Don't hesitate to ask the locals. Filipinos love helping foreigners experience their culture. A simple "How do you eat this fish?" or "How do you use this oil?" would definitely spark a conversation from the locals. It made my experience there way better.
That is great to know! Thanks for the recommendation :) Everyone here is so nice!!
As everyone has already pointed out, most dishes in the Philippines are meant to be eaten with rice. These dishes are often well seasoned and strongly full-flavored, which the rice complements alongside some condiments like soy sauce, calamansi, vinegar, fish sauce, chili and/or banana ketchup. Visitors often misunderstand Filipino food to be salty or extra savory, but what it really needs is a rice side dish every time and some condiments for an extra twist.
That is great to know! Thank you for the information friend 🇵🇭 we will do that next time!
Those fried fishes need a dip, some vinegar with chilis would be great. And eating them with fried rice for breakfast would definitely be great.
White folks dont like rice unless its fried rice. They will never like filipino food its too exotic and strange. Pig face, salted fish, grilled intestines, peanut butter soup with shrimp paste, pig blood stew. The cuisine is too caveman style for westerners even other asians.
Yes, you are absolutely correct. Worth to mention is that a salted egg must be eaten with enough tomato slices to make it so delicious to eat.
Rice isn't a side dish, it's the staple for the main and side dishes.
The ice cream is called halo halo, and it means mix, so you have to mix it everything inside. That's why there is chopped ice underneath it.
Mix the mixed ingredients to savor the true flavor profile of Halo-halo, the various textures
That is great to know!! Thank you so much for the information friend :)
You telling us how delicious is the food or desert but actually you dont eat it correctly , HALO HALO needs to be mixed very very well before you digging on it thats already a lie when you dont taste it the whole thing yet and not even doing the right thing before digging in on it , and the Chicken must be dip in a sauce which is vinegar soy sauce with calamamsi on it so you can taste it the way how it really deliciously made it …dont bullshit filipino with our very own food mostly all of you foreign bloggers said oh delicious oh so yummy oh so perfect but actually i dont think so you are telling the truth…. Keep it real guys!
@@user-uy9ib4uy9myou really need to chill out. Other commenters have been very helpful. You, on the other hand, are just being rude.
If you try dried fish or tuyo without any hesitation and other filipino cuisines expect your filipino subscriber to multiply .
The way we ate the fish is get a portion like pricking it with finger to separate the bone..
That makes sense! Thanks for the help!
So jealous watching you guys, haven’t been home since 2019,I call Southern California home but my heart will always be in the Philippines
We hope you can visit soon! You are right, it is a wonderful place 🇵🇭 We also love Southern California!
I live for yalls international food tours. Thanks so much for sharing with us as always!
This comment made us smile!! Thank you friend :)
I am looking forwards to see your videos, wherever you are.
You are always positive and in good mood, and that is great.
Rolling in the Finnish snow was one of the high lights.
This means more to us than you know! We really appreciate you watching us all over the world! Rolling in the snow was definitely a highlight for us too ❄️ Thank you very much!
You have to make the dip for the Mang Inasal chicken, typically a combination of soy sauce, calamansi, and chillies. That’s supposed to balance out the sweetness of the chicken glazing.
That sounds delicious!! Thanks for the recommendation :)
that dried fish is good it complement with rice or garlic rice or champarado for breakfast.
That is good to know! Thank you for the information :)
Filipino food will never appeal to outsiders. Chocolate with salted fish is just not apetizing, peanut butter soup with shrimp paste, pork blood stew, sizzling pork head this sounds like nomadic cuisine.
you should ask the chef how to eat all the food before you citisize....
We also love dips and condiments, those dried fish in the beginning need to be dipped in spiced vinegar and paired with rice.
