  • Today is the day. We've been meaning to dedicate an entire day of eating solely Filipino food since we arrived in Manila a few weeks ago, but it just hadn't happened... UNTIL NOW.
In this video we only eat Filipino dishes from breakfast all the way to dinner (& dessert!) We believe all of the dishes today be absolute CLASSICS and even went on the HUNT for one of them (couldn't believe it wasn't in every restaurant based on how popular it is)

Great video guys, hilarious at the end. A few things you need to know. BREAKFAST: The word SILOG means a platter of egg, rice, and any protein you like, which in your dishes were Tocino for Dion, and Longanisa for you Sir. Next time you have your Silogs, try adding a bit of spiced vinegar to your protein, it adds a kick to the taste. LUNCH: Whenever your dish is served with lemon or Filipino lime called Calamansi, you should sprinkle it to your dish first so it will enhance the flavor. Always eat Sisig when its sizzling, it means its freshly made. DINNER: The Bicol Express dish is a specialty of the Bicol Region which is located on the southeast portion of Luzon, where you'll find lots of spicy dishes. The Adobo, the main staple food of the PH. It is also very simple to make with minimal ingredients. All you need is Soy Sauce, Vinegar, Garlic, 2 Bay Leaves, a few peppercorns, and Chicken or Pork are best, or any protein you'd like. In a Big Bowl, place your protein, 1 cup Soy Sauce, Chopped Garlic, Peppercorns, mix them up thoroughly then let it marinate in the REF for at least 30 mins. Then heat a Pan, a bit of cooking oil, place your marinated protein in the pan, add the 2 bay leaves, the rest of the marinade juice once the protein is cooked ( it should take no longer than 5 mins. ) Add half a cup of Vinegar to the Pan, then cover the dish to simmer for about 10 mins. There you go, its always eaten with rice, remember that. DESSERT: I know a bunch of us will tell you guys ate the Halo Halo the wrong way. lol. The Ice Cream on top serves a purpose, basically when your cup turns a slushy purple, yes I said slushy, because you are suppose to MIX MIX ( Halo Halo ) it first before consuming. Yes, pound that spoon into the crushed ice repeatedly until all the bits are moving around the cup. Once its all NAHALO ( MIXED ) its go time. hahaha.

@@TravelstoFreedom Wow, you pinned me, hahaha. Thanks. Seriously tho, You will find that going to a local market in the provinces will help you if you wish to cook your own Filipino dishes. If you go to the Vegetable vendors, and ask them to assemble the ingredients to a dish, it can be done within their vicinity. The cost is also minimal when you do it this way. This method is also practiced in the Wet Market when you are buying chicken, pork, or beef. Just tell the butcher, I'm cooking Adobo, they will cut the portions for you. Going to local markets will tell you how the locals really live, when you go to Supermarkets, its not the same. Love your videos, take care.

Hi, what you ordered was a "tapsilog" - tapa is a cured marinated beef in soy sauce, seasonings, garlic and vinegar "si" is the fried garlic rice called "si"nangag" and "log" is the runny egg while Louie has the "longsilog" as "long" is for "longganiza" or sausage with same as "si"nangag fried garlic rice and "log" as the egg. The meats go great when dip to vinegar served together with it!
And that lime you said on the "sisig" is "calamansi" and you're supposed to squeezed it onto the sisig and mixed it all together to add flavor. You both all got the famous meals on the menu!
And every foreigner always eat "halo-halo" mistakenly first time. You should mix it before eating and "halo-halo" means mix-mix!

Halo Halo is meant to be mixed and stirred. The first step is stabbing the ice using the long spoon. Push the ice down repeatedly until the ice cream, shaved ice and all the chunky ingredients are all mixed together. Then it's time to eat it. The long fiber is from the jackfruit.

You are supposed to sprinkle the lime juice minus the seeds on the sisig and mix it all up while sizzling.
The lime cuts through the greasy fat. Some add some drops of maggi seasoning.
Sometimes served with a raw egg, chilies, chopped onions on top - which makes it necessary to mix up to cook it up on the sizzling plate.
Drink your red horse with that sisig. Perfect match.
If you need to know where halo-halo is sold you can ask the locals where its best version is served.

there are lots of things you can add or do once you have these like replacing water with coke or adding a little bit of sugar or adding chilis. the way you cook it could also be different like more sauce, less sauce even some tried baking when cooking this dish, so versatile

halo-halo is supposed to be eaten/drank with everything mixed up. besides, "halo-halo" literally translates to "mix-mix".
it will actually taste great once the ice is a bit melted or at least mixed thoroughly with everything else. then each spoonful or a sip, will have that mixed, sweet, milky dessert taste. :)

For halo-halo, you mix everything up, including the ube ice cream which will turn the dessert light purple. I'm surprised your friend who recommended it to you didn't tell you about mixing it up. Basic ingredients in adobo: soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, peppercorn, & bayleaf. Filipinos often eat 'family-style' as against per-person food. The dishes you ordered for lunch were likely good to be shared by 2-4 people. That way, everyone gets to taste all the dishes on the table by getting small servings of each dish on your plate.

FYI "halo" literally means "mix." So it literally means mix-mix, as in a sundry or mix of different ingredients. Some halo halo are served in a bowl, which makes it easier to mix. Getting halohalo at some local restaurants is sometimes a hit and miss thing. If you will be trying halohalo again, I suggest you get it at Mang Inasal (fast food place) instead. For me I prefer the banana/macapuno version. One thing they also do best in their halohalo is the shaved ice. You want it very fine so it literally melts in your mouth. If the shaved ice crystals are too big, they tend to clump together

The "silogs" define the quintessential Filipino breakfast.
"Silogs", a portmanteau of the words "sinangag (Filipino styled fried rice) and " itlog" (fried egg, typicall
The variety of the Filipino "silog" breakfast includes
TAPSILOG = tapa (Filipino styled fried or cured beef)
TOCILOG = tocino (Filipino sweet cured ham
LONGSILOG = Longganisa (Filipino styled Spanish sausage)
BANGSILOG = Bangus (Filipino fried milk fish)
plus many more silogs like danggit, hotdog, fried chicken
The common or the uniting theme to all these Filipino breakfast would therefore be the fried rice and the fried egg.
SI = sinangag (Filipino styled fried rice)
LOG = Fried egg either styled in sunny side up, scrambled, over easy.

Like chicken adobo everyone has their own version of halo-halo. The stringy fruit was jackfruit…..like you, I’m not a big fan of it also but It’s rare that people put that in a halo-halo. I find it puzzling that you’re supposed to mix the halo-halo thoroughly but they always fill it to the rim😀
