My name is Eric and I travel with my cats, “Tara” & “Opie” in a 24ft 2002 Ford Bigfoot Class C and tow either a 2014 lifted Smart Car named “Tater Tot” or my 2012 Harley Softail Slim named “Black Betty” in a 6x10 trailer. We travel about 35 miles a day chasing 70 degrees year-round since 2010.

Hey Eric, I been a mobile auto paint repair guy for 20 years in the Prescott area. Do not throw those headlights away. Wet sand them with 400 wet/dry sand paper and then spray them with clear enamel. Make sure to get all the yellow off when you sand them. They will look like new.

I saw video's on youtube of people using deep woods off, they let it set a few mins then wiped it off and they were clear as a bell. Watch the videos and if you try it let us know.

Future tip Eric, there are paint places who will mix paint matched exactly to your paint on your vehicle, faded and all by using a special camera. Then they have really good quality clear coat. Both come in a spray can, like the large cans you might but at Walmart or something. Roughly $20 a can. Much better paint quality than that duplicolor stuff from AutoZone or O'Reilly's.
The only imperfection on the truck… except for the paint missing at the top of both passenger side doors, the big ass ding on the passenger bedside, the rip on the drivers seat and then those other chips… and then those yellow headlights. Other than that, it’s a great truck with a 4.6L engine.
Sadly Eric that color white is famous for peeling.
Seems the grey primer underneath goes bad.
The whole truck will eventually peel.
no it won't--have a 2001 ranger with a few spots like yours but it definitly hasn't peeled the whole truck

First year's of waterborn paint and factory adhesion problems. All manufacturers had them sadly in the beginning.
@@blairinhemetActually it probably will, 25 year body man here. You can’t use 1 truck as an example to say it won’t flake haha.
Change the oil every 3 thousand miles religiously. That's the best thing you can do for those 5.4 3 valve engines. And change the coolant frequently.
But he doesn’t have a 5.4 3 valve. He has a 4.6L SOHC.
It looks good Eric. It's a work truck and now it won't rust. Love the rain guards.

Also - pro tip here free of charge. The paint in the can is oxford white and would have matched the factory color before your truck sat in the sun for 20 years but the paint doesn’t match faded paint. You’d have to get a shop to blend your paint to make it match as best as possible. So you think you can buy paint for a 2004 vehicle but not for a 1980’s vehicle? 😂 At least you already know you’re doing it wrong…

Eric,for the plastic pieces on the truck that are faded you can use a propane torch to heat the plastic and it will go back to the original black.,✌️❤️❤️✌️

For all your faded plastic take a small blow torch (small fire starter bottle) and torch your plastic and it’ll look brand new!!
Good temporary fix, the paint is starting to fail. So no telling how long till it all starts peeling. But that could be a year or 10 years. Looks good for now
Have you looked up air filter for a 2004 ford f-150 5.4L and figured out how to make a flat rectangular filter fit in that large round air filter canister you have? Once you load the bed down or hookup the trailer with bike, you'll feel the difference of 231HP/293Torque(4.6L) compared to 300HP/365Torque (5.4L).

Luv your videos..reminds me when I restored all 3 of my cars: 75 vanilla vw beetle,71 racing red MGB convertible with chrome wire wheels and 77 BMW 320i metal flake green, but appears gold at sunset or by the beach.
Truck looks nice. I like the Harley decal on the back window which gives it some 'class'.
Instead of taking the front grill off, you can put a piece of cardboard behind it and tape everything off in front.
Nice truck. Don’t think to much on little things just enjoy it the helper it will be. I know….some of us folks like to make it “right for me” on vehicles.

hit it with 2k grit sandpaper and buffing compound it will blend in have painted a few cars

Try armor all on the headlights , plastic parts and tires. The suns uv will dry out plastic keeping it oiled keeps it from fading don't spray paint plastic it requires a special paint and will ways peel it is better to restore the original plastic. Plastic is made from oil so oiling it is what keeps it shining ✨️ 😉
When I first got my 03 Tahoe, I washed a bunch of the white paint off. I tried to poof can it an most of that came right off too.
Pilot, get some polishing compound for that. It'll make it look nice and smooth

Eric , you should have used a little bit of bondo on the touch ups and sand it flush before the paint . Also brown sand paper is for wood only . You need the black for sanding metal or automotive paint.looks pretty good though with all those coats 😎
yep, could have wet sanded the paint edges and had a smooth touchup.
Try Mothers "Back to black" on your front grill. I think the black paint will make things worse.
Paint fix on the tail gate came out nice I wasn't expecting it to look that good.