We love that! So good to know. Thank you so much for the information :)
You Two are Brave . You are Awesome for Trying the Fish😀
Haha!! Thank you so much friend 🐟
@@JacobandJennyTravelFilipinos in general don’t eat the fish head & tails of that particular fried one. The only exception is the really tiny ones that are used as toppings or chips or the really large ones like Tuna in which the face has large chunks of meat & collagen.
Breakfast fish is salted and sun dried fish. Salty and fish. Like anchovies
That is great to know! Thanks for the information :)
The springroll with chilli inside we called it locally as "Dynamite". The chilli flavor bursts in your mouth.
It is sooo good! It was our favorite food! Thanks for watching :)
Vinegar based Ceviche actually originated from the Philippines, and were then brought to Mexico through the Manila Galleon by the Spaniards.
That is great to know! Thanks for the information :)
The whole fish is pretty salty when I tried it, but eating it with rice balances it out. I’ve recently visited the Philippines and got to try out some of the foods you featured here and shared my experience on my channel. Loved adobo, turon, halo-halo, and taho. Awesome. Gotta go back next year for lechon!🇵🇭
best way to experience real filipino food i from someones home..let their family best cook like their grandma, mom and aunties cook.. or even dads that would be the best..
I am sure you are so right! That would be amazing :)
the "chocolate one" is mung bean, and the "pastry" is sweetened ripe jackfruit
For sure you'll enjoy eating all of them
It was all so delicious 🇵🇭
Most viewed! Congrats!😀
Thanks friend! Cheers 🥳
The Fish.is called Tuyo or Salted Dried fish. You eat it with sinangag or garlic rice. The Tuyo is dip in vinegar concoction (vinegar, garlic, cayenne pepper, paminta, onions). We don't eat it fish only but with garlic rice coz it's salty. You wouldn't like it like that but if you will eat accordingly it's enjoyable and delicious specially with coffee.
That is great to know!! Thank you so much for your comment 🇵🇭
The fish looks more like fried tawilis. Tawilis is a kind of sardine that thrives in Taal Lake. It does look like dried fish, but it's not; if it were tuyo or dried fish, you wouldn't be able to bite off any part of the fish bec it would be hard, not crunchy, and too salty to eat without the rice. The trick, for some who don't like the taste of the head and the texture of the scales, is just cut off the head then scrape off the scales starting from the tail part pushing your spoon toward the head.
Eat that tuyo fish with fried rice dip it with vinegar dont hesitate to ask enjoy your stay in the Philippines 🎉
The oil is for the rice...I believe it's the chicken's natural dripping, along with the marinade sauce that they use.
That is great to know! Thank you for the information :)
10:50 Halo halo means mix-mix, so the best way to eat it, is to get your spoon and mix everything.
We need to do that! Thanks for the information :)
I like the energy from both of you. Suggestion : try to use more descriptors other than "it has good flavor". Try likening things to tastes you're familiar with so more viewers can relate. Good luck! 🍀👍🏼
Thanks for your kind words!! 🇵🇭♥️
The fried fish is paired with champorado, a rice porridge cooked with cacao powder. So it has a chocolatey flavor.
Wow sounds great to try! Thanks for the information :)
The flavor profile of the country is sour like adobo, kinilaw and sinigang. We also love to dip food in vinegar or with calamansi. Most foreigners will say food is a little salty at times that's why it should be eaten with rice.
That is great! We love sour foods! Thank you for the information :)
You can choose different types of food delicacies in the Philippines 7,000 islands.
Enjoy your travel, sana all.
Thank you friend :)
Look for boneless bangus (milkfish). It could be fried, grilled, or cooked as part of sinigang sour soup. Ask for advice or service from the waiters to mix the right condiments or dipping sauces to round out each dish.
That is good to know!! Thanks friend :)
Spell 'drooling'. I'm literally drooling while watching this
Hahaha!! It was all so delicious 🤤
The spring roll is called lumpiang shanghai
Kilawen or kinilaw is fish marinated with vinegar, onion, chilli pepper & salt
Sisig is made of fried pigs face onion chilli Mayo salt & pepper
It was all so delicious!! Thank you so much for your comments 🇵🇭
Inasal has great chicken and the halo halo you are meant to stir it all up b4 you eat, like your energy fun and positive vibe cheers !
