spent a million miles behind a 3406B. Nothing better than a CAT singing bass. Great video and you know how to treat your equipment. 👍
Beautiful, music to my ears
I could fall asleep to this, my dad used to drive an 87 w900, I loved going on trips with him. 3406 is one of the best engines ever made, just smooth, deep torque and just the right amount of turbo. Beautiful engineering.
I mean I cam always go for more turbo, less duty cycle🤷♂️ have the power when u need it, get maps for when you want wicked fuel economy maps for different power levels and switch on the fly (dead heading or bob tailing)
Love those cat engines! I'm also a fan of the N14. Too bad emissions rules pretty much put the nail in the coffin for some of these older, truly great engines!!
@@rgnichols567 all emissions rules will be terminated!
There is nothing like hearing a kitty katt purrrrrr!
this is why you dont buy new, you restore and rebuild
I have a 94 377 Pete, 2nd owner, bought in 03, have replaced everything. All mechanical, the only problem I have now is nobody wants to sign on a truck that old. More reliable than anything they build today.
Amen to that
I agree.
My truck would be a ‘71 KW COE that is rebuilt/restored like the orange #Reliable-Carrier’s Peterbilt with sidepipes👍🏽🥰
@Scripturenest All I need is to last me until I retire which isn't to far away.
@Scripturenest not with own authority
Those 7-inch pipes have a sound of their Own, Soothe my soul...👌
Got 7 inch miter cuts on my ‘79 Kenworth W900A 3408 CAT. Damn man does she sound good.
Ain't nothin like em!
I love the way those pipes sound
Can smell the exhaust through my phone
Man, this video brings tears to my eyes. Nothing like the sound of a kitty cat purring away. Miss my old trucks
This is how I like to start my morning, listening to this and drinking some coffee. Man this is relaxing.
The feeling is mutual the road I live by has trains coming and going and you can hear the jakes also it's a beautiful thing
@@iamenergy9310 love the sound of distant trains also absolutely love it
Yes, I grew up in the 80's when you had straight stack big cam cummins and 3406 B model Cat. Miss those days
First thing in the morning, nothing sounds better than a purring kitty
Yup!
Jake brake at the end was my favorite!
That’s music to my ears! Really great looking and sounding truck! Hat’s off to the driver, he really knows what he is doing!
I could literally listen to this all day.
That is truly a beautiful machine. The roar of the engine sounds like a dream.
So smooth rolling in and out of the throttle to shift.
Good shifting. That is a real driver there.
i feel bad for the all truckers driving their stone dead quiet emissions choked trucks
LOUD SMOKEY PIPES SAVES LIVES!!! ;D
I agree......fuck the D.E.F. systems....nothing but problems & unnecessary restrictions.
Three words: straight. Pipe. Delete.
Except for when they are going down a grade def slows it down good
@@redline350zHR i agree with you loud pipes saves lifes
I love the sound of that in the morning with a fresh brew cup of coffee
As a class 8 diesel mechanic I would love to keep this person's truck up. Very smooth and easy. That's the way it should be!
That's the way i was taught how to drive..SMooooth as butter... Very nice job there Driver!! No Jake break every shift... only when needed!!
It’s harder to shift with the jake on anyway
Jake shifting is for two-stroke Detroit’s.
@@jimstenlund6017 never dove a Detroit, only jake shift when I forget to flick the switch lol
@@blauer2551 annoying isn’t it😆
@@jimstenlund6017 yes, it is very annoying 😂 when you’re not expecting it, it usually goes something like this. Vrrrooommm, brrr-crack!!
I don't sleep with a fan anymore! I just put this video on a loop! Music to my ears!
I like the sound of how you go easy on the engine. This video takes me back to when I learned to drive and got CDL in a 1974 Pete 359 (300 Cummins + turbo, 5x4x2 gearing with SSHD diffs for logging). Thanks.
Damn that was a monster in those days
My 1st trip to drive a 100 miles was a brand new 69 kenworth..... I was 15... this is what you call a truck driver... not some of these ass clowns I see on this damn RUclips. it is sad.....🙃
Gonna bet Elon musk won't think it sounds so great
the sound emitted by these exhausts is a song to my ears
Well that brought back memories of the 700K+ miles I put on my Pops's '81 359 with an opened up 3406A/15 Over/3.90's in the mountains of BC!
fantastic driving no abuse lovely gear changes great stuff
Yes, you can hear that bad Jake. Kinda like a mis-fire sound. I had run a 3408 in a 79 W900 in Great Falls Mt. Had a stripe down the drive shaft, once it made 180 degree rotation it was pulled and re-tubed. Owner always had a spare on the shelf. Hauled heavy equipment, D9G was the heaviest, then the crusher plant. He also had a Pete long nose with a 12V71T. Your right foot would cook when into hard pull. Right next to the throttle pedal was a bulge in the floor pan for clearance on the air compressor. Took 2 min people to pull hood open. Great truck for converting diesel into noise gotta say!
