I turned our "shop" into our pantry. It's taken me months to move everything out there. Will be using a window ac/heat unit... keep it around 68° all year long! We have 1 upright, 1 small chest freezers...2 1/2walls full of food! Stackable washer/dryer, water heater also in there. Freezer dryer coming end of January... already set up for...

I want to tell you about how many people in Sweden react when I tell them about canning.
The other day I attended the board meeting of local garden club where I'm a member and while we were having dinner one of the other members asked about canning, because she had noticed my interest in canning on Facebook where I sometime post about canning.
She remembered how her mother used to can and was curious if I used the same equipment.
When I started to tell them about modern canning some of the others said things like "But WHY?!", "Why would you can vegetable soup when it's so easy to just make soup when you have dinner?".
    And so on.
I tried to explain but they could not understand why I would go to the trouble and expense.
I, to be honest, got quite offended, but of course I didn't show them I was hurt by their reactions.
Now I've turned the hurt in to determination.
And when there's a power outage I'll heat a home made can of soup and pity the other board members. 😊
Thank you Leisa, for everything you've taught me and others. ❤❤️❤️

I'll make a roux in my pan with flour and butter, then using the lid on the jar, pour the broth into the roux pan. Makes a nice easy "gravy" then dump in the meat and veggies to warm. Easy stew or shepherds pie base.

Omg the sale at Forjars was totally amazing! I stocked up on lids and even though I really didn’t need another canner…I bought the canner anyway 🤦🏼‍♀️
While reorganizing my pantry room I’ve come across several jars that have unsealed…I found one jar of green tomatoes that I had left the ring on and as I was taking the ring off it’s contents came bubbling out 😮 I wished I would’ve had my camera on because that was a perfect example as to why you take the rings off

In my area, if you can get beef for under 5 dollars a pound its a deal! I really love that you're reminding us of the great things to put on the shelf for a later time. It so easy to make the barley or rice and pasta when you open it. I also heat it back up. I thicken it for gravy and serve over some potatoes. It warms the soul 😊❤

I was in the mood for chicken stew the other nite..so I opened a jar of my chicken soup..(chicken, carrots, celery, onions & broth)..along with a jar of my potatoes, undrained. Heated it up..slightly mashed the potatoes a bit for smaller pieces, thickened it up & was wonderful! Thanks for another great video, Leisa

      @danamarie8718 25 дней назад

@@sharimottram8266Sorry I am not Leisa. She knows way more than I do about canning but I thought I would respond because I had a similar question a few years ago and did not find an acceptable canning solution. The NCHFP says you should not can purées or mash vegetables before canning. They do have instructions for canning both sweet potatoes and winter squash on their website. However, those are for cubes/chunks. The instructions are specific for pre-cooking each and doesn’t say anything about roasting. You could follow their instructions for canning and then purée the squash and sweet potatoes later when you open the can. I tried it with butternut squash a few years ago when my garden produced so many even my neighbors did not want any more. I was not happy with the result. I feel like the squash lost so much flavor during the canning process. It might have been better if when preparing the soup I reduced the canning liquid and used it, but I didn’t think about that until after I drained the jars.

Can I cook the beef soup in the instant pot first and then use my pressure canner?

We currently have beef brisket on sale. There is a lot of fat in it. Do you do anything with the extra fat? I was thinking of raw packing the meat.

I'd raw pack it like any beef.

Hello, Got my lids on Thursday before black Friday, and on Black Friday I order my new canner, I wasn't able to enter the Suttons10 code for the additional discount but purchased it anyway. I thought I could only use the code once. I contacted Forjars to let them know not only I wasn't able to get my discount but Leisa did not get the credit for my purchase. VERY HAPPY with Forjars- they responded quickly refunded my additional discount and stated Leisa would still get the credit. Received my canner - IT IS BEAUTIFUL- LOVE IT - canning UGLY CHICKEN today. Thanks Leisa for all the support from your videos. and BIG KUDOS to FORJARS. Very Happy Customer.

How big are your freezers? I am going to get a 10cu ft chest freezer this weekend. I would like larger but space and money is an issue

I have never heard of an arm roast. I don’t think that is a common cut of meat here in WA state.

if you follow NCHFP /guidelines no ...can only can a vinegar type sauerkraut or pickled for example.... you could boil/ saute some cabbage and then add it to your jarred soup when you open it to use

I blanch my cabbage and keep it in the freezer just so I can add it to soups throughout the year. Comes out fantastic.