It was great!! And thank you so much for your encouraging words♥️
The Tuyo (fried fish) is usually dipped with some "sawsawan" which is a like some vinegar which will lessen the saltiness .
That is great to know! Thank you for the information friend 🇵🇭

My recommendation is the famous “pandesal” Or filipino sweet bread especially when its fresh!
That toasted with butter is sooo good! Best to have it during breakfast and we like to dip it in our coffee 😎
i love how you love eating of filipino food❤❤
It is sooo delicious ♥️ thank you for watching!
Wow yummy!😊
It was all so delicious! Thanks for watching :)
Hey I'm glad you are visiting my country. I was born there but raised in the US. Here's some traditional foods you should try. The most famous is balut. You have to keep an open mind when you find out what it is or just try it out. Many locals will tell Americans eating balut it will give you long lasting bedroom endurance, lol. Which is a story. Lumpia as also named as Shanghai. And if your about to try some night time street food or kalindaria, (mom & pop owned restaurant ). You should try banana que, Adidas, beta max and qwek qwek(quail eggs). Oh when you buy some water always buy it in sealed bottle. Very very cheap to buy.
If you you need to use the the bathroom the word for that is the C R, comfort room. And always keep some toilet paper, wet wipes and hand sanitizer. To clean yourself you would have to use a tubo, a small scoop bucket to wash down there.
And you're on the main Island of Luzon you can tour 100 islands and head north to the mountains of baguio. Another tourist destination which the temperature will drop at least 12° less.
If you decide to buy any local souvenir you can wheel and deal to lower the price. Some tourists areas when buying stuff you would have to ask. Sometimes they will raise the price because your an American. Oh when you have peso, Filipino money. Make sure you have lesser bill count. Like if you can only get 500P bill notes try to get 100P peso notes. Most Filipinos will not have change. They will try to scam you the rest of the peso note like whatever you buy form100P but given them 500P. They most likely won't have change. 7-11 you won't have a problem with that.
Well hope you both have an awesome visit and if you have any questions feel free to ask..
This comment was so helpful!! Thank you so much for taking the time to write all that out. We truly appreciate it! Cheers friend 🇵🇭
The breakfast fish looks like a unique type of fish. Taal Lake used to be part of the bay and they got trapped in the lake due to a volcanic eruption, and it slowly turned to freshwater. The sardines adapted to the new environment becoming rare freshwater sardines. You wont easily find it anywhere else. Truly a rare experience. It's called "Tawilis".
So interesting!! Thanks for that story :)
Lime is a Lemon version in the Philippines, Lime use to squeeze and mix on the Sisig to add Citrus flavor, the Sisig is a Pig Face, Nose, Ears too... 😊
We squeezed it on the sisig and it was so delicious!! Thank you for the information friend 🇵🇭
You should mix the Halo-halo.. Halo-halo means " Mix-mix" mix it to achieve the full flavor
I miss Mang Inasal and Philippines! 😔 I can’t wait to go back Philippines next year! 🇵🇭
It was delicious!! Thats great you'll be back next year 🇵🇭
and day by day i will give you an array of Foods and Drinks which is famour for Filipino taste
That dried fish should be eaten with dipping sauce and rice and it's recommend with fried rice with matching coffee it is best for breakfast.
That is great to know! Thanks for the recommendation :)
enjoy your stay in the philippines
Thank you so much! We are loving it 🇵🇭
Mang Inasal was founded by a 20 year old student turned business man in the Philippines. I think you ordered the Chicken which has unlimited rice, u can ask the waiter for another rice because for free.
That is amazing!! The food was so delicious, we loved it! 🇵🇭 thank you for your comments friend!
filipino cuisine is very regional..hope they come up with Filipino Fusion Cuisine where they can mix all the good dishes of various regions together..