Eric I recommend adding mud guards (front and rear) and rear wheel well liners for the F150. It will help prevent the rock chips.
Protect that nice truck from hail, maybe a cover or shelter.

On all the plastics I think you should just use armerall with az sun I’m not sure how long the black paint will hold up
Paint the plastic, only solution
Armorall actually speeds up degradation in the hot Arizona sun. Proven it will ruin tires and cause them to crack earlier than normal.
ford 5.4 spark plugs are notorious for breaking in half when changing, replace them sooner than later
For the black plastic stuff get some back to black from auto store should be by the car wax and stuff
Such a nice looking truck. I would have probably got a blue or Forrest green color. But i don't live in Arizona where having a white vehicle is just a smart move to protect from the sun.
Your truck is looking good! I watched a video the other day where somebody used bug spray like off to clean their lights. I plan to try it.

On the headlights , SYLVANIA Headlight Restoration Kit worked great for me .
Instead of painting the grill get some Back to Black by Mcguires. Won't have to take the grill off then
Also, just put cardboard behind the grill and tape off the rest of it on the front and spray paint it. It should be clean?

On the polastic outside, that is not painted. Use something like "CERAKOTE® Ceramic Trim Coat Kit - Quick Plastic Trim Restorer - Ceramic Coating Black Trim Restoration to Last Over 200 Washes - A Ceramic Coating, Not a Dressing" It will do the trick and you can use ie on your grill as well.
You can't hang anything from your rearview mirror in Arizona. It's a traffic violation.

Hey Eric, before doing the black spray paint, try Maguire's Black Magic plastic restorer.
No touch tire cleaner for all your black plastics, looks new when finished better than painted

I have family all over in Arizona. Monsoons are the reason I won't live there or visit in July. They are too violent. Arizona and Florida can keep that crap!

Check out using a butane torch to turn your faded black back to a nice shine instead of painting them.
Don't do it. It lasts a week and goes back to the way it was.
The heat draws out the oils but that can only work so much.

Don't keep the paint pen in the car, it will dry out. Keep it in a dry place.
Maybe running boards, I’ve been debating between running boards or actually putting rv steps on the passenger side because my mom needs a step stool to get into my truck.
Also thinking of a retractable bumper step for the back bumper or a tailgate ladder to help me get in the back. 😅
I had running boards put on my Silverado. Best idea ever.

Check your Az. laws. I know in NY for instance, anything hanging in your view, ie mirror, is a violation, including air fresheners, tassels, etc. Why leave yourself open to an aggressive enforcer?
Lived here in AZ, Phoenix area since 2008, never been pestered over stuff on my mirror.
Looking into it, its usually because they want to run your plates or check you out.
You better run back to Florida.
Honestly, the truck didn't look bad with the paint blemishes. White is a forgiving color for things like that. People see a slightly older truck like that, they don't expect perfect paint. I don't think anyone is paying that much attention. I had 20 year old car that had that peeling problem on a few spots for years and never rusted.

Order the 20 again. When he arrives, hold a hundred dollar bill up and say "It's yours if I can get you to split it in a few places." 100% he will split it as much as you want. And that is hella easier than doing it yourself with a shovel.

I have those rain guards on my 2021 RAM 2wd Warlock. My kids laughed at me as being corny, but I love them. I can crack the windows when it raining a d get all the great smell, none of thecrain in the truck. Stops window howling when cracked at hiway speed. And- I just like the way they look, so its a win-win for me. My truck is dark gray so they look just fine. Yours look awesome against the white paint. You do you, Eric. 👍🏻
