Per Wikipedia and several other sources on the Internet, the Casa Grande Photogrammetric Test Range is a test range established in the mid-1960s to test the dynamic performance of aerial survey cameras. The range consisted of 272 concrete calibration markers embedded into the Earth's surface in and around Casa Grande, Arizona. The markers are commonly (and erroneously) believed to have been used to aid camera calibration for the US Central Intelligence Agency's Corona spy satellite program; in fact, they were used as references for aerial surveys through photogrammetry. The markers formed a square 16-by-16-mile grid, and were maintained from 1959 to 1972. Some of the original markers can still be found on satellite maps and ground inspection.
On that satellite target; there are still dozens if not hundreds of targets like it across the planet for calibrating satellites. They're usually a bit more hidden and clearer (like a checkerboard pattern or specific lengths of stripes), but in the end they're all a very specific size in a very specific location so that satellites can be calibrated from looking at them.
Generator issues suck.
I’ve had bucket trucks with Onan generators on them and had a problem. I bring it to an Onan dealer that works on them outside of St. Louis on I 64 and I’ve never had a problem since.
There's also an Onan repair place in Elk City, OK. They were very good for me!
Add a separate wire from the battery to both the positive and negative sides of the battery to the generator and your problem will be solved. Control board is only putting out 8-9 volts which isn’t enough.
I am sure you are right, but if you know that, why do Onan not fix their own brain-dead generators?

As others had mentioned in a previous video, there was a FIRMWARE update on that generator that fixes the issue. Have a tech come out and update it.
I have a 2006 Aspect with an Onan, I flooded it once and it failed to start. Bought this RV in 2017 and have done NOTHING for the generator. not even changed the oil. care full on how longe I hold the choke.
My sister lives in Tucson and said it's 44° and pouring today (Sunday)! Hope the weather improves for you!
Pull the spark plug and see if it had oil on it. You might have sucked up oil into the valves driving with it on. Hold the choke closed while starting and don't forget to check the altitude setting. If the plug has oil then drain out some oil until it's half way up the from the full point. Then give it a shot. What did rv wane do to get it working?.
It's dry. Also brand new. third one in 30 days.
Try giving it a start without priming in your video some smoke was coming from the exuast when u tried starting. If the plug is clean then it sound like a bad coil this happens very often. Take the spark plug out the connect the top but don't screw it in start the gen and see if it sparks when u turn it over you will also be able to smell if gass is flowing by smelling the hole where the spark plug was I hope this helps 😀
Be carefully not to hold the spark plug in your hand or you will get a shock

If you pull the plug and don't smell gass it's fuel injectors or fuel pump I just changed the injectors on one last month they took it everywhere and no one could figure it out it took me 1 min to diagnose however the usual culprit is the coil pack the injectors and coil pack are not that expensive especially if you get them off ebay. If you let me know the results of the spark plug spark and gass smell I can direct you further if you like 👍
Eric, if that is a new Onan then it should have a "STANDARD THREE-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY WITH AVAILABLE FIVE-YEAR EXTENDED COVERAGE." Maybe reach out to Onan and see if they will honor the warranty.

If you can find a pre-1986 Onan generator, they are great. I bought a 6500HN 50A for $650. It was in a motorhome that had a fire in the cabin but the generator was untouched. Originally it was wired as two 120V 30A legs, but the wiring diagram showed it could be wired as a 240V split phase. So, now it is truly a 240V 50A generator. Plus it does not have a computer. Not even solid-state ignition. Just points and condenser. It starts and runs every time.

I visited the Desert Museum outside of Tuscon in the 1990's and loved it! Also used to love Pancho's Mexican Buffet but I don't think it's there anymore.

Never ever have had a problem with my onan. I have over 1000 hrs on mine all I do is change the oil. It has altitude adjustment on it that works great. One thing I noticed is you push the prime button a lot. You only have to do it for the first time you crank after that just crank. I wonder if over priming it floods it. But it should start right away. Something is definitely wrong code 36 is fuel problem.
I know several people that have had Onan generators and RVs and the reason they are still in business and are in RVs is because they are second to none if you would just break down and take your own and generator to an Onan authorized dealer and have it worked on then they would be able to solve your problem
We have a 2016 5th wheel with an Onan and the only issue we have ever had is a vapor lock situation because it was so hot outside and we were running it almost continuously that is kind of got into a vapor lock situation. We opened the compartment door and pulled the cover to let it cool down for a bit. It fired right back up. We've put almost 600 hours on it with only that minor issue.
Hi Eric - Wells Fargo's app has a feature where you can set up a trip itinerary; that should eliminate the card declines. Please take the RV to an Onan service center; get it fixed right.
I was, also, going to say, maybe Eric’s travelling is what’s flagging his card. Should talk to the bank about that.
Yes I forgot to let Wells Fargo know I was traveling from Tx to Vegas and they shut me down,been with them for 15 yrs 👍but they activated it right away and went on with my Vacation