That sounds amazing!! We definitely need to try that :)
The fish from breakfast looked like fried tawilis. Tawilis is the only fresh water sardines and they are only found in Taal lake. They are an endangered specie so fishing is limited and seasonal. It is supposed to be crispy fried and dipped in spicy vinegar. Also found in Taal lake is the only fresh water trevally or maliputo. Also limited or seasonal fishing. You should try it when you visit Tagaytay. Be safe and enjoy.
That is great to know!! Thank you for the information 🇵🇭
Welcome enjoy your visit my country hope you enjoy God bless.
It is a wonderful place! Thanks for watching :)
I'm Filipino guy from California my beautiful Australian wife so loves Filipino food.
That is awesome!! The food is so delicious 🇵🇭 thanks for watching!
It is called Tinapa or smoked fish. You should eat only the meat part, not including the bone, and it is good to pair it with fried rice.🙂❤👍
That is great to know! Thank you so much for your comment 🇵🇭
The dried fish (Tuyo in Tagalog) is supposed to be dipped in vinegar to balance the saltiness and fishy taste.
Next to taste, Sinigang, Bulalo, Pinakbet, Lechon kawali, Kare Kare, you can eat in Manam restaurant. Thank you for trying our local dishes ❤
That is great to know! Thank you for the recommendations 🇵🇭
I was having fun watching you two experiment with Filipino food. Just two quick comments about the food. The Sisig is good I have to agree but I wish the servers explained to you that you need to mix the egg with the meat portion of it and add the Kalamansi (small Philippine lime). The same thing for the Halo-Halo, you're supposed to mix everything together before eating it. Hopefully, you'll get to try Pork Lechon and pork Sinigang (pronounced as see, knee, gang), Oh, I forgot about the little fish. That was salted and sun-dried then fried. I don't eat the head and you're supposed to remove the scale. Dipping it in vinegar with hot chile is better, but it's all good...
That is all great to know!! We did end up mixing everything in the sisig together and it was delicious 🤤 thank you for your comment friend 🇵🇭
Hi, welcome to the Philippines, I love the energy and being happy and smiling on the vlog my friendly advice since you are VLogging the philippines and having the experience especially on food. Like any others who commented, I would suggest to research or ask any waiter or even managers on how food is properly eaten or what kind of food is it. As some Filipinos might get offended by eating it wrongly as people all over the world will watch watch and may impose. Wrong impression that the food is not good simply because of wrong way on how to eat it. Don't be afraid to ask any one. Filipinos are very accommodating and helpful to tourist. We are always proud on our food. :) I hope you don't get me wrong :) I love watching tourist experiencing our country and what we caN offer. But sometimes doing it the wrong way specially on food resulting to not liking by you and other tourist might not want to try it because they saw it in your vlog. We always have To be responsible. Looking forward to see you're experience. Enjoy and have a blast. And being in other countries you have to get out from your comfort zone :) peace. Love lots.
That is all great to know!! Thank you so much for your comment ♥️🇵🇭 Everyone has been so kind here!
Welcome guys, just a tip - if you order food and there is lime or calamansi, its usually sprinkled on the food itself like the sisig. Just ask the foodseever or the waiter what the condiments are for.
The chicken oil is poured on to the rice for more flavor. Halohalo desert should be mixed all together while its melting so you get the smooth consistency of melted ice together the mixture of stuff in there. It doesnt hurt to ask the food server or the food seller how the food is eaten or blended for more flavor and enjoyment. Enjoy guys.
We did squeeze the calamansi on it and it was so delicious!! Thank you so much for all the great information friend 🇵🇭
The fish is called TINAPA, it is smoked fish, usually small sardines. We do not usually eat the head or the center bones, We remove the flesh first like when eat whole fish. But when it comes to small fried fish, we do eat the crunchy head but not the center bones. fried fish is usually paired with a vinegar or soy sauce dip with calamansi.
you are assuming it wss smoked. so desperate make it sound very special. It is called Tuyo and not Tinapa.
