MICOLE WHYTE Fritz Shurmur also deserves a ton of credit. The 49ers scored 17, 20, 14, and 10 points in the four Packer wins from Jan 1996 to Jan 1998...including three playoff games. That’s 15.3 ppg. Remarkable

@Roosevelt Darbey their defense wasn't hurting not having Deion Sanders they had the number 1 defense in the National Football League. They lost his game against the Packers because of turnovers. Same reason why they lost the 92 NFC Championship game to the Cowboys at home turnovers 2 interceptions by Steve Young of muffed Punt by Dexter Carter. Deion aint have shit to do with this loss.

After being the doormat in the '70's and 80's , the Packers had three straight 9-7 seasons in the '90's before finally breaking through with an 11-5 season in '95. This game was the turning point in Packer history and showed that they finally belonged. I remember it fondly as I was the only Packer fan in a bar dominated by 49er fans. They didn't even give me a hard time since they fully expected to win. As the game went on, they didn't say anything to me. They were in shock.

This is the first of three straight years the Niners were knocked out of the playoffs by the Packers. Including this game, the Packers won 13 out of the next 14 games against the 49ers, the one exception being the Terrell Owens game in the 98 playoffs.

    • @tempest20000

goldenraven20 They would have won that if the refs weren’t blind. Jerry Rice fumbled the ball and the Packers recovered it. The refs ruled he was down but the replay showed he fumbled it before he went down. Even Summerall and Madden saw it. Two plays later was the Owens catch. If they would have ruled correctly, GB would would have went to the Divisional round and most likely have beaten Atlanta and they would have made it back to the NFC Championship game. And they didn’t have instant replay at that point. That game happens. Very next year, they bring back instant replay.

This was a huge game for the Packers but it was one of those "climbing up the mountain" type deals for them as they got creamed by the Cowboys. Still, this was a necessary thing for the Packers to keep the hunger to succeed alive for them.

GB was driving down the field, and thankfully, Larry Brown intercepted a pass near the sideline. One, or two plays later, Emmitt took the handoff from Troy, and ran it in for a TD to make it 38-27. Only then did I breathe a sigh of relief. GB went toe-to-toe with the Cowboys that day. Brett Favre did put on a clinic.

Was only 11 when this game happened but I remember it like it was yesterday. I remember the sense of dread when Jacke had a FG blocked on Green Bays opening drive, thinking it was a foreshadowing of things to come. Then the Walker fumble happened and Green Bay's offense was moving the ball all over. Remember the stunned crowd at halftime as nobody saw this coming, not even Packers fans in their wildest dreams. Without Ricky Waters (who had signed with the Eagles) and Deion (who had signed with the Cowboys) they were pretty much flat. They were badly exposed in this game, the Cowboys would have beaten then easily, probably more than the Packers. Because in the NFC Championship the very next week they had the Cowboys on the ropes, if Farve doesn't throw that interception in the 4th quarter, they probably win that game, but that's hard to tell, seeing as how good the Cowboys were at the time. In December they were just bad, but they got hot at the right time and won it all. It's a toss up between the Cowboys and the Packers and who would've won.
