    Another one to Joker's credit : Death Has The Last Laugh.
    A man and his entire family are murdered by the Joker for daring to testify against a criminal, even though Joker didn't even know him or the criminal against whom he testified. This enraged Batman so much that he snaps and decides to hunt down the Joker to kill him.
    Direct quote : (Caps for bold text)
    Gordon: « BATMAN... I know how you feel, but remember, we represent the LAW, not our own personal emotions or hatreds ! No vigilante stuff ! »
    Batman: « I make no promises. You'd better catch THE JOKER before I do... if you want him ALIVE ! »
    And oh the dark irony of the ending ! XD
    Batman has cooled down by that time, but should he have ? Since the crime turns out to be... well, read it if you want to find out ! ^_^

    Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #16 - 20. In the Venom storyline, Doctor Randolph Porter staged his daughter’s kidnapping and murdered her to get a young Batman to feel guilty about not being able to save her. He then got Batman hooked on Venom and almost got him to kill Gordon for him. He literally turned Batman into a junkie! Bats locked himself away in the Batcave and went through hell to quit cold turkey. He also almost relapsed afterward, at one point. I would say that counts as a villain that broke the Bat.

      In Armageddon 2001 (1991 release date) Batman fought with Guy Gardener and took his ring from him. The ring actually was absorbed onto his hand in the fight. He became a Green lantern before turning down the ring due to him fearing what he might become. He has also taken the ring off of Hal Jordon when they first met after New 52 reboot. And, in the Dark Knight Metal story he gets the ring after his parents are killed and used his will power then to over ride the rings programing so he could kill Joe Chill. All of these things are impossible to do for anyone without great will power. I don't think I have ever seen another story where the ring is removed without killing the wearer or at least cutting off their arm, hand or ring finger.

      In what storyline did this happen??

    • @cmpork7145
      @cmpork7145 4 года назад +1

      @@fenrir139 in their defense, it was a combined thought process that was to help protect people compared one man's paranoia that was made true just for plot and an excuse to validate Batman's sole and flawed concept of justice. Batman's selfishness has no bounds, so he can sleep better at night (or day) has put too much effort into protecting the Joker, a monster who's capable of so much casualties and havoc and in alternate timelines proven to do even worse evils. It's one thing if he doesn't want to kill out of his own preference, mental weakness to differentiate proper context to justify taking lives and a general lack of moderation, but to obstruct others from doing what he doesn't want to do that would be a service to Gotham and the world is something else. Batman will go to no ends trying to justify his deeds while criticizing others for doing the same thing. So it's understandable why the group would see the man who's way too stubborn, jaded, paranoid and dangerous as a problem

      Not really. Firstly he attacked his own teammates. He didn't try to talk or reason with them, he immediately resorted to violence against people that trusted him. Second, while mental tampering IS a lousy thing to do to a comrade, how did it effect him, really? Zatanna didn't force him to do anything against his will, she didn't re-write his personality, she didn't erase some cherished memory that brought him great joy. He lost two minutes of memory at most and again, Zatanna only did that in self-defence.

    No Talon/Court of Owls? They made Batman go crazy while trapped in a labyrinth in darkness for days without any food our water.
    He was ready to give up and accept his fate when they were beating him to death, but noticing a picture of his grandfather on a wall and realising that the court also killed him got him into rage mode which managed to get him to fight back and escape.

    You forgot Deathstroke in his early solo series Slade viciously beat Batman to a pulp. Bronze Tiger, also. In the story where Cathy Kane died Bronze Tiger beat him in hand to hand combat. Bronze Tiger was brainwashed and was involved in Cathy's murder. That definitely counts as a time where Batman was broken.

    • @jrthe2nd494
      @jrthe2nd494 4 года назад

      This list is kind of confusing in the sense that "broken" needs more context. Losing fights isn't going to break someone like Batman...he knows there are small number of people out there who can beat him physically, and he doesn't always expect to come out on top against opponents like Shiva, or Bronze Tiger. What I find more interesting about Batman is that he's constantly holding back against his opponents. Here they are going full tilt trying their best to kill him, and he's doing his best NOT to kill them. When you think about it like that, it kind of makes some of his opponents victories hollow.
