So beautiful...just like all your work. I'd like to ask you ...I got my yarn for my little blocks that are made with Ice Picasso rainbow and white. How many balls do I need of each to make a full size blanket. I bought bags of eight of both. I'm wondering if I should or one more bag of each.
IMO, you explain things SO well, you never have to worry about confusing anyone. Thank you! If you don't mind, I was wondering if it is possible for you to do a tutorial on a pattern called the "wiggly stitch." It's a two-process stitch. First you create a simple filet crochet base. Then, using that base, you work SC or DC over it, going back and forth with the pattern. I've seen it done, but the only examples I can find are so ugly and so basic (and usually in DC, though I think in SC it looks much nicer) that it's hard to imagine it as being nice. Yet I happened to see an example of one at a friend's house and it can be so pretty. ?? Well, I hope you consider it. I really love the way you explain everything. You make the hardest patterns so easy!
After 20 years of crochet, I love that there are still techniques and patterns to keep me excited to keep going. Thank you for such a well explained tutorial. :)
My grandma has just turned 80 but has always wanted to learn how to crochet. Your videos have been a lifesaver for us, Robin! Thank you so much. We’re finally going to help her achieve her dream!
This is sweet. My mom is 80, she knits one or two patterns that she’s comfortable with but has never learnt to crochet. I, too, should show her Robin’s channel because she is quite a clear and easy teacher! It’ll give Mom something to do over the long winter here in Canada. ❤
You made a University of Texas gingham blanket (on my screen it's orange, grey'ish, and white)! 🧡 There's a saying, "There's a little piece of me in everything I crochet." My hair also makes its way into my work, which is why I like that saying. :D 12:10 and 13:29 is where folks who struggle with the concept of starting chains + x can get an explanation of why it's 13, not 10. For those who need to visualize the math: 5th chain from the hook is the first dc And the second, so keep the number 2 in your head. 13 chains - 5 skips = 8 chains remaining 8 chains + 2 dc = 10 (8 additional dc will be made so the total equals 10 dc) Starting chains throw me off to this day when I'm trying to write my own patterns (admittedly, I haven't tried very hard), so I wanted to break it down for beginners.
Hi, Shyanha -- let me see if I can explain this correctly. You need 13 because those extra chains will make up your first double crochet. If you only did 10 chains, you'd fall short due to skipping whatever amount Robin says (I forget, sorry). I hope this explained it for you.
Ahhh, just in time to start Christmas projects! Thank you, thank you, Robin! All the women in my family love gingham and I'm so glad it's in style lately. 😆
This is one of the best tutorials I've seen. I really appreciate your thorough explanation on the theory of how to work this up rather than just following a pattern. I'm looking forward to your next TED Talk.
One of the very best tutorials I have watched. Your level of detail and instruction was so thorough but also not an hour long. Thank you thank you for taking the time to do this!!!
I LOVE all of your tutorials! You're incredibly thorough and clear on the instructions you give your viewers. Your calm, energetic voice is very soothing to me. Thank you for all of the countless hours of tutorials, ideas and gorgeous products you shared with us; you are absolutely amazing!
Best advice - one to the front and one to the back!!! I can’t believe I didn’t think of that before as it’s been such an irritation in the past. Thank you Robin. I love the way you talk us thru each teaching point!!
I made Buffalo Plaid crochet hats for the family in black and red and grey and in black and white and grey. They turned out great. However, the plaid was tiny and I was following a pattern. Your great instructions have now given me the freedom to design my own plaid blanket. Thank you for a super tutorial.
Crocheter here, and for a maximum coolness you could mount your beginning chain with the colors too, 10 CA, 10 CB by just adding the second color when its needed. It could be a little tricky for the beginners, but it's worth the corst.
Thank you for sharing! I'm an intermediate crocheter, about 2 years in picking it up in my spare time, but your videos are so clear and you have so much patience repeating things that an almost beginner could watch this video and understand and recreate. And the fact you've included the pattern for this very one is wonderful, some people struggle with envisioning colourways, amounts of yarn, or the maths, and even if they follow without doing a gauge and it's not completely square, it will still look great! Thank you 💙
Thank you so much for posting a “theory” video, more of these please so we can adjust and adapt to make our own unique creations based on your guidance! I am finishing up a dark blue / light blue / white one now based off this video.

