Thank you, Angela! 😊
It takes a wise man to realise when he’s had enough Phil. So glad you did the wise thing and hope you’re fully recovered by now. See you next time.
😊
Purple Heart nearly put me in the ground. I'm thankful you bailed out when you did.
😊
Thank you for sharing Phil. Like the great sage once said, "a man has to know his limitations". You give us the truth and we take it to heart. Stay awesome brother.
😀
So sorry you got ill but I'm so glad you did this educational video to warn other turners! Great job Phil 👏
Thanks, Duchess! Doing better, now! 😊
Like we used to say back in my railroading says “STOP THE TRAIN”. Glad you stopped when you did Phil…
😊
Gosh Phil, a nice looking burl turned nasty 😢 take care & recover, cause we all want to see u again next week 😊
Thanks, Karen! 😊
Ouch!! I'm glad there were no lasting effects!
Me too! 😊
Glad your OK phil, you were right to throw it away, take care
😊
I'm so glad you took the warning and bailed on this piece of who-knows-what that was! Looked like a beautiful day for a ride in the woods!
Me too, thank you! 😊
Very wise move, better safe than sorry.
😊
So glad you’re doing ok! See you next time.
😊
Wow! I’m so glad there weren’t any long lasting problems from whatever was in that wood. Close call for you but no one’s fault except the person who originally sold it and maybe he didn’t know either. A jaunt on your jazzy “vehicle” is the perfect prescription for a complete recovery! 👍💕😊
Thank you, BobbieJean! 😊
Good call to trash that burl! We all want you safe and well.
😊
Holy cow! I’m glad you’re ok!
😊
Wow! That’s was interesting. Good thing you stopped when you did Phil. Also I love your 4 wheeler. Lots of acceleration in that one.
That thing will go anywhere and in a hurry, Cosmo! 😊
Good choice, not worth harming yourself with 👍
😊
glad you are all right and knew when to put that piece away... NICE BURN OUT HOT ROD... love yall...
Thanks, Jack! 😊
Wow Phil, so glad you are alright and knew when to stop! Thanks for sharing this. It's so important to keep reminding each other that while this is a wonderful craft, it is not without risks. Especially after everything you've been through the last year or so, grateful you're ok. 💗
Thank you, Kim! 😊
WOW that's incredible glad you're okay! Maybe take it to your nearest University and see if they can tell what's going on with it! NICE weeler stay safe in it Phil!👍
Thank you, I will 😊
I agree with the one person that said they were glad you bailed out on this turn. Your health is more important than any piece of wood. I appreciate this video for the knowledge it gives. Keep taking care of yourself we want you around. Have a great day and hope we see you soon on another video.
Workin' on the next one now, Lynda, thank you! 😊
Sorry you had problems. I am glad you stopped when you did. But looks like you headed out to get some good fresh air.

Thank you, John! It's what we call a Side By Side, two seater mostly off-road vehicle but I drive it around the city quite a bit. 😊
Wow glad you're ok Phil!
😊
Love that side by side
Me too! 😊
Gad to see you make the right call with that.
I had a reaction to Hickory while building a set of cabinets years ago that put me in the hospital for five days. I don't build with Hickory any more.
Looking forward to seeing your next video!
Good plan, stay safe! 😊

😊
So glad you are OK. From the title I knew something was going to happen, but I didn't expect THAT! Hope your wee drive got some fresh air back into your lungs.
😊
Phil - I am VERY glad you stopped. Frankly it did not look good to me, but what do I know.
😊
Glad you are alright Phil! Too bad that happened, that was a really interesting piece of wood! And, I think Tuffy, knew exactly what he was doing, I wouldn't trust him! Just kidding! LOL!
LOL! Thanks, Bryan! 😊
GERRRRRR😖😖😖😖😖😖 (I am so glad Phil is OK now) .. also.. (I wouldn't trust that "Tuffy" dude either, ha).... TM
Glad you are ok
😊
So good to hear that what ever it was is now cleared up, Thank you for the warning and sharing
😊
Good choice.
😊
Glad you’re feeling better.
😊
Wow. That really does look like a big branch from an old pine tree, that it tried to close up but never managed before the tree gave up the ghost. No real way to tell by looking at it, but you are right on with the fatwood comment. I mean, it's got more kerosene in it than actual wood fibers, so it's not really fair at all. That being said, sometimes you can make some amazing things out of weird beginnings. But everyone has their own unique immune system, and so their own bunch of allergies, and I can speak from experience when I say that I have nearly died from encounters with very common substances that I can't tolerate. For instance, Aspirin lands me in the ER, and if I don't make it fast enough, I will suffocate from the swelling and fluid buildup. I can't wait till your next video, next time, Phil.
Whoa, scary stories William! 😊
Wow 😳
😊
That's why I like watching you. I always learn something, you're always positive, and that was a fun exit. Hope it was a good drive.
Thanks, Mike! 😊
Man!! Glad u got away when u did Phil and very glad u rebounded. Take care and thx!
😊
Thanks for showing this one , we all need a reminder that things are sometimes out of our control. Glad you ok
😊
Love your dune buggy thingy. And the little birdies!
LOL! Yeah, those birdies are everywhere! 😊
That's a shame! That Burl is pretty. Don't feel bad Tuffy! You couldn't have known.
So glad you're OK Phil!
😊
I am still keeping my fingers crossed for Phil. I also will look very close to any future wood I send that's for sure!!!.... TM
Ohhhh the hidden dangers in the wood we work with. Hope you get to feeling better. Glad you showed what we could come accross. Keep up the amazing work. 👽
Yup, guess we gotta be careful all the time! 😊
Glad you are OK. Great little set of wheels!
