When I see that Phil has posted a new video 😂 I break out in the biggest smile! Must be pretty cool to be able to cause people to smile thousands of miles distant from the Shady Acres woodshop!
Olive wood, I have two little figurines of Joshua and Caleb with a cluster of grapes I bought in Bethlehem in the early 80's on a trip to Israel It is beautiful as is all Olive wood. Watching you turn this piece reminds me just how beautiful olive wood is. Great job Phil. God Bless You Phil!
Awesome piece Phil, You know.............as long as we are both alive you will have olive wood to turn, until I run out and we know that wont happen. Glad to see you where able to keep the bark on this one. Love the bark inclusion with the two branches. The wonders of nature and your sense of approach to a piece, thank you for sharing my friend
Suprise Suprise Suprise It hid the secret inside well but you know to reveal it. It was not able to keep his secret from the master. Now I can say I say it too! Thank you for sharing it with us. KEEP ON TURNING
Great piece! Isn't it wonderful what nature does to create beauty. You always let that speak in your work. Thanks for the efforts and for sharing. Much appreciated. Keep on keeping on my friend.
It is such a lovely wood. I have some nice size pieces waiting for me to make even more beautiful. LOL. Sitting here at my desk, I see a grove just 50m away and have the farmer's permission to collect any that falls.
Phil an even lovelier story is a very dear friend's house is on a couple acres bounded by a gorgeous little creek. She is slowly removing the feral species along the creek and replacing with natives. Lots of old Olives. She says I can take what I want. But one of her boys' hobby is making rustic furniture from Olive and I won't interfere with his supply. What he makes is just gorgeous. Authentic old joinery techniques with no metal fixing. I love what he does.
Your right about the beauty of the wood. I've never had any olive wood to work with. Maybe some day I'll have another lathe. I'm sure missing it. Keep up the good work Phil. I sure enjoy your videos.
Just wanted to tell you that I love your videos. I watch them all the time. I love the way you explain things so that I, new to turning, can understand. I have learned so much from you. Thank you so much. Sheryl Mackay. Queensland. Australia.😅
Another beautifully crafted piece of art. I just love watching you do your magic. I think this is the most current video I've seen yet. Good to see you looking so well. Take Care, Bill Riley
Phil, like this bowl. All the grain, inclusions, features, and bark! Glad you didn't (don't) filling holes in the bowl with whatever. Outcomes normally never turnout well,
Phil. That Olivewood made a stunning Bowl I know you don't sell your bowls but that would have been the second one I would have asked to buy I just love your work Phil
Good evening, Phil. Just about bed time here. I will have visions of Olive wood dancing in my head. Olive definitely is a gorgeous wood to turn. Olive is also Popeye's girlfriends name. I guess it's Olive Oyl. Your bowl is cool and the special features are a wonderful bonus. Speaking of a bonus, you still have the other half of the piece for another turning. Nice.
Yes, it was fun to watch Phil. Great piece, grain, bark, and that little branch. It seems like there is always something of interest in your turnings. Cosmo from Billerica, Ma.
I’m like some, and do not like resins. There’s NOTHING WRONG WITH NATURAL wood texture w/o ANY artificial bs. Love the Olive wood wrk. Keep it turnin Phill.
We have a lot of olive groves where I live. The angular and knotty branches and trunks are beautiful. The way you turn the wood gives homage and captures that beauty.
Hi 👋 Phil from Phil, I hope you are keeping safe and well, another great looking piece of art, including branch, inclusions, last weekend I went to the local garden centre and actually looked at some of the olive trees for sale. I coughed and splattered a bit. They started at nearly €1000 in price and went up 2000 odd euros what day is the most expensive?, I’ve told one of my colleagues that are seeing some olive 🫒 trees . He’s got a couple of branches from olive tree that somebody gave him a few years ago back in the UK., The way you are holding the ball on the lays is the safest way, as you are in complete control of it, using the life centre holding up against the piece of wood, I did think about a vacuum shock , but if you’ve got inclusions and holes going to like you have, sometimes you would never fair to hold it, because it would draw the air through the voids, and of course, if you have the right type of head stuck with a hole going through it to connect a vacuum, Chuck set up right, Your why is the only way that is the safest way, Stay Safe, Phil from the moulin France.
Man, olive is so incredibly beautiful. When other woodturners remove the tenon in a way other than the way you do, I figure they're doing it incorrectly. 😂
That looks so good. I have a friend who lives in Italy and has over 60 olive trees on his land - if only I could get at them! It would probably be easier for me to move out there with him and encourage him to buy a lathe! 🙂
Phil, Your best videos make me smile 😋. I was smiling at this one before that chunk of wood was ever touched by a tool. Keep the aspidistra flying! God bless, Paul