I'm not a boondocker or full timer, but I'm getting out of the RV life and selling my camper because I'm having a really hard time getting campsites at state parks and COE campgrounds. (on the east coast). I don't want to reserve months in advance.

I was so happy for you Eric when the generator fired up. I literally said to myself man that is great they did get it fixed! Then when it wouldn’t start I TOTALY FELT YOUR REACTION!! I’d just pull that damn thing out and make space for that Honda and just use it. I have a friend that has a onnan and he bitches about his all the time! That last thing you said about liking what you do. I'm still in my car.I have an SUV I have a bed.I also have something to cook with. But my friends are so worried about me, They want me to go live in an apartment, Where I would just sit and die. So ithis 130 almost 2 o'clock in the morning. the part about your credit card being declined, that has happened to me - sometimes it's gets declined or the chip reader can't read the chip on the card. so I have a back up debit card for when that happens. Oh also I have had my identity stolen a couple times on a card and if they catch it they make you get a new card, pretty much making your current card unusable.
Ever adjust the altitude switch? I sometimes have to play with mine (usually up north in the mountains) but have done it south as well
Onan generators typically run 20,000-30,000 hours without a problem.
I worked at Cummins and dealt with the Onan generators daily. They are a great generator.
You must have some issues.
Keep them clean and full of oil, and they run forever.

That would be awesome! But with over 60% of US RVs built in California currently, generators are illegal and can no longer be put into RVs brand new anymore...

@@nomadicfanatic I don't know the legislation of that state, I only know that it seems one of the worst to live in, seen from outside the US, if I'm not mistaken there are generators compliant with California regulations, you can also put two in parallel and have more power or scalability and redundancy, what a disappointment, I didn't think the onans were so bad and even though they are from Cummins they also make them for yachts and they have been making generators and engines for a century even with very high power, they probably have the small ones made and are not so careful about producing something reliable and efficient home honda inverters. Could your generator trouble be caused by a grounding issue? There's a grounding attach point on the left forward side of the generator. Check where/how it's connected to either the chassis battery (negative terminal) or the vehicle frame. I suspect it's bolted to the frame...but you can't just bolt it to the frame without preparing the metal around the grounding lug. The metal around the connection point should be cleaned and sanded down to bare metal before securing the ground cable.
White smoke out the exhaust - it’s flooded. You have overprimed. I never prime my Onan. Keep trying to start it to burn that excess fuel and then it should start. Also, have you adjusted the altitude dial?
That's exactly what I was thinking as it started before and was already primed. My thought is to try and start it without priming...and if it doesn't start, don't keep priming it.

Oh and keep your AC in the upper 70s you will use a lot less energy and the cats and you should be comfortable! Terra was probably too cold and wanted some heat!
And FYI Maybe your Onan was flooded with that black exhaust, no need to prime when warm

The flagging from the banks is becoming a world wide issue Eric, we just had a the second payment to the ATO (Australian Tax Office) flagged and then received a fine from the ATO for non payment. No call from the bank to check, they just stopped a payment to the ATO, and I bet they won't help me with the fine either. Thanks a lot ANZ, we have only been a customer for 41 years!!!! Maybe that Onan would look better as an ornament at the Casa Grande Photogrammetric Test Range🤣 At least it might Start...... a discussion?
That Honda 2200iu generator is convertible to dual fuel(propane). Perhaps you should rip out the Onan and replace it with your Honda(after you convert it) and run a line from your already on board propane tank. It's not as convenient as pushing a button but it's more quiet and if you run it on propane the fumes aren't as bad as gasoline.
Propane generators don’t put out as much electricity as gas.
My onan is 24 yrs old, have no clue how many hrs as meter broke at 375 hrs. I rearly have used it in last 3 yrs, since I got solar. I would love to have it removed to save on weight.
Was boondocking with one of the tribe at the Q, who has, a little honda and amazed how quiet it is.
I fought code 36 forever. What i ended up doing was providing 12v to the fuel pump directly from the battery. I added a toggle switch next the my generator start switch inside. Turn the fuel pump swith on the start the generator. Then just flip both switches to kill the generator. Haven't had an issue since. Might be worth trying
Erick hunt for a Cummins Dealer they can fix your Generator, they work on Onan's
They flag the card because they're making sure someone hadn't grabbed the card stuff from a scanner when you used it and was trying to get gas for free. I'd be calling Cummins. I recently read where there is a recall or service bulletin on them.
You've got 91% left...why not do a real world test and run your AC as long as you want/need it? Even if your battery gets down to 50% over night...you'll have plenty of solar the next day to test the charging capability of bringing your batteries back to 100%. What's the point of having such a robust system if you're not going to use it?
I wouldn’t be able to get rid of that Owen generator fast enough. I’d be looking for a Honda equivalent. Or just install the Honda you have in that spot.