😊
I was in the Coast Guard and dealt with creosote pilings for Aids to Navigation. That piece of wood looks like it was soaked in creosote. Albeit not a very good job because the whole thing wasn't black. Just my humble opinion. Glad you are feeling better and are safe. Take Care.
Thanks, Roger! 😊
Whoa, I’m sorry Phil that happened. I’m glad you stopped when you did. 🙏❤️
😊
Glad you're ok, Loved the ending of the video!!😊
😊
So glad you're feeling better! I've had days working in my shop where I don't feel that great after a cpl hrs. And then realize that I hadn't been wearing my respirator. But nothing as bad as what you went through. See you on the next one Phil and stay safe and healthy!!!👍
Thanks, Ron! 😊
Glad to know you're all good... I plan to watch you for years to come. Best of health, happiness, and wealth to you and yours!!! Thanx 4 sharing and I'll keep watching!!! ✌️😎👍
Good to know, thank you! 😊
Your little green golf-cart is awesome!
My yard sale vehicle! 😊
So glad you showed us what can go wrong with wood and how it can affect our health. Your work is excellent. Keep on keeping on.
Thanks for watching! 😊
I am so glad you are well. That is what matters Sr.
Thank you, Reba! 😊
Thanks for sharing this Phil - makes it important to be absolute safe around suspicious wood!
Very true! 😊
That was a bit of a worry, I suppose you wouldn’t know until the symptoms come on, glad you are okay and glad you bagged it and got rid off it, nice quad machine you have there, doing a burnout trying to catch up to Tuffy heading to the Mexican border 😂.
All the best to you.
Regards Jim
Haha, I dang near caught him, too, Jim! 😊
Smart move. Got have an enjoyable ride.
Yes indeed! 😊
Oh my! I'm so glad you recovered from whatever it was that affected you from the strange piece of wood!
Thank you, Annette! 😊
Wow Phil, so glad you recovered from that quickly. Looking forward to the next one. Hopefully you had an enjoyable ride.
The ride was great, Mark! Gonna do it again today, hit some yard sales! 😊
Glad you are feeling better. Be safe. Glad it was a short one tonight I was working on a turning and had to stop to fix dinner now it's early I can go back to it
There ya go, Bum! 😊
Scary! So glad you’re ok now, thank you for sharing the dangers!
😊
I understand completely Phil, I'm looking forward to your next one, get plenty of rest my friend!
😊
Well sometimes you just gotta get away from the dangerous dust and go do something that's also fun. Hope your ride was as exciting as the take off ❤thanks for your words of wisdom
😊
Sorry for you Phill hope you feel better soon and good luck with the next project
😊
Im used to seeing a burl with bark on it. All of the tiny swirls are wonderful!
😊
So glad you are okay. Nice set of wheels. See you next week.
😊
Last fall I brought home a little piece of a small tree that fell over, and thought it was wild cherry, because of the smooth bark. But it was olive green, inside and softer than cherry. After turning a rough shape while it was wet, planning to let it dry, before finishing, I developed a full body hive reaction and difficulty breathing. I haven't finished it, yet, but sure wonder what it is. Maybe some kind of sumac. A good treatment for such reactions is a Tagamet and a Benadryl pill. Each blocks a different allergic reaction.
Let's be careful out there... 😊
We had a lot of buckeye trees on our previous farm but I never saw one that big. Very interesting piece.
😊
Thanks Phil, glad you stopped.
I turned some Ipe wood and also had a reaction.
😊
Wow Phil, I so glad you are ok.
With that reaction you made the right choice.
Nice Quad.
Take care my friend and I'll join you for tea in the morning when I watch again.
Cheers, Huw
Thanks, Huw! I think I'll blame the one I'm working on now on this one. My brain must still be foggy cause it ain't going so good! LOL! 😊
Great exit! Nice toy!
😊
Again, thank you for sharing. Who wood of known. This was very useful information for me because I turn quite a bit of fog wood and ditch wood. Ill keep this in the back of my mind. And keep safe.
Yup, gotta know what you are dealing with but, sometimes it's just plain hard to know! 😊
Hi Phil im glad you stopped when you did i was worried while watching the video at the point you stopped. Glad you put the video out to show that everyones health and wellbeing comes first, im glad you recovered and are well . Take care see you on the next video. God bless you Phil xxxx Amanda
Thank you so much, Amanda! 😊
Phil. I’m so glad you are ok. Hope I never rue into something like that. A couple of weeks ago I sent you a note about a piece of wood I had. I think you have once again solved my problem. Your turning of Defects Can Be A Great Feature pretty well answers my problem
Excellent, I'm glad it helped, thanks, Dave! 😊
glad you are ok.
😊
Wow Phil we know how fast things can change. Good that you were able to realize something so quickly. So much thanks. The wheels on that buggy looked like about 550rpm. I hope I see you on the next one
Thanks, Albert! 😊
The end was great. I like that shade of green, as long as you weren't that shade when you finally pitchedthat wood.
😊
Glad you survived! Be careful because you never know what is in or what was on a tree (poison ivy for instance)! Greg
😊
Wow. That was scary. Glad you’re ok.
Thank you, Vickie! 😊
Wow Phil! I have worked with smelly fog wood before and never thought of something like this making you sick! I’m soooooo glad you are ok! That sounded very scary! And wow thats a nice ride you have there!
Thanks, Mike! 😊
Wow! Well there ya go! Who knew?? Glad you’re OK. Cheers, Rick
I sure didn't know, Rick but I do now! 😊
Glad you stop when you did! I had a similar experience with padauk but stupid me kept going. The sanding got fine dust into my lungs even through my mask. I was absolutely miserable for days.
Oh, yeah, that doesn't sound like fun, Bill. 😊
