Ricky Reed - packing the bearings with grease is called for by the Ford shop manual. The grease provides essential lubrication while the diff lube slowly seeps back into the hub.
Thanks for not spending 10 minutes of the video on how to remove the wheel. I always feel like if you need instruction on how to remove the wheel, you shouldn't be replacing a wheel bearing.
Having a 2010 F350 and knowing I need to do this made the video extremely helpful.
Thank you for such a well-made and instructional video. And for the links to the sockets needed. Really appreciate it.
Good job gentlemen. Thank you for giving me all the information needed for this installation, right down to the torque and preset positioning. This is the first video that I've seen that shows packing an oil lubricated bearing with grease. I just usually fill the space between the bearings with oil during assembly but I think I am going to adopt your system.
I'm glad you posted this!
What a awsome mechanic video. I have a 2000 Ford excursion 7.3 powerstroke. Now i can do this job my self. Thanks😊👍🇧🇻
Thank you. This helped me out a lot. Liked how you explained it and how you made sure the camera caught it all.
Great job you guys. I did the rear bearings and seals on both sides. This video really helped me a lot I ordered the tool needed. It was perfect. I was wondering about that rear end gear oil and you showed that to. Well I have the passenger side done and now moving on to the drivers side. Reverse thread. Thanks again for the great video. I will watch it again.
Be a lot easier to break the lugs loose if you switch around and push down on the bar.
So I watched the video just to see what you used to install the new seal. I can second that the Ford manual does say to prelube the bearings with a hi temp grease.
u guys did a great job really helped alot
TY. Watched this video and replaced my rear axle seal like a champ. Great Video
Thank you for sharing, very informative, really appreciate that.
Thanks guy’s that was an awesome video it helps me out a lot keep up the good work !
Best video for this job!!
Thank you for the video. Question: I'm having an issue with my inner seal leaking. I've replaced it 3 times so far, and each time I cleaned off the axle/shaft. I've heard that some people use these sleeves in addition to the inner seal. I'm getting really frustrated!
Should of rotated the hub while tightening
Thanks I got to do this to my truck asap. Thanks guys
Great detailed video
Thanks for posting
great video guys
Very helpful and detailed.
Did u guys instal the oil slinger? Is there 1 or 2 on each rear tire? Did not change the 2 racer rings for the new bearings, why not? I’m replacing NEW rear calipers with pads, emergency parking shoes with spring kit, and dust plate shield.. Should I replace bearings etc. etc. like U guys did? I have a 2010 F250 Super Duty 5.4L engine 4 X 4, Is the driver’s side hub tighten to the left like your truck ?
How tight was the fit of the outer bearing on the spindle? I'm doing the wheel bearings on my truck and the outer bearing is pretty loose.
On getting that inner seal out.....drift punch from the front knocks um right out. and you shouldn't pack those bearing, full float axles and their bearings are flooded, and dont need any additional grease. Torque axle bolts to 80ft lbs and use use blue thread locker....and lube the oring before you lightly seat the axle with a hammer, dont run it in with the bolts.
You definitely under torqued some critical bolts. Check out this page for guidance or refer to service manual. www.superdutypsd.com/torque_specifications.php
@@chattingsquaw Thanks ! That page is on my computer now..."99 F250 / 7.3
I’ve got a 2012 dually and the rear wheel had what looks like black oil residues and I just did the brakes and found there’s also some residue on the hub part that sticks out through wheels (not sure the real term). It seems slow but I’m not sure, is this my problem?
Good job, straight to the point. Thanks.
I cleaned my axle shaft. Do I need to lube it before putting it back in it or does that happen automatically when I start driving? Thanks.
Please emphasize putting a jackstand under your axle and not relying just on a floor jack for safety.
Need to do this to my 05 F250. What is the ford part number for the seal ? Please and thank you.
sooooo helpful thank you bud
I love how in sll videos those hubs just pull out fawk
Excelente vídeo. I have a question my new bearing comes with a steel ring. But if I put it in the seal wouldn’t fit. I noticed you didn’t install a Steel ring either. I aúlla precciate the help
melazita1214 that's a new bearing race. If you're replacing the bearings you should replace the race
Thanks for the vid!
As i understand it from the service manual backing off 5 clicks for new bearings. 7 clicks for existing / used bearings.
Hi Peter, I am very confused about the torque value of that nut. And also of the other nuts. Could you share with me the service manual?
@@maximilianorocca5164 The initial torque spec of 60 ft lbs seats the bearings. Backing off of that 5 or 7 clicks gets them where they should be. The axle shaft nuts torque spec is 80 ft lbs. I have no way to share the service manual with you as they are paper copies. I would imagine AllDatadiy.com has most if not all the same info as my printed copies.
Thanks you very much for your quick response @peter. Im going to check all the nuts again. Also, thanks you very much for the website you recomended. It awesome!