Sigh....I've got to rearrange my top five projects to make now. I knew I shouldn't have clicked on this!! 😳Now, it's at number three!!! I am 65 yrs old...I must live long enough to finish my "knit and crochet" list! It certainly does give me incentive LOL! Thank you for making a clear video on these plaid blankets. Some are not very clear but yours are crystal! Love your personality and your clear, concise tutorials. Thank you, Robin 🥰
I downloaded some gingham crochet pattern videos a couple of three years ago, because I love the look of the gingham crocheted items. However they’ve been sitting in the vault, like I said for two or three years. You’ve made it look so simple and again I love listening to your voice, so I’m definitely going to give this a try. Weirdly perhaps, I’m going to do this in a prayer shawl style. Thank you again for all your videos❤ ❤❤
Thank you so much for this video. I have searched and searched for a way to do this blanket without joining squares or strips and cutting yarn at the end of each row. The technique is perfect. Your explanation was very clear. I'm making one now.
This was really interesting. Love that you can change colors and not have to sew it all together! Very nice blanket! Something to try someday. Thank you for all the tips!
Loved the gingham blanket and the helpful tips. Thank you for both a great demonstration and a calm, clear explanation. Fantastic. As a retired head of mathmatics teaching for 20 years. You have shown me you can teach an old dog new tricks. Weĺl done. Kindest Regards, kim x
I’m loving this pattern and amazed at how quickly it works up. I’m doing a blue colour combo at the moment and it looks fab. Finding it very addictive! Thank you once again for your fab tutorials. You are always my go to! X
I do all of my blankets in the moss stitch. I should be able to take this theory/lay out and do a beautiful gingham blanket in a moss stitch. I now know what my January project will be ❤ can’t hurt to try!
yes it can be done in moss stitch or any stitch you want basically! Daisy farms craft has about 20 different gingham style crochet blanket patterns and uses different stitches for them all.
For the border, I followed 2 different tutorials for this. To begin, I prepared my edging using this method from It's all in a Nutshell Crochet ruclips.net/video/T2GZmkrxbXo/видео.html I then used this border from Daisy Farm Crafts ruclips.net/video/oM5qMrw8fxY/видео.html (I chained 12 for my starting chain on the ribbed border 😊) I hope that helps.x
Thank you. You have helped me remember so many stitches. I’ve never done a gingham blanket, but took notes. I plan to make these blankets for my great grandchildren. I’m thinking one in blues, one in pinks and another in mint green shades. I’m excited to start. Thanks again.

Hello Robin, All I have to say is, you're excellent at breaking down every step, and explaining all the little details. You're just a fantastic_ positive crocheter/teacher. Now that autumn is here(USA), I feel inspired to make a Gingham blanket. THANKYOU.. thank you 🧶💜for this video.
Thanks so much for this tutorial. I tried to make a gingham blanket before and it did not work out so well. I ended up stopping with 2 rows of gingham and finishing with just DC rows with 2 more gingham rows at the end. That's because my count was off, my changing color didn't go so smoothly and I was really just a beginner. But now that I'm more advanced and with the help of your tutorial I feel as though I can do this with no problem. Your explanation of the color change and how to choose your colors was very helpful. I really enjoyed watching this video and I can't wait to try this again with the yarns I have at home.
Thank you, thank you! Your instructions are very easy to follow. And my hair is always crocheted into my projects too. Lol. I saw this blanket and loved it but passed by the video because I didn’t think I could do it. But I’m so glad I stopped to listen to you because you couldn’t have made it any easier. I’m going out today to pick out my 3 colors. ❤
Absolutely love this video! So clearly set out and explained. I’ve just finished all my Christmas gifts for this year so now it’s time to make something for me! 😂 I’ve wanted a gingham blanket for ages!
You are BRILLIANT!!! 🤩 Thank You so much for this very, very informative video tutorial! ❤️ I have been wanting to crochet a Gingham blanket, but always felt insecure about trying it!