Not long after this video we ended up replacing the jake heads, they were worn out since new springs and o rings didn't help them. They are better then in this video now but still not that strong.
When I see I truck like this and i hear it just makes a smile on my face it’s kinda nostalgic for me bc my grandfather used to drive truck and take me on trips with him and don’t get me started on them down shifts
Let me just say this, after 32+ years of driving my favorite is still my 379 short nose, 525 N14 13 sp. running back and forth bet SoCal and Ky. Boss gave me the keys to it and said be careful it will do 107, I said that I didn’t care as long as I could drive the speed limit wherever I was going 😁😁😁😁😁
That engine brake made me smile so big lmao
The most awesome sound in the world!!! I could fall asleep to this!! Thank you for playing the song of our people!! #STRAIT PIPES SAVES LIVES
I can go to sleep listening to this. Reminds me of the 80s I would go to work with my dad on a Saturday and on the way home go to sleep listening to the 4 and a quarter cat going through gears.
My 80's was me shifting the 3406b, syncro trans, no clutch to those that don't know, and hoping to get home by Friday night or Saturday morning.
SHE SURE PURRS BEAUTIFUL! .. BEST OVER THE ROAD ENGINE EVER MADE . RELIABILITY A CRAP LOAD OF MILES AND STILL MAKE A DOLLAR EACH day AND GETs BACK HOME!! CATERPILLAR CADILLAC👍👍👍👍. I LOVE MY KITTY CATS!.
Enjoyed video very much, am retired truck driver and really miss the sound of that 3406 CAT.
I love these trucks they sound the BEST out of all the diesel trucks
Nice and easy, no drama, getting the job done well. Very professional.
That second of silence while shifting feels like the quiet before the storm! I m an heavy di equipment operator, but if i ever have a truck i Will shift exactly like this. Respect from Italy!!!
That's the reason why I prefer manual gearboxes. Even in motorsport... I think timeless shifting is overrated, at least on the sound experience it cannot match the suspense that you describe.
That sure sounds great and some smooth shifting too.
Broken TV huh?
I could listen to that engine to go to sleep at night. Sweet sound
The Jake at the end got me.
CAT DIESEL POWER . . . LEGENDARY FOR A REASON.
Those Jakes sound glorious! I could sleep to this.
Dude the first couple minutes is just pure music love it! 👍
In the past almost 25 years,I've slapped gears in all of em and non compare to a Pete period! If you've ever driven one,you know what I mean. Luv em!
Couldnt agree more driver
The make of the truck makes no difference. It’s the ENGINE!!!
Just...smooth. This operator isn't getting rambunctious with it, just taking it nice and easy.
Music to my ears...love it!
True
Awesome soundtrack he chose
I've watched this video 20x and still music to my ears👍
4:23 jakes! You’re welcome
How many people here do you think _didn't_ watch this until the end?
Had to slow down to 45 mph and that’s the best way to do it.
@@blauer2551 not in town doofus. The middle peddle does the same thing only it doesnt make you look like a just released swift driver.
@@asphaltassassin9049 if it isn’t posted save your brakes, and most non-modified exhaust isn’t as loud as his was. Swift trucks probably don’t even have jakes and they weren’t taught how to use them in truck driving school either. When I’m cruising a two lane and see a “reduced speed ahead”
sign and coasting doesn’t get me to the speed I’m flicking the switch. I carry a lot of weight, not like an 80k Swifty, and it’s a great tool to to have at my disposal. If you don’t like that sound tough shit.
@@asphaltassassin9049 I'm glad my crappy driving humored you to comment your righteous opinion so many times in my video lol. Using my jakes in rural Idaho in an industrial area makes me a p.o.s. I'll take it.
I like the sound of the stright pipes
Love the smooth easy operation, it sounds awesome! There's too many videos of guys revving the piss out of their poor engines just to show off.
Wish my uncle had a second chance to live so I can for once have a truck ride in his 1997 peterbilt 379...
Rip "Ted" an uncel who will not stop forgetting about his life in the open road...
1960-2020
"I want to die in the open road with ether my bike or my truck"
My condolences.
Sleep well uncle ted.....cats purring with the jakes for you 👍🏾💪🏾
RIP UNCLE TED GREETS FROM OUR CATERPILLAR FAMALY GREETZ HOLLAND
It's cool watching the cab move with the torque between shifts as the chassis twists !! She be pulling her weight 🇺🇲👍👍👍👍👍
This literally brings a tear to my eye. I spent months on the road as a kid with my dad as an over the road trucker, he had a 3406B though. Just listening to this it feels like I'm in the passenger seat again.
Glad you enjoyed. I'm also building An 87 Pete with a 3406B which I hope to do a similar video when it gets it in the road
A lovely symphony, music to my ears, Thanks for sharing this! Love it.