Do you have a video of a dually truck
How many oil slingers to u pull in the truck driver and passenger rear hub
How do get the yellow spring on the brakes shoes
OMG. Who was the jack leg that replaced the parking brakes on this ride and thought they could not replace the hub seal!!!!!! Nothing like doing it all twice to save $20. 😂😂😂😂😂 Now ya have brand new oil soaked brake pads. No doubt if you read to pack the bearings with grease “In the Ford Manual” on the first install you did it threw the rear seal. From the looks of the axel flang at the start of the video you might’ve want to check that O-ring where you pinched it running those axe nuts in instead of just pushing it in. If it’s giving to much resistance the O-ring is pinched and will leak and leave a stain just like the one on the hub at the beginning of your video.
Jw if the grease gun stuff is as good to use on the bearing
You don't need to grease the bearings it's an oil bath That's why you Add gear oil to the rear end
Really good video guys. I wish everyone made such an informative video. Two quest though….1. What were the axle bolts Torqued to and isn’t there supposed to be a gasket on it? 2. Is it the same process for a f350 with the V10?
Lol, it was torqued with an impact gun in this video. I believe spec is 70 ft/lbs. I have no idea if V10 is the same as the 7.3L. Should be the same if you have a sterling 10.5 axle though!
@@caspervalente4227 you to back it out 7 clicks
Does the E350 has same system?
Why the treed goes to right side?
good job I wish I yall would have done mine so I wouldn't had to get dirty
With no jack stands, I expected you guys to be wearing flip flops.
Very informative video 👌
My F-truck and I thank you
2011 F350 SRW 6.7L. I paid $22 per quart for the Motorcraft 75W-140 Synthetic Rear Axle lubricant and wouldn't want to contaminate it with an incompatible grease. What Motorcraft wheel bearing grease does the Ford manual recommend? I assume it would also be synthetic. Is it Motorcraft XG-11?
When you put the axel back on, does it matter.how.you took it off? Is there a specific way it should go on(bolt pattern).
And after the hub is on, and everything else and it still squeals, is that bc hub but is still to tight?
You put a spring in wrong, common problem
Do the axle shafts not have a gasket or seal? I didn't see you put one on. I just saw you slide it in and tighten it down.
Oring
Great video, saved me a few hundred bones
How do you know you need this done where does it leak to or at?
Back side of your drum or rotor dust cover would be covered in rear end grease or oil
Thanks for the vid gents!
Is there any o rings or other seals In the actual hub itself? Or it’s just the one seal you replaced in either side?
There is an oring that seals it
Print?
Is the rear hub assy the same as the front??
No front hubs bolt on
There's no outer seal? Mine's leaking from where the axle flange mates with outer portion of the hub. I assumed that there was a seal there that was leaking.
There’s an o-ring on the axle shaft itself. You’ll see it when you pull the shaft out of the hub. It’s just behind the outer flange
What size was the tool that u used?
@Kathleen Shaw thank you
Caliper=18mm (2001...F250)
Great Video
Those bearings are lubricated by the diff fluid, don't pack them with grease. Drop them in some gear lube to make sure they're "wet" and install them.
how do they not know this?
Those bearings are supposed to be packed with grease like the others said to lube the bearings until the heat lube gets up to them. Just giving them a bath is insufficient. It will run off, probably before your done with jacking it down!
So I’m confused. Why would u pack oil feed bearings
Because they don't have a clue on what they are doing...
Ford calls for it.
Theirs no oil its dry when your doing the job and you pack them so you wont weld the bearing to the axle when you dont have oil you have grease for a couple of miles until the oil flows to the side you worked on.
@@ricardorodriguez-se7tp no they are in a oil bath. If they werent you wouldn't leak axle fluid when the seal went bad
I just did mine you don’t pack the bearings that’s why it has an oil slinger but go ahead and fry your bearings when the grease dries and oil can’t bathe it lmao
where can i buy this? and whats the name? link would be nice
What part or tool are you needing
2 Mostly Bald Guys the seal
So just a note. Dont pack the bearing. Use a trans assembly lube. These bearings are in oil while they are in the tube. Trans lube melts down into an oil. If that's all you have just use a little till they get oil.
Ford calls for it in service manual that is why I do it.
Nice jackstands. ; - /
7 clicks back for original bearings 5 clicks for brand new bearings. And an ounce of 75 140 in the hub and rotate the up while twerking it down to set the seal and then backing off. Good video though
Actually that washer that you called a slinger is what pushes the steel part of the seal on to the axle housing.
Mark Patton wrong lol
Only reason I down thumbed is because you do not I repeat do not grease an oiled bearing. Service information says use a light coat to hold oil slinger. Nothing else.
I see you use sae 80w90 gl5 oil.... My 2000 Excursion 7.3 powerstroke use 75w-140 limited slip. Damn!!!! I use the same oil you do. I found it out later that i use the wrong oil... Owners guide, is a good thing to read🤪
Ooh, that poor oil seal
you use to be a tanker
?
the death before dismount tattoo
I'll have to ask my buddy I wasnt in the military thanks for serving if you did.
Some of you are RUclips mechanics and it shows
Whats so funny? I have owned a Powerstroke since new,2006 has 312,000 miles on it without complaint,so whats so funny bright boy?
It's not "reverse threads" it's left handed threads.
Sorry didn't know we had to be exact on wording like soda or pop lol
Wow. They mean the same thing dumbass
We all need a Blake 😁
Smh...no safety glasses...good video though 🇺🇸👍🏻