Loved this tutorial so much. I'm so inspired to make one of these! Maybe after Christmas when I finish all my gift crocheting and knitting 🤣 Your blanket is BEAUTIFUL 😍
Robin, thank you so much for this tutorial. I’ve watched other videos on gingham crochet, and even attempted it. My color choice was so off I gave up on it. Your explanation of choosing color plus making a gauge swatch helped the light come on. I may even try it again!! You’re the best!!
Looks great 😁 love hair comment 😊 I have to do the same thing. Understand the process but I have to play with it a little more to get "it" 😘 your channel!
This one is definitely going on my list of projects! After I finish my ombre style blanket which I started today 🤣 I was wondering if there's a possibility to add some depth to the gingham design? Something along the lines of - the first row of the contrasting color in backloop (rightside) or frontloop (wrong side) pushing that row back - continuing all the rows after that full loop - the first row of the next color on top of that frontloop (wrong side) or backloop (rightside) pushing the row below back It definitely destroys the easy pattern repeat you got now, but in my head at least it would cool.
This was so helpful! Excellent tutorial! My son wants me to make a gingham blanket for him but I wasn't sure how to switch the colors. You described it beautifully! Thank you! I hope to find more of your videos.
This info isn't new to me, but the video caught my eye because of the ribbed border and the modern colors (I'm not always a fan of mustard, but this is great!). I watched just a couple minutes, so far, and I can say: you are my people! Breaking it down, analytically. Using math to calculate what you want, etc. That's how I like to work too. It's amazing how many people I've introduced to the idea of a scale for the yarn room but with a scale and some calculating, you can learn so much for your crocheting! Knowing the "why" and the foundational concepts behind a pattern gives those learning much better information than just one set amount of chains to chain. Working to dimensions rather than a particular gauge is my favorite way to work.
It's a beautiful blanket. And I was going to ask about the border, it's so nice and sleek. Then I see that you refer to it in the description box. Thank you !
I like this tutorial because you can adapt it to smaller or larger blocks of colour depending on what scale of gingham you desire. And you can use the technique to make more complex tartans too.
@@HookedbyRobin my nan taught me 40yrs ago to crochet but I still like learning new stitches and patterns.its nice to watch your videos as you have the ability to teach and make it enjoyable. Do you have a fb page.
This is awesome. Thank you for this great tutorial. I would love to try this blanket but I'm 72 yrs old and would definitely botch it up. Stay safe. 💐🧶🙏🏻😉🧶😉
Your channel is fantastic. I have confidence I can follow your instructions. This video was worth my time in so many ways. I appreciate your response to comments that help others to understand the math. Sharing knowledge that euips someone is life changing. That is what your video did for me. I will visit my local yarn shop-Around The Table Yarns in Shaker Heights Ohio- for help with guaging. They are wonderful with guidance and encouragement too. Thanks for the pattern. Blessings to you and your family.
I really appreciate learning the theory instead of exclusively following step by step instructions! I really want to see how you did the border though, I love the ribbed texture but I've never been able to figure it out!
THE BORDER: I followed 2 different tutorials for this. To begin, I prepared my edging using this method from @Itsallinanutshell ruclips.net/video/T2GZmkrxbXo/видео.html I then used this border from @DaisyFarmCrafts ruclips.net/video/oM5qMrw8fxY/видео.html (I chained 12 for my starting chain on the ribbed border 😊)
Thank you so much for the information and instructions. You have made it so simple and easy to follow. I am definitely going to save this video and make one of these blankets. FYI - I stumbled on one of your videos and it inspired me to started crocheting and have just finished my first blanket. So, again, thank you.
This is so beautiful. Thank you for such detailed instructions on how to do this pattern. I absolutely love this blanket & the colors you chose to make it with. I am going to try this for my granddaughter.❤

This video is so helpful! The blanket is beautiful and it's great that I can apply this to any yarn and size I'd want 😊
I am so glad it helped Kamilla! 😃🧶
I love your tutorials Robin! You have so many tips & tricks !! Plus your voice is so pleasing AND you work in US terms 😅
Awwh, thank you so much Penny and I do!😃
I always wanted to learn this!! Robin your making my bucket list overflow! Love it!