Want a truck to sound like this one day
One of the best Sound videos I’ve ever seen. Greetings from a German driver
Love the throaty sound of the pipes!! Awesome!
Smooth shifting and sound amazing love the Tommy gun jake sound
3406 n 3408 were THE BEST
Drove Cat and Cummins for 45 years.
Nothing purrs like a kitty cat! Love that sound!
Finally .... a real ASMR video for my taste .
That sound from 7 in pipes is awesome
I want to drive one of these trucks when I get old enough
Nothing puts a smile on my face faster than seeing a truck rolling coal, and hearing that engine through those stacks! 🤙🤤🤙💦💨💨💨
Hot dang you sho shifting good and soundin good 😂😂
Last time I heard that sound was when I had one of my overhauled engine on the rollers at the Derm.
Great sound, like the turbo breathing, thanks for the memories!
Making FIRE in the hole.
Gives me the "mudrunner"- Feeling 😂 Love it
My 2nd "father" growing up had a 78' Pete with the an extended hood and a 3408 underneath. Hia buddies used to say..."he's got a 3408, and he's never late!" After than was a 3406 with 600hp.
Extended hood 359 with a 3408 would be so cool today
What for an Amazing Sound!!! I Love this Truck!!!
I got 5 trucks now in my fleet. 2 I had for a while which are tractors. I bought 2 dump trucks. I bought a single drive axle dump truck not long ago for cheap and it needs a small bit of worth especially with the body. I’d love to do another restoration project and find a 359 Peterbilt with a CAT engine or something good. Beautiful rigs
Nothing sound as good as cat motor ❤
What FLOOR IT NOO don’t floor it OK FLOOR IT Noo SpongeBob don’t floor OK Floor it FLOORS IT 😂😂😂 DAMN THAT Jake brake holy shit sounds amazing
Smooth... Love it... Now that's what a truck should sound like... 👌👍💪
Beautiful my dude, beautiful.... orchestra level.
How do you know it is a dude, might be a dudette?
Tis the sweet mechanical symphony of keeping America moving.
Loud pipes save lives with jake brakes
Wow that sounds so dam good...in fact this is a stress relieve.....
Cats have a fantastic engine...deep bore so less revving...
Thanks for sharing your video, the ol Pete sounds great. And that’s some beautiful country up there! 😎
Now THAT is a beautiful sounding Kitty!!!
Notice the truck never jumps or jerks, that's a smooth experienced driver that makes the truck pull seamlessly. I think you'd snap a drive line before bogging down a 3406. Those were straight up torque monsters.
Why I found myself about to duck, when he drove under the traffic light 🚦 😂
That’s on my bucket list, to ride along in a Pete. Awesome sound, WOW. Thanks!!!
nice bit of gear changing there, very smooth.
That rev matching is Walter Rohrl level..
Thats not just sound, thats symphony!
Love it. Reminds me of my old B model 3406 I had in a 81 Pete with 36” sleeper @ 370 wheelbase. That thing would paw at the ground.
Got an 84 3406 b model all redun with a Pittsburgh power boss ND a 15 speed double over with a new 2 speed over drive for a twin stick and just getting going about almost 200 milesbut luv it already
I built 3406E's & C's at Mossville in 1995-1996.
Beginning to seriously like KittyCATs ,lovely slow changes hearing the Kitty purr as you back off the throttle.Old Pete is too quiet ,a set of short straight narrow bore stove pipes compressing the exhaust gases ,makes the Kitty Meow Louder, wider the bore the quieter the exhaust.
You are so right about modern day wagons(trucks) with all the charisma of a Korean Washing Machine or s German Blender.
I’m not even a trucker and I loved this video. Who are the 22 idiots that disliked this?
I love the sound of a Rig going through the gears, Always wanted to drive a Big Rig it just never happened
The sweet sound that makes everything in this world possible. Hats off to you.
I can watch this video all day what’s beautiful sound 😀
Piękny dźwięk silnika :) Miło posłuchać :)
I used to live in bonners and work in libby soon as i seen this i was like idaho! If you kept filming you were headed down into bonners by the kootnie river inn im pretty sure. Our storage unit was back where you pulled out we had a unit across from the gun range! lol i was like i lived there 7 years i spotted old home instantly! good shit!
Slick shifting, nicely done!
Sounds great driver, thanks for sharing
Heck yeh, run the older trucks, the further back you go the more soul they have and you can work on them. If you know how to tune one, an old mechanical will run almost as clean as a new one and definitely won’t have the electronic bugs to chase. Good ol EPA, costs billions to bring all the trucks into compliance and put the small guy out on his ass again.
I’m willing to bet that is some of the reason they bailed on trucking during Covid.
@@GORT70 yeh and everything else, it’s getting crazy
Music to my ears‼️‼️👌🏾🔥🔥
Jeremy J-Rackz TV Sure is sweet music!!😊
driven like a pro.
