When my grandmother made kraut, she would trim the core down from the cabbage, and put it in the kraut to ferment, everyone would fight over who got it, it was like a treat to all of us! I still do this today, with my kraut every year!

You can always add some beef broth when you’re reheating to serve if it’s to thick. This would add flavor where more water might dilute the flavor. I water bath canned so much last fall that o burnt out my electric stove! Had to finish up the canning on an open fire in the back yard. Garden is slow this year but the cabbage is jamming so thanks so much for this recipe!

I made this soup and WB canned it this weekend and OMG!!! I was doing a happy dance when I opened a jar and tasted it. At last, something with ground beef that doesn’t tasted burned. I had all but given up on canning anything with ground meat because of the awful burnt taste and texture. Thank you so much for sharing this. ❤❤❤

My daughter loves soups to take to work, cabbage and black beans. So I'm going to make this using black beans. I'll let you know how she likes it. Love your channel. My Mom taught me to hot water can before I got my first canned 40 years ago. People thought I was crazy for water bathing for 3 hours then instead of pressure canning for 90 minutes. Thank you for bring this method back to current mind. A lot of beginners in preserving don't have the money for buying a pressure canner plus the canning jars and lids. This method helps them get started sooner. You don't have to have a pressure canned to help stock your pantry.

I add split red lentils to mine to bulk it out... Your soup needs a few greens, I added some leaves from the home grown purple sprouting broccoli ti mine, but any greens that hold their colour is good, it adds to the eye a perception of deliciousness of 'you eat with your eyes first'.

Canning 10 quarts of your Cabbage - Beef Soup today….they are in the canner now. Only change is that I am pressure canning for 90 minutes. I have just pressure canned low acid foods for 50 years and am just to old to c hange but I am sure water bath canning will work fine for you. I really think that this recipe NEEDS the recommended 3 lbs. of ground beef if you are not having any other protein at the meal where this soup is being served. Maybe a grilled cheese using a whole grain bread along with the soup. Or brown some ground beef, cool it…keep it in the freezer, heat some up in your microwave and add about a scant fourth of a cup to each bowl along with a good sized sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.

In some of her other videos comments are made about altitudes not being relevant because of the 3hour cook water bath time. Might could check it out

Hi! I just water bath canned some pot roast (pre cooked) and one of the jars had some siphoning. The water in the canner was greasy. If the jar seals, will it still be good, or should I not risk it and trash it? Love your videos btw. Thanks!!!! 😊🙌

That looks great, I’m going to make that. Also the treasured recipes, is there a year or a code # on it?

I use kosher meat and it is even more expensive. Thank you for suggesting cutting the amount of meat.

I don’t have a problem with you water bath canning this soup, but I’d rather not do it that way myself, I’d rather pressure can. Can you say what you think the difference would be in the end product if i pressure canned it instead of water bathed it?