I’m sorry..but not sorry! 🥰😅 All the crochet goodness.😃
I love this so much! One day when I'm not working on multiple project at once, I will make one. Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome and I know what you mean - I always have different projects on the go.😂🧶
You are BRILLIANT!!! 🤩 Thank You so much for this very, very informative video tutorial! ❤️ I have been wanting to crochet a Gingham blanket, but always felt insecure about trying it!
Awwh, I am so pleased it helps Ana! Have fun making one.😃🧶
That's brilliant. I've been wondering how to use this for a cardigan. Now I can. Thanks a lot. Stella
You’re welcome Stella and great idea!😃🧶
I have always wanted to crochet a gingham blanket - may be now I will - on my long list of future projects :0)
I hope you do! They are really simple once you get into the swing of things 😀🧶
I've been wanting to make a gingham blanket for ages. Thank you for the gentle nudge!
It was meant to be! 😃 I hope you enjoy making your blanket.x
Loved this tutorial so much. I'm so inspired to make one of these! Maybe after Christmas when I finish all my gift crocheting and knitting 🤣 Your blanket is BEAUTIFUL 😍
Thank you Demi! 😃 I hope you are enjoying making your gifts, homemade ones are so lovely.🎄
Thanks
Thank you so much Margaret for your support! 😃🤗
The hair in the project is too relatable lol 😂
😅🤦♀️
Robin, thank you so much for this tutorial. I’ve watched other videos on gingham crochet, and even attempted it. My color choice was so off I gave up on it. Your explanation of choosing color plus making a gauge swatch helped the light come on. I may even try it again!! You’re the best!!
Yay! 😃 I am so happy it helps Nancy, definitely have a go again.x
Looks great 😁 love hair comment 😊 I have to do the same thing. Understand the process but I have to play with it a little more to get "it" 😘 your channel!
Thank you Peggie! 🥰
Geez wow! You’re cranking some eye popping beautiful blankets! I’ve always wanted to try gingham. ❤
Thank you so much Jeanna, are you going to make one?😃🧶
This one is definitely going on my list of projects! After I finish my ombre style blanket which I started today 🤣
I was wondering if there's a possibility to add some depth to the gingham design? Something along the lines of
- the first row of the contrasting color in backloop (rightside) or frontloop (wrong side) pushing that row back
- continuing all the rows after that full loop
- the first row of the next color on top of that frontloop (wrong side) or backloop (rightside) pushing the row below back
It definitely destroys the easy pattern repeat you got now, but in my head at least it would cool.
Yes absolutely! That sounds like an awesome idea!
This was so helpful! Excellent tutorial! My son wants me to make a gingham blanket for him but I wasn't sure how to switch the colors. You described it beautifully! Thank you! I hope to find more of your videos.
You’re so welcome! Enjoy making your blanket.😃
This was lovely to read and so appreciated, thank you so much! 😃🥰
So, this is how you make the squares like that. Thank you for explaining this so well.
You’re welcome Nancy!😃🤗
Bless your little heart, you've made this as "idiot-proof" as you can 🤣 thank you
I am glad it made sense! 😅😃
How wonderful, I always hated changing color in crochet. So I knit mostly, but now I will try this. Thanks 😊😊
You’re welcome Teria, once you get the hang of it, it is easy.😃🧶

Yay! 😀🧶
tell us what colors you picked for the blanket Nancy!
sage green, cream and lighter green, I think...lol
I like this tutorial because you can adapt it to smaller or larger blocks of colour depending on what scale of gingham you desire. And you can use the technique to make more complex tartans too.
Yes definitely Natalie! 😃

Beautiful! Love your detailed but simple instructions! Thank you for sharing this technique!❤❤
You’re so welcome Linda, I hope it helps.😃🧶
I really appreciate learning the theory instead of exclusively following step by step instructions! I really want to see how you did the border though, I love the ribbed texture but I've never been able to figure it out!
THE BORDER: I followed 2 different tutorials for this.
To begin, I prepared my edging using this method from @Itsallinanutshell ruclips.net/video/T2GZmkrxbXo/видео.html
I then used this border from @DaisyFarmCrafts ruclips.net/video/oM5qMrw8fxY/видео.html (I chained 12 for my starting chain on the ribbed border 😊)
@@HookedbyRobin thank you so much!! ❤️