That is great to know!! Thanks for the information 🇵🇭
When i go to Moa my go to restaurant is Sea/Salt ;) good choice!
Wow that is great to hear!! We really enjoyed the food there :) Thank you so much for your comment 🇵🇭
U have to mix rice if u eat dried fish..coz, it's salty
You call that Tuyo. That is good with fried rice , dipped in vinegar Halo halo means Mix mix, mix everything it must have milk in it. mix and enjoy!
That is great to know! Thank you for the information 🇵🇭
Yes, Filipino dishes are almost all eaten with rice. The halo-halo needs to be “MIXED” before eating. Please research on how to eat dishes first before consuming. So that the review is more accurate😅👌🏻Halo means “mix”
Oh I’m happy you guys chose to visit the Philippines. People there are always friendly. Beautiful resorts & beaches there! Have a grand time!!
halo halo has no meaning, until recent years. Filipinos just love to give trivia to Afhams.
@@eduardochavacano halo means mix😆

Welcome to the Philippines. You'll best enjoy Filipino dishes with rice. Our food are purposedly made with a little bit of salt because they're expected to be eaten with rice to even out the flavor. Enjoy your stay😊
Thank you so much! We are loving it 🇵🇭 and we appreciate the information you gave us! :)
I highly recommend you to try Andok's Rotisserie Chicken and Liempo/Pork Belly. By the way, Filipinos love making our own dipping sauces, so you'd typically see soy sauce, fresh chilies, calamansi and vinegar at restaurants or you could ask the staff for some if you want (some restaurants are self-service when it comes to condiments, while others are not). To prepare the dipping sauce, what you should do is put the chili in a soy dish, cut it up with your fork and spoon, then squeeze the calamansi and add either soy sauce or vinegar or you could also mix both of them together if you want to.
That all sounds so delicious! Thank you so much for the information friend 🇵🇭
Have you tried calamansi juice, better than lemon

I really wish that local businesses, especially those catering to international diners, would consider providing simple guide on how to fully enjoy their menu offerings. It would be amazing if they could offer handouts or explanations to help foreigners appreciate our cuisine better. As Filipinos, we should pay attention to these small details to ensure our foreign guests fully experience the Pinoy way of life. Let's provide them with all the necessary information. It's quite disappointing in this regard. On a positive note, it's truly heartwarming to see Jacob and Jenny enjoying their visit. Have a great time, both of you!
Thank you for your concern! And thank you for your kind words about us! Cheers friend 🇵🇭
Some rich people in the Philippine love that dried fish....or what we called tu`yo
So interesting!! Thanks for the information :)
We believe as filipinoes that eating pancit/stir fried noodles makes your life longer. So eat it while in the philippines.
That sounds great! Thanks for the recommendation friend 🇵🇭
Ask the locals how to eat certain foods. For example the Sisig: that small lime is actually "kalamansi" and should be squeezed. Then you mix it all together including the egg (should be over easy, usualy raw broken over the whole stuff while it's sizzling). The kalamansi is usually squeezed on soy or fish sauce and used as a dip for most dishes.
We did squeeze it on the sisig and it was so delicious!! Thank you so much for your comment 🇵🇭
@@JacobandJennyTravel same thing when you encounter pancit bihon, canton or palabok. Enjoy!
For Breakfast or Brunch, always ask for Combo Meal; To-Si-Log (Sweet Marinated Pork, Fried Rice, Fried Egg).. then Bac-Si-Log ( Bacon, Fried Rice, Fried Egg), also Tap-Si-Log (Salty Sweet Marinated Beef, Fried Rice, Fried Egg), and Si-Si-Log ( Sizzling Chop Pork, Fried Rice, Fried Egg).. 💕🇵🇭