Probably a carburetor issue, a pinched fuel line or a fuel pick up issue. Since that isn't the original generator I'd bet it's a fuel line or fuel pick up problem. BTW the generator was built 3-16-2022 and was never registered into Cummins warranty system - (which is a good thing) The Cummins warranty is 3 years - the first two cover parts and labor, the third year is parts only.
We have a Onan generator in our 2021 motorhome and so far knock on wood we haven’t had any trouble with it! Good video as always😊

There was a really good Onan guy in Tucson that I personally have used for years...but of course you are long gone from town by the time you post. Find a Cummins dealer (Onan) maybe?
Can you put a small fan in to draw cooler air from inside the rv into that overheating compartment?
It might be a better idea to vent your electronics internally. Just blow some of that AC air into there and vent the hot back into your RV.

If you’re still in Tucson, ride your bike up Mountain Lemon and there’s a place that sells killer 🍪 cookies. Then you need to try eating at El Molinitos for some delicious Mexican food. Also try eating at Eegee’s and Slice & Ice.
I watched a video within the last month about that Harvest Host location and the review was not kind. Sorry you missed your stay but I can't blame them for cancelling the HH program. To be honest it does not seem like a good place to stay anyway. But I'm sure we will get your review in a couple days.
How long is the r.v. with the trailer and how much can you tow do the airbags help?
Had the same problem with my Onan. Replaced the carburetor and it was fixed. Electric choke is was bad.

OH MY GOSH MAX DOES THE SAME THING!!!! Because we are a DP the floor of the bedroom gets really hot. After a hot drive day he will go lay on the hot floor! When its too hot I have to lock him out.
Dumb question but, shouldn't that be under warranty if it's brand new?
Could it be the ethanol in the fuel dump a bottle of heat in it will eat up the water your generator takes fuel from the bottom that is were the the ethanol is at the bottom??

Been with Wells Fargo for 22 years and have never had a reason to leave. They are cautious at times but really that is a good thing. Is it really stealth camping when you're in a huge RV? 🙃

When you get a good Onan they work great but when you get a bad one they suck. I've had two one was as good as my Honda. the other one I had adjust the jets at every slight change in elevation.

There was a Bigfoot sighting by Capitol forest or somewhere north of Tenino the other day, it was investigated ~ 3 people out riding by some power lines saw something on a ridge they said was about 10 feet tall and upright 👣. Love Honda Generators!
Eric, I hope you figure out something about a reliable main gen.I would replace the Onan. I know it would be expensive, but you CAN buy peace of mind.
My Onan is only two years old and the electronic chok on the carb went bad and of course you have to buy a whole new carb $900

It seems like the fuel line from the tank is not getting vented before you got fuel it worked after you fueled up it stop working ?

If that compartment is insulated I would be tempted to vent in and out to the cabin. This would ensure it could run even when 115 degrees outside.

My Solar installer installed a fan inside my bay exhausting outside control with auto temperature control , so no cutting any holes .
Love your trip commentaries. Too bad about the Harvest Host snafu, but things happen. Wondering, it was hot out, is it possible you flooded the generator by priming too much? Just a thought. You have had over anyone's share of bad luck with Onan. Our diesel one has worked like a champ when we need it over 13 years, but those type are a different animal than what you have. We are in deep south Texas, getting ready to head back to the Pacific Northwest. Only 3500 miles to see the grandkids. But that's why we live in our motorhome. 😊
The 2nd gas filled flagged your card because your acct is new. A thief might fill up everything they own. Once the algorithm understands your spending patterns on the road, you'll get flagged less.
