Say Al... I would love to see you get fit to a set of these (or chunky Mizuno, Titleist etc.) Gap test them, then play a match vs your gaming irons. No one ever does this, but most pros declare "these are obviously not for me..."

I was fitted into these 425 irons and they felt great and performed well for me. I know 3 friends who are playing these 425’s, and they love them. Two were playing the sim irons and one was playing the ts titleist. I should be getting my 425 irons the end of this month. I was playing the older rogues not to be confused with the new callaway rogues. My bag will be as follows. U wedge thru 6 iron ping g 425. 54 degree callaway jaws. Scottie Cameron older Newport putter. 3,4 and 5 big Bertha hybrids. 3 and 5 ping 425 fairway metals and ping g425 Max driver. I have had the ping driver since last March. The dispersion of this 425 driver is the best I have ever owned and the distance is longer by about 9-12. So this is my two cents worth for the Ping g425 clubs.
I've got reasonable swing speed and tried these with a Ust recoil smacwrap 780 stiff graphite shaft got great distances with great spin... 7 iron at 6350 spin but so easy to hit
I have an above-average swing speed (105 mph for driver, 85 mph for 7 iron). I got fitted for the G425 irons a few weeks ago and configured them with Alta CB Slate graphite shafts with a stiff flex. Felt so much smoother than the steel shafts that I tried.
@@mtcollins64 how you finding the Alta CB Slate? got fitted in Mcguirkes last week , swing speed very slow at only 65 mph, a lot to do with shoulder injury and arthritis , though only 54 :), tried the SR 65gm of these , felt ok, going to Ping Authorised fitter next week to try the ALTA Distanza with the g425 irons, see if it will help though afraid might be too whippy

This year's iron colour scheme is clearly black & chrome. I also hate the heel side notch on Ping irons (and I play i210s) but Ping have had that in all irons for decades. If I played longer irons than a 5i I would be very tempted to combo this with my i210s (replace 4i i210 with 5i G425?) but as I move to hybrids at anything longer than 5i I do not need to bother. 30 degrees for a 7i qualifies as a modern loft rather than a strong loft!

Long time PING iron user. Had to move away from their G700s because the impact sound (crack!) was so loud/obnoxius that it hurt my ears. And the feel was too hard. PING has to focus more on the acoustics and feel of their game improvement clubs.
It gets me how so many reviewers poop on irons with offset. I've stayed with offset irons since Ping Eye 2's and have always liked them. Back in the 80's many pro's played with the eye 2's. Mark Calcavecchia being one.
Ben Hogan also won with wood clubs, what's your point? Offset, for people who draw or hook the ball naturally, is awful. Some offset is fine but the game improvement degree of offset is such an eye sore to most decent players.

But offset is produced today for a reason. Many people still play them with success. Its just some RUclips snobs that feel they are too good for them.

Take any sport where you have multitude of options for equipment and everyone should go with how they feel. I've seen too many go with the top brands without even trying and then suddenly start playing worse. Or chosen too "pro-level" equipment which require solid foundations in technique. I used to play pool at pro-am level, most people tend to play with soft/medium tips as they might give bit more spin. I played with hard tips as they give more solid feel to strike. Also I hated dead/soft cues as there is no feel to them and you never really know if you hit well. My arm/muscle memory knew better than my brains when I hit well when you could feel vibrations from tip to end. Did play in one bar close to Bondi. Will always remember that night when couple up as team with gray haired gentleman at least twice my age. We stayed on the table for hours with winner stays gentleman rule. And in the end got bit tipsy for all the won drinks.
GOLF Well I’ve been a hacker for a long time, but on Friday I had my first ever actual real round of golf. I played at the Darwin Golf Course in Marrara in the Northern Territory of Australia. I played 18 holes with my new full set of G425 Ping clubs and was over the moon with the results. I hit a 111, which was 39 over. I walked around the 6073m course in 3h 20 mins which nearly killed me. Next time I am getting a cart.
I game the G700's I love em. I'm the golfer that the G425 is designed for...so thank you for not using the word "clunky" to describe them as so many reviewers have done. Seeing good results the clubs produce makes me love the way the clubs look :) "good club, atta boy"

I was told by ping the notch in the hosel is there to help cut through the rough easier, the grass supposedly doesn't get tied up around the hosel as much out of the long grass.

They definitely performed for you Alex, problem obviously is bottom of the bag, you need all the wedges. I actually like the look of these. I prefer CB's because you can add some visual flair, and I'm not a topline snob it looked almost blade like in the video. I still wouldn't game them myself though because money and I've already gotten 2 sets of irons this year.
I used one. I honestly think I hit more fairways than I have done since. I switched it for a Yonex from the early millenium (which was also awesome). Regret letting both go.

I can tell you for certain, any of the JPX Hot Metal irons are way better than the g425's! Even the JPX 900 series. The JPX 918 Hot Metal irons are in my opinion, the best irons available for mid to mid/high Hdcp Players. I'm a 6 Hdcp (terrible putter) and the 918 Hot Metal Pro's are my personal favorites. The JPX Hot Metal irons aren't MP butter blade soft, but they feel way better than the g425's. Honestly, I couldn't imagine ever playing a harsh club like the Pings again. I would demo everything possible, but I can't imagine anyone choosing the g425's over any of the Hot Metal irons.
@@joegvoll6017 I had Ping i200s that needed to be reshafted so I ended up moving on from them. I enjoyed those irons a lot. I don't care if a product is forged, just about performance. I play off of a 9hcp and after seeing the HM yesterday in person, and getting to sit it directly beside of the i200s I traded in, I'll likely go to HMP just based off of blade length. The stronger lofts at the bottom end of the bag will likely require 5 wedges or some 6 degree gaps
@@ermangus The i200 & i500's are decent irons. They feel better than these. But I still think you'll like the Hot Metals more. If you're a 9, you should try the Jpx 918 Hot Metal Pro irons. I went from a combo set of Mph5's 2-4i & Mp25s 5i-pw, to the Jpx-918 hm pro. But I'm seriously considering the Srixon z585/785's now.

If you want a great iron without spending much, the Callaway X20 & X22 irons are as good as almost all of the new irons. I played X20's for a while, then when I got better I played the X22 tour model, then Mizuno Mph5/Mp25s and now it's the JPX918 HM Pro, but for a higher Hdcp r, go with the regular Hot Metal, not the Pros. The Pros are like a game improvement iron for lower Hdcprs.
For those who do not struggle with getting the ball airborne but still want the forgiveness and distance of modern game improvement irons, what do you suggest?
If you could put the ball within 5 feet of the flag on a 220 yard par 3 Say 8 out of 10 times you’d be on a tour somewhere……let’s see that out on the course 👍🏼👍🏼

If you want a great iron without spending much, the Callaway X20 & X22 irons are as good as almost all of the new irons.
