  • Only most of the 2nd half of this game exists and it's missing the final kick attempt by Pittsburgh and they lose. I added NFL Films footage from This is the NFL for that week.
This was a Sunday Night game instead of MNF. But I don't have a lot of 70s MNF left.

I was just a kid, but I remembered watching this game. Cappelletti was a hell of a RB.

jeeez. we all know the Steelers in the 1970's were great, but can we all acknowledge how tough and gritty the Los Angeles Rams were.? they had no problem slugging it out with Pittsburgh. no fear. took it to them

Indeed, they nearly beat them in the Super Bowl a year later.

1978 the Rams defeated the Falcons, Cowboys, Steelers, and Oilers! All playoff teams but once again after shutting down the Cowboys in the first half of the NFC Championship Game got mauled by turning over the ball and lost 28-0. It wasn't until the next season when they barely made the playoffs and had to go it all on the road did they finally break through and get to their first Super Bowl. They played the Steelers tough, but the Super Bowl film summed it all up for the Rams. They gained more respect losing to the Steelers than they had got just getting to the Super Bowl. Those Rams teams were loaded, but lacked that Championship ingredient most Champions have...❤
They could've easily won a couple of Super Bowls but they laughed their way through most seasons and were not mentally ready for Championship pressure. So in 79 they had to battle all season just to get in, and when most of their injured players got back they got tough and made their run. Before anyone says it, Tampa Bay was 100 percent legit, and shutting them out proved they were ready because we all know the old Rams of previous years would've found a way to lose. That was the 70`s Rams.

Didn,t have Joe Montana. Always with quarterback controversies.

I agree....I'm a die-hard Steelers fan since I can remember. The names were just so catchy ...... Franco, Rocky, Lynn Swann, Mean Joe Green, Jack Lambert, on and on along with the fact that my little league football team was black and gold. In the decade of the 70's from 1972 until 79 the Rams were the only team in the NFL including Oakland who had a winning record against the Steelers the only game they lost was in the Super Bowl

you got a weird take on it. the Rams in the 1970's were tough and gritty . to say they didn't have heart is one of the dumbest things i've ever heard. it's more accurate to say they didn't have a franchise QB. had they, winning at least 1 if not 2 Super Bowls would have been a realistic possibility.

@@theraven3481 yup. heading into that SB the Los Angeles Rams had an all-time winning record against Pittsburgh of 12-1-1. and Bradshaw and co. were 0-3 against L.A. in that super bowl Bradshaw said the Steelers sideline was getting real "nervous and fidgety" in the 3rd quarter with this feeling that "these guys have our number".

Cappelletti was a strong runner and great lead blocker. Should have gotten more play time as a pro.