Olive wood is one of nature's treasures, at least for woodturners. You did it proud, Phil! Love all the features you highlighted. Beautiful bowl! Thanks!
Morning Phil, That is a beauty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Olivewood never disappoints in my mind. I have used it a lot in pens but only a few small bowls. Great video Phil and as I've already said that is a beauty. Take care my friend. Cheers, Huw
Olive overall is simply beautiful. I don’t blame you for wanting make it last. It’s unfortunate that we don’t have better access to it. Lovely bowl you’ve shared with is. Thank you.
Hi Phil the Olive wood is beautiful it has really nice grain and bark and the nooks and crannies it's awesomeI love it, nature is fantastic. The bowl with the live edge is magnificent, unique like all your pieces you turn. Stay safe and take care of yourself please continue with your master woodturning. Thanks for a marvellous video love from Amanda xxxx
The whole thing is my favourite, those little branches are very cool, that is really nice wood and it was fun to watch, thanks Phil. All the best to you. Regards Jim
That's so beautiful shame were the wrong side of the pond, that piece is mine, marking's are some of the best we've seen, and we've seen you turn some beauty's. All the best from the wrong side of the pond Lincolnshire UK
Phil, I have found your method of removing the tenon is the most effective and easy method. I hate having to have to install a set of jaws to just remove a tenon then remove them for another set so thumbs up to your method. And yes the bowl is terrific. Thanks for sharing your expertise young man.
You are so right when you said that is beautiful wood. I so like the live edge bowls. I hope to learn to make them as beautiful as you do. When I can, I think I’m gonna invest in one of those Sando flexes for the bark. I almost have the knack for removing the tendon like you do almost. You have been a good teacher and I really enjoy your videos. Thank you so much for sharing your talent.
I was able to bring back some olivewood turnings from Tunisia about forty years ago. We don't use them; they are far too beautiful to look at, as is this piece. Great job!
Phil, I have to agree Olive wood is really lovely and you did a great job there, you comment on the big jaws made me laugh as I did exactly the same thing I think I used the three time, to much faffing around with them as well. Smashing bowl
I have turned a bunch of Olive wood. I agree with you Phil, it is a very hard and difficult wood to turn. However, when done, one of the most beautiful woods. I have not posted any on my RUclips Channel as I need to acquire more. Beautiful job.
Picked up a Longworth chuck at same location as the steady rest. Used it last week. Bowl moved even with the tailstock up. It’s yours if you want it.😜😵💫🤣🤣🤣 Will be sticking with the pressure chuck method, even with flat rims!!! Nice piece of Olive, nice results. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hi Phil. great job, hope your well. I love turning olive wood I find it a pleasure to do & the outcome like yours is beautiful & the smell that comes from the wood well I love it. Keep turning
Wow Phil that was one fine piece of turning of a very hard piece of wood. My shoulder is hurting just watching you cut it. It looks amazing with those little bonus branches. When you held the bottom side up and showed the branch it looked like turtle sticking his head out. I had a lot of fun watching you do your magic on this one. Take care, Gary
Hi Phil. What an interesting piece. It is true that every piece has its own history and features. There is something new in every turn. Lovely result. Overnight temps are starting to go down. Daytime highs too. So relieved. I know there's lots of forest fire smoke north of you. Hope you're not in the path. Take care. Have a great week.
Thank You Phil, Thank You Dan from Los Vegas.... At the 13 min mark I like the chips flying in the camera, nice touch Phil. That gouge is getting quite short, and I suspect it has traveled through all your shows? Quite attractive and a VERY entertaining show today Phil (I love that Olive wood) ...... TM
It is fun to watch those chips fly right atcha, Tuffy! Plays heck with all the little joints and ins and outs on the camera but it's fun to watch! LOL! Thank you, my friend! 😊
I enjoy all of your videos they are informative and just amazing to watch you take any type of wood piece and make it a show piece keep the videos coming
Your turning is a lot like the turning I wrote you about having a hole in it. My project did not turn out as good as yours. Mine sort of fell apart. The visible hole was much longer and wider than I thought it was. My turning more or less blew apart. You have turned another beautiful piece Phil. I enjoy watching how your turnings take shape
I love watching your videos. The best part is I get to hear my great friend Phil’s voice and see him at the same time. Love your work too of course! ❤
I'm so glad you enjoy the videos, Colleen and thanks for the kind words about my work! 😀
I have some olive wood drying and after seeing this I can’t wait to use it
You'll love it, I'm sure! 😊
When I see that Phil has posted a new video 😂 I break out in the biggest smile! Must be pretty cool to be able to cause people to smile thousands of miles distant from the Shady Acres woodshop!
It seems to work in both directions, Chris! Now I have a big smile on my face! 😊 Thank you so much!
They sound beautiful, Bob! Thank you! 😊

Thanks for watching and commenting! 😊
That's beautiful, Phil. You can't go wrong with olive wood. If you look at the inside with the inclusion at the top, it looks like a heart.
Bill
I have to look again, Bill. A few comments mention the heart! 😊
Olive wood is a beautiful wood. You can get so much out of it. It really turns out beautiful. Thanks for sharing this video.
😊
Great piece! Isn't it wonderful what nature does to create beauty. You always let that speak in your work. Thanks for the efforts and for sharing. Much appreciated.
Keep on keeping on my friend.
Many thanks, Bob! 😊
It is such a lovely wood. I have some nice size pieces waiting for me to make even more beautiful. LOL. Sitting here at my desk, I see a grove just 50m away and have the farmer's permission to collect any that falls.

Thank you, Steven! 😊
I’ve seen 2000 year old Olive trees. I lived in Israel and they made everything from olive wood. I love the wood
Wow, amazing! 😊
When you cut that log in half, I was just in awe at the beauty of the Olive Wood and you certainly did it justice, Phil!
Thank you, Carol! 😊
A real beauty with the branches as special feature - well done Phil, you brought it to shine.
Thanks, Bruno! 😊
Interesting feature with the merge of the two branches inside the bowl. Beautiful finish. 🫒
Glad you like it! 😊
It's your talent to bring the beauty from any piece of wood. God bless you.
Thank you, Reba! 😊
Flawless? That’s funny since it’s all flaws and what makes it so beautiful. You’re great to listen to, keep it up.
Thank you! 😊
I believe the gizmo you’re talking about is a suction cup. Several wood turners use it…👍❤
I think you are talking about vacuum chucks. I was referring to a Longworth chuck. Still, my way works and is free! 😊
Just wanted to tell you that I love your videos. I watch them all the time. I love the way you explain things so that I, new to turning, can understand. I have learned so much from you. Thank you so much.

Great video Phil and as I've already said that is a beauty.
Take care my friend.

I'm sure they use only the best parts in pen blanks, Huw. You are seeing the best it has to offer! Thanks, buddy! 😊

Fabulous Phil. Olive wood is so beautiful but the grain is hidden and needs to be revealed. That's where you excel. Magnificent
Thank you, Barry! 😊
You are a lucky fellow to have a few pieces to work. Around here all we can get is Russian Olive. You did the piece justice.
Thank you, Chris! I know just how lucky I am! 😊
Phil, I have found your method of removing the tenon is the most effective and easy method. I hate having to have to install a set of jaws to just remove a tenon then remove them for another set so thumbs up to your method. And yes the bowl is terrific. Thanks for sharing your expertise young man.
Thanks, Kid! I don't think I have changed jaws in about three years! 😊

😊
Very nice looking bowl. Never had Olive wood to work with. On my list of to-do's!
Thanks 👍
Very beautiful Phil. Terry downunder
Thanks, Terry! 😊
Wow, Phil! This one's a jewel. Is there any chance of a vase from the other half that you cut? What a gem. Thanks a bunch, Phil.
Well, maybe, Kersi. I think the bark was off that other side, right? If so, a vase would probably work pretty well!
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop that would be a home run for sure. Can't wait! :)
That's one heck of a beautiful piece Phil, thanks once again for a great show.
😊
Beautiful bowl with some really unique features, Olive is such a pretty wood, well done and thanks!
Cheers Al
Thank you, Al! 😊 Cheers!
Awesome Phil! The grain just pops. A beauty for the books 🤩
Thanks 👍
You are so right when you said that is beautiful wood. I so like the live edge bowls. I hope to learn to make them as beautiful as you do. When I can, I think I’m gonna invest in one of those Sando flexes for the bark. I almost have the knack for removing the tendon like you do almost. You have been a good teacher and I really enjoy your videos. Thank you so much for sharing your talent.
Thank you so much, Lynda! 😊
A truly a gorgeous piece, Phil! Awesome grain and so much character!
Glad you like it, Billy, thanks! 😊
I turn Mock Olive wood. The same as Olive. It has spectacular grain. One of the best. Nice job on the olive bowl Phil!
😊
I was able to bring back some olivewood turnings from Tunisia about forty years ago. We don't use them; they are far too beautiful to look at, as is this piece. Great job!

Phil, I have to agree Olive wood is really lovely and you did a great job there, you comment on the big jaws made me laugh as I did exactly the same thing I think I used the three time, to much faffing around with them as well. Smashing bowl

Phill I grew up in the middle of an olive orchard with old growth olive trees thank you for doing such a nice job with a difficult wood to turn

Good to know, Valerie! Sometimes simple is best! 😊

Oh, man, I gotta go look for the turtle! Thank you so much, my friend, see you tomorrow! 😊
Had a little smoke, not bad. 😊 Temps were down and now we are looking at the 90's the next couple days!
Another georgous piece of art
